I do not drink Coke, but I think I am going to buy a couple of cases for a local food pantry this weekend. Officials in Surry County, North Carolina, voted to remove Coca-Cola machines from all government facilities in response to the beverage company CEO's remarks about Georgia's controversial new voting law. The ban passed during a Board of Commissioners meeting on May 17 with a 3-2 vote as a direct response to Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey's comments calling the voting law "unacceptable" and "a step backwards." Commissioner Ed Harris provided "TODAY" Digital with the copy of a letter he sent Quincey, calling out the company's "corporate political commentary favoring the Democratic party" and announcing the decision to remove Coca-Cola machines from government facilities. "Our Board felt that was the best way to take a stand and express our disappointment in Coca-Cola's actions, which are not representative of most views of our citizens," he wrote. "Our Board hopes that other organizations across the country are taking similar stances against Coca-Cola and sincerely wishes that future marketing efforts and comments emanating from your company are more considerate of all your customers' viewpoints." link

<sigh> Another butt-hurt state denying it's consumers the right to choose. That totally makes sense...

These 2 decisions are slightly different. MLD, a private corporation, decides not to do business with another private entity because f a "reason". Not sure why conservatives have an issue. A governmental agency decides that it will curtail business with a private entity because of politics. That is an issue. If every gas station in the county decided to boycott Coke, there is no issue. The government, not so much.

I have to laugh at the GOP being so concerned about cancel culture, and yet that they have shown (once again) that they're the biggest hypocrites of the bunch.

Huh. I don't think this is about Coke machines (or the beverages in them). Does the Coca Cola Company contribute to any PACs or have Lobbyists? Wouldn't that actually hurt more - for the Politicians to say "no! we won't take your money or listen to and act on your requests for preferential treatment by the government!" TBH - I'm guessing the only one hurt by what was done was the company with the contract to supply, maintain, and fill the Coke machines. Which probably wasn't the Coca Cola Company. Could this be proof that Republicans aren't for the "Little Guy" at all? some trickle down - Coke looses a few pennies and the small/medium business that provides the machine, fixes it, stocks it - loose a customer/account. Either that - or the contract for the supplier was up for renewal and they were gonna go with a different supplier (because they got a better deal). Who knows, perhaps ousting the old "Coke" themed supplier was determined weeks or months ago when the contract came up for renewal.

Please don’t. Having worked the line at a food bank for many years, coca-cola is not what these folks need. Peanut butter and tuna fish are a good place to start.

cancelling is almost a decade old. but now that Trump is a "victim" of it, it is a big deal. until then, it was liberals like Al Franken getting canceled. that was OK. nobody stood up for him.
forgive me for thinking the opportunism is unworthy of sympathy.
