I have left messages for the accountant but haven't gotten a response.( tax time I understand) I share custody with my EX husband. Starting this year since my oldest just turned 18 we take turns claiming the younger child. So he will be getting the payment July through December, since he claimed him prior , but then I will claim him next year.
How in the world does this work? I didn't have to worry with the stimulus checks because at we were both eligible for one and got equal amounts
I had offered to split the extra 1000 over the above normal tax credit since at this point it is not a permanent change to credit.
Any idea on how this will work?
Thanks

My guess is as it's a pre-refund for the 2021 tax year - if you're claiming the kid for 2021 you'll get it all in your refund and your EX will have to pay that money back. Unless there was something in the law that said pre-payments on that credit can't be clawed back like they did for the stimulus payments.
