Foster mom of a Chihuahua with some serious issues posts brutally honest ad hoping to attract the right furever home for him.

Best adoption write-up I've read in a while. This is local to me, so it made the rounds of the local rescue FB pages before it went national.

I never know if these things are doing a good thing (as in they are exaggerating the 'problems' and help to get a dog to an appropriate home) or a bad thing (as in someone thinks it's "cute" and will adopt a dog they have no ability, patience, long term ability/commitment, or resources for.) FWIW: I have a "problem child" cat that is a perfectly good house cat for me and my abilities/patience/resources to give her a good home without her becoming a major stressor/mill stone around my neck in my life. So I'm OK with the "find the right home" for an animal.

Hopefully it helps the dog get to the right home. I think it's best if they are upfront. My aunt adopted a dog one time that the shelter knew to have major anxiety issues. They knew the animal would be alone during the day while adults worked and kids went to school. It should have been disclosed and saved everyone the trouble.

I don't think that she is exaggerating.

The Shelter was upfront about my "problem child" cat. She's exactly as she was described. And not a good cat for someone who want's a 'cuddle bug' or someone with an active household (the problem child cat would most likely be living under a bed -OR- the active household would need to provide her with very tall/up high places to retreat to. ) She's a good cat and we get along.

I have 3 chihuahua mixes, so they are only part asshole. I have a Chi/Basenji mix who HAS to be touching me at all times. He is only really an asshole when I drink red wine or coffee. It turns into a wrestling match because the asshole always tries to stick his tongue in my red wine or coffee. He doesn't do it with other drinks. Then I have Princess Moo Moo. She is a Chi/Jack russell terrier mix. She is a drama queen. No, for real. The ER vet actually diagnosed her as a drama queen. She lives up to that diagnosis daily. In her defense, she was abused as a puppy before we adopted her from the rescue. I did recently find her old adoption papers, and she is listed as special needs. I am not sure what her special needs are other than being a spoiled princess. Finally, we have Toby. He is a Chi/San Antonio Street Special, meaning we aren't sure what he is mixed with. He is seriously an asshole when he walks with Goose on the leash. He wants to fight every dog he sees. The minute he is let off his leash at a dog park, he hides between Goose's legs. He is getting better about not wanting to fight every dog while on the leash after an unleashed dog attacked him. He was fine, but he totally peed and pooped himself (and peed on me when I was lifting him up to get him away from the other dog.) They all definitely have some Chi personality in them, but I think the assholeness is less because of the other mixes in them. Well, except Princess Moo Moo. She will scream bloody murder if someone she doesn't know tries to touch her. I am serious, this dog will make a screaming sound. The last vet we took her too asked if she acts like she is in pain at home when touched. I had to tell her no, she just doesn't want you to touch her.

Now we don't know what we would do without these little demon dogs. Toby is currently on the East Coast with Goose. They are extremely attached to each other. Toby is Goose's ESA and Goose is his ESH (emotional support human). Princess Moo Moo and Mike are extremely attached to me. They will travel with me to the East Coast. We got all 3 from a chihuahua rescue group in San Antonio.

My sister in law had a chihuahua. It regularly would pick fights with my 150 pound Newfie mix and my cat.
The Newfie ended up with a bloody nose but sit sat there docilely while the chihuahua chewed on her nose. She is so lucky my dog was chill.
Then every single the chihuahua came over she’s would corner the cat. The car just wanted to be left alone. And every single time the cat would shred the chihuahuas nose with the murder mittens.
Not a smart dog.

Not a smart dog. Yeah, chihuahuas definitely have "small dog syndrome" that makes them assholes. Mike, my chi/basenji mix doesn't try picking fights. He is a lover, not a fighter. The other two will try to pick a fight with bigger dogs. Thankfully they are both really just scared little assholes and run away before a fight actually starts. They will totally get mouthy though.

I followed some links in some of the linked articles and can't find the same Prancer available for adoption now. There's another chihuahua named Prancer up for adoption but he is younger, calmer, sweeter, and has black fur. Maybe this spectacular piece of writing did the trick and found him a suitable home. I really want to believe that was what happened although it seems much more likely that someone is now sorting through a deluge of unsuitable applications for adoption.

He was unable to even pick up his head. My daughter and I carried him out of the house on a blanket and took him to his vet. The vet had to take him out of the car on a stretcher. After many tests, it came back that he had a tumor on his spinal cord. They said that they could do surgery, but that they weren't sure he would make it through the surgery due to his age. It would have been the 3rd time he had surgery to remove cancer. After a lot of tears and talking with my husband and kids, we made the difficult decision to end his suffering and pain. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do. We still miss him every single day.

Very hard to let go of a good member of the family even when its the right thing.

I saw that this morning. I hope it works out for them. There was a different picture of Prancer in another article today that made him look more approachable. With his ears up and without the scowl, he's quite a handsome fellow.
