People are talking about keeping the entire US on DST. Hawaii and Arizona do not observe time change. What are your thoughts?
I think it's a useless controversy like which way to hang the toilet tissue or dust before vacuuming or dust after.

I hate the time change. There are increased accidents around both time changes every year.

I look forward to DST every spring.
I would not mind being on DST year round.

I don’t equate it to the toilet paper discussion at all as that choice really doesn’t have actual impact. Dusting after vacuuming is silly because then the dust bunnies are on the freshly vacuumed floor. The time change has a huge impact on me for at least the two weeks after each time we make it. It’s a very difficult transition for me. I hate it and desperately want it to stop.

I was just enjoying the sunlight on the drive to work yesterday. Partly due to sun rising earlier, but also because the sun is so rarely out in winter. Then I realized that DST will go back to darker mornings for a while.
I have a child in ARizona and one in Hawaii, neither of which change for DST. I can’t keep up with what the exact time difference from here is.

I hate DST. It takes me several weeks to adjust. This fall, I stopped fighting the clock and decided to go to bed when I was tired instead of letting the clock tell me when it was time for bed. I work from home so I can start my work day when I want to as long as I am at least starting by 7 am which is when business hours start. My ability to adjust to the time change went so much better than it normally does.

I would prefer that as well, on the eastern side of the time zone. winter sunsets at 4pm suck the life out of me. we had a state Rep who had grown up on the western side of the time zone introduce a bill to bump MA into the Atlantic time zone, with maritime Canada. I'd be ok with that, too.

It's not like the toilet paper issue at all. Study after study shows that the switching of time has major impacts on people. Heart attacks go up, car accidents go up, crime goes up as there is less sun. There are real societal and personal consequences to this stupid tradition.

I wish we stayed on the same time all year round. Just pick one. I will like it.

I agree the time changes affect sleep/wake for weeks. I agree to pick just one time.

There are many meta-data analyses gathered from countries all over the world. They have linked health problems and deaths to "losing an hour". Strokes and heart attacks increase the first 10 days. Car crashes increase. Workplace accidents and incidents increase. Sick days as tracked by employers bump up directly following the change.
Time changes literally kill people. We should stop doing them.

Yes Please! I have been wishing for years that Congress would pull their heads out of their asses and just keep DST permanently! Just like the Electoral College it is time to get rid of some of these archaic old rules and regulations and laws. The reasons for changing the clocks back when it was established have long since changed with the changing times and technologies. I change mine on Friday so I am used to it by Monday. I have been doing it that way for years.

I look forward to DST every spring. I would not mind being on DST year round. SAME! The dark at 4PM winters kill me. It means I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. My SAD lamp only helps so much.

I hate the time change. The only upside was every year when it fell back we got an extra hour of drinking if we were out at a bar. Otherwise it's annoying - and I live in FL so it's no where near as drastic as a change in other states.

I look forward to DST every spring. I would not mind being on DST year round. YES! I love daylight saving time. I'm not wild about changing the time, so I'd be fine to stay on DST year round. Would NOT love to stay on standard time year round, thee long light evenings bring me far too much joy. And the early dark nights are tremendously depressing.

It is not unusual for us in March which is our snowiest month. My side of town should only get about a foot or more. It's the West side of town in the foothills that will get slammed with 2-4 feet. Oh and some mountain towns expected to get over 6 feet.

I hate the time change with the passion of 10,000 burning suns. I get to suffer 'jet lag' for a few days and my cats are thrown off their schedule (eating, when I get up in the morning, when I get home, etc).
I wish they would just pick a time and stick with it.
I don't care if it's dark at 9:00am during the winter. I would be leaving for work and coming home in the dark with or without the silly "spring forward/fall back" thing. I don't care if it's daylight til 9pm in the summertime.
I live in a densely populated urban area - it's always "bright as day" outside from the street lights - as in you don't need sunlight to enjoy being outside in the summer evenings.
Most summer evenings (even if it is light out) I'm indoors anyway because it's too hot or too humid out or the mosquitos are overwhelming... Or I'm in my AC cooled car driving somewhere where I will be indoors.
The whole time change thing is like the idea that if it's grey and cloudy out - it's a sad day and you can't do anything you would normally do - because it's not bright and cheery out... (and yet homes in America are being re-decorated in "Cloudy Day Gray" by the 10's of thousands... I digress...)
Just pick a time and stick with it for crying out loud. Not even farm animals care (actually they probably hate the time change too... because it throws off their routines. )
(I am one of those people who isn't woken up by light in the morning... nor do I need darkness to fall asleep (I do need the TV off, though - if it's in my field of vision - the flickering/constant change in volume and what not makes me keep my eyes opened. I cannot not watch it no matter how exhausted/tired I am. )

Would NOT love to stay on standard time year round, thee long light evenings bring me far too much joy. And the early dark nights are tremendously depressing. You wonder if over time, a community would be able to adjust to fit the sun's schedule. So, maybe instead of starting school at 7.30, it starts at 8.30, and bed time moves back an hour. Dinner time now comes closer to 7, even if your whole life you ate at 6. Maybe stores shift their time back, Do hospitals have to use the same shift schedules by the numbers as every other state or could they adjust locally? I hear people having a problem staying on one time vs the other, and their reasons are assuming everyone has to keep the same schedule, instead of just using different numbers as your schedule. Granted, that isn't always your choice - but you could push all the political buttons to start getting everyone on-board. The schools would be a first good target, along with a large employer or two.
