NC Citizens: Solar Power Will Steal Sun Energy From Poor, Poor Plants The sun, a giant fusion engine 93 million miles away from us, seems like a great way to glean near infinite energy down here on Earth basically by using thermal panels to create energy. But if you ask some voters of Woodland, North Carolina, it's quite finite. So finite, in fact, that they urged the town council to reject a proposed solar plant because it would steal sunlight that plants might otherwise use for photosynthesis. www.popularmechanics.com/technology/a18545/north-carolina-solar-plant-steal-from-plants/

I wonder if they have mold growing on their roofs they rejoice that the solar power isn't being wasted or they get rid of it.

Remember when we depended more on local news, so we just thought that all the idiots lived in our area? I miss those days.

When even the local "retired science teacher" is unclear on the concept, it is unlikely that any amount of explanation would be of any use. It might be a good idea just to say, "Well, alrighty, then," close the door, and walk away. That's not just ignorance; that's weapons-grade ignorance.
To be fair, it's not just the US with pockets where the grasp of basic science is tenuous or nonexistent, though our pockets do tend to be quite vocal and proud of what they call their "common sense" (which, sadly, is frequently much too common but never sense in any recognizable form).

We have our own idiots up here, as well. VICTORIA -- A judge has thrown out a Nanaimo man’s lawsuit against the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC), in which the plaintiff sought $32 trillion in damages, an audience with the Queen and an MRI scan of his entire body. Chamberlin argued his relief should include $32 trillion, the “reconstruction” of the RCMP, 500,000 shares in Tesla, the suspension of trade between Canada and China, the release of various classified documents, an MRI of his entire body and the dismantling of Transport Canada. He also sought the “cleaning up of the swamp,” which was not defined more clearly in the court documents. vancouverisland.ctvnews.ca/b-c-supreme-court-throws-out-nanaimo-man-s-scandalous-32-trillion-lawsuit-1.5343159

Had a good laugh yesterday. I was telling my wife about what the teacher said. The first words out of her mouth were, "Oh My God."

Well, you all just know there's a cartoon Super Villain plotting to hold the Earth hostage by blocking out the Sun. The Super Villain will demand millions of dollars to unblock the Sun. the countries that don't pay up will suffer alone in the darkness!
Perhaps, instead of putting a big ol' Wall between the Earth and the Sun, the Super Villain has created a Solar Energy Vacuum cleaner - the Solar Sucker 6000! all they have to do is turn it on and it will suck up the solar rays thus throwing the Earth into darkness! They have cleverly disguised this nefarious device as "solar panels" and convinced hundreds of thousands of households and hundreds of countries to support/install solar panels in the form of roof top units and 'solar farms'... at some point in the future the Super Villain will flip the switch - throwing the Earth into total darkness - they will flip the switch and light AND their Ransome note will be forced onto every TV screen on Earth! Chaos will ensue. Roving bands of "rebels" will attempt to save the day by destroying any and all "solar panels" they find - America will BURN! as they find the quickest way to destroy the houses with panels - is fire!
What Super Hero will save us from this catastrophe!

What Super Hero will save us from this catastrophe! My sister, who has joined the tinfoil hat society, believes that Bill Gates is trying to find a way to block sunlight from hitting the Earth. Her remarks were along the lines of "What gives him the right to make that decision?"
