People must be getting ready to fly again. I have heard that the numbers were starting to creep up, especially as Spring break approaches.
Just for fun, I checked the price of comparable flights to the ones I previously booked for our Florida trip. When I booked in early Feb, I was able to get first class, round trip flights for $600. Today those same tickets were $1,500.
I’m sure things will level off as airlines start to open more flights and bring more planes on-line but I think to lowest flight costs might be over, for now.
Anyone else ready to fly away for some adventure?

We've been to Florida a few times to see DH's sister. June is where the flight prices seem to go up. I guess they are betting on a summer travel season.

It's an interesting game of Chicken right now. Do you want to grab flights now while prices are depressed or wait till EVERYONE wants to fly and pay more? I'm in a holding pattern right now- I redeemed miles a few moths ago for my flights in and out of Eastern Europe in late June. I have trips scheduled for October, 2021 and May, 2022 but I want to make sure the travel companies are solvent first, so I'm waiting. The cruise line I'm taking in October (UnCruise) starts up again in April. They tried in October and found after leaving from Alaska that ONE passenger had tested positive for CIVID at the airport. They went back to port, quarantined everyone, and no one else got sick. They did everything right, IMO.

We just started pricing flights last week to Hawaii for a trip in May. Checked again just now and prices are still about half of what they were pre-Covid and we can get economy plus for less than what we normally pay for economy.

Airlines are starting to cut flights again with no federal money to keep their employees working. So they are cutting workers, which cuts flights, which pushes up costs. Not sure if the new bill has anything for airlines again or not. (I kinda hope not)

I bought tickets for my sister to come out here for the month of June. I paid in DH's points, which are still available, and not money. I thought the points had doubled from last year, but I don't remember the number exactly. There was only one ticket left on her preferred flight here so I do think people are planning on flying this summer.

We have a couple trips planned that I still need to buy flights for. One, we have a decent sized credit with the consolidator as this trip was supposed to go off 11/20. That trip got punted to 11/21.
I need to get tickets for TD’s dive trip, but we have made some changes such that I need to talk to PADI about this. I probably will get these dates set this week, and once I’ll have those start on the flights. That trip is 9/21.
We have a river cruise planned for 5/22, and a world cruise that starts 12/22. For both of these, airline arrangements are on Viking.
TD has been making noises about another dive trip next Jan/Feb. I gave him the book the live aboard company sent us and told him to choose a place.

We took a Viking cruise in Russia a couple of years ago and flights were included. We flew economy from Phx to Detroit, then to Paris before going on the Moscow. All connections were smooth with no problems with flying.
Had a MAJOR problem with my VISA to Russia. People here in Phx got the wrong date on it so we were stuck in Paris for 5 days. Not a good place to be without advanced warning. Not a tourist friendly city.
People at Viking were absolutely wonderful about finding accommodations for us in Paris and getting us on a later cruise.

We would prefer to take business class , or only offer economy? You can get business class flights for an up charge. The price is not much different than the standing fares. They did have an excellent deal for the river cruise we are taking next May. The cruise we just had canceled had us flying Lufthansa and Delta. The flights we got assigned were pretty good, I’d have had no complaint. For our river cruise, I did pay the deviation charge as we are returning from Prague, not Budapest.

I want to go to Hawaii. Grand baby #3 (DDs 2nd) is due there in April. But DD says her whole family will be flying to attend family reunion week in FL in August, so may wait until then to see new grand baby. Maybe will go to Phoenix to see grand baby #2.

For our Hawaii tickets we ended up getting the more comfort seats which include more leg room, earlier boarding and on each flight we are sitting in a row of 2 so there's no one right next to us. Including insurance which will cover us should we not be able to go total cost was the cheapest we've ever paid and this will be about our 10th time going over the last decade.
