That’s it. That’s the question. Oh, no...let us parse the question...
Is anyone physically in Alabama? Is anyone mentally in Alabama? Is anyone emotionally in Alabama? Is anyone living in Alabama? Is anyone currently visiting Alabama? Did anyone live in Alabama?
I should stop procrastinating and start my day.

I think she just moved again though. I thought she moved from Georgia to Alabama. I could be wrong though.

That’s it. That’s the question. First you have to answer the standard questions: What's your age? Do you have 3 months of emergency money saved? Are you maxing out your 401(k)? Do you have a Roth IRA? What's the interest rate on your mortgage, car loans and any other debts? Can you list your monthly income and expenses? Only after answering these questions can we answer yours.

I have married friends who live in Alabama. They have both had both vaccines. They had to drive from Anniston to UAB Birmingham, but didn't care. He is over 65, she is not.
She got hers first because of where she works.
He has all kinds of health problems and she felt bad about getting hers first. He is also fully vaccinated now.
I don't know anything about sign up, etc.

I am. What is the vaccine situation like there? 12% of the population has gotten at least one vaccination. Vaccination is a tiered thing, and we've moved past 75+ and first responders/healthcare workers to adding 65+ and teachers, etc. Getting an actual appointment is somewhat difficult in the Birmingham area even though UAB has organized massive drive-through sites that can give as many as 2000 shots per day. The problem is they don't have that much vaccine. It is now available at some Walmart's, Sam's, and drugstores. People are calling wherever to get appointments and driving a few hours. The small towns outside the Birmingham area are people's best bet. That said, most people I know have managed to get appointments. It just requires perseverance. My second shot is on Friday morning, a few miles from my house.

I am. What is the vaccine situation like there? This is general info. Last evening's local news showed a map of the U.S. where the vaccine rate was above a certain percentage. Most of the U.S. was above the average. The following states were below what the rest of the country was: Texas, Arkansas,Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia and New York. ETA: Update: local news now showing which states have less than 14% of their population with at least the first shot of the vaccine. The states are: Utah, Texas,Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia.

I think she just moved again though. I thought she moved from Georgia to Alabama. I could be wrong though. I live in KY now, just couldn’t get around to changing enamel again, and can’t change my original username without getting a new account. oped, I am guessing your son is moving there. Birmingham has excellent hospitals. If he is going anywhere in the northern half of the state he is not too far from Birmingham. They are behind on vaccinations but I’m sure they will get their act together soon.

Nah I have a friend in private practice there who is trying to convince husband and I to drive down and get them immediately and I’m feeling very not ok with the idea of line jumping. I assume everywhere is lines and people having a hard time getting them... but if it’s that people just aren’t signing up to get available vaccine... heck.
I have appointments for March 23 but honestly no one here is even scheduling more nor have they been for weeks. I just don’t know wtf PA is doing.

We qualify in PA because there are a ton of qualifying conditions that were moved into 1a in pa... which promptly apparently used up our quantity.

I didn't realize that your friend is going to give you the vaccine. You are a teacher so you aren't a line jumper. Is your husband in one of the groups that qualifies in Alabama? If you are both eligible, then you aren't line jumping. If you aren't, then that's a different scenario. It isn't that people aren't signing up. The vaccine went to a lot of small towns while the population is centered in our 3 or 4 major "cities." People in my area can't find it without driving a couple of hours.

About a month ago, a friend who lives here in Memphis like I do told me she and her husband met the requirements for a vaccine shot in Mississippi. The Mississippi state line is like a five minute drive from my home. They told me all I (and they) had to do is give some random home address in Mississippi and the vaccine is administered. I wasn't thrilled about the idea of not waiting for your turn in your own state and driving to another state to lie your way into a shot. But I understand why they did it. No one wants to get sick and possibly die. I received my first shot here in Memphis last week and should receive my second shot by the end of this month.

Agree OPED, PA is a bad example of how to do this...My DH is trying everything and cannot get an appointment. Finally got my 82 year old mom's first dose.

My inlaws are 75, with lots of risk factors. They just got their first vaccine 10 days ago. And last I checked, my state was one of the better ones. If you going to do this, I would go and do it like, today. I use this website to see what's up with Covid. This is the first day that MS and TN are the only southern states (aside from TX) that weren't red, to indicate an increase in cases. While I hope the vaccine is the magic bullet that will make covid obsolete so everyone can go on their god-given right to spring break, etc. unmasked...the cynic in me doesn't believe that will actually be the case.

There was an article in my local paper on Sunday about a couple that drove 13 hours from Michigan to another state hoping to get a vaccine. They had appointments, but they did not get the vaccine (sorry, I tried to find a link and failed). I would not want to see that happen to you. If you are ok with a mini-vacation there, and getting the vaccine is just a bonus - then take the risk. Otherwise, I would just wait my turn in my home state.
DH and I will wait. I expect we will get the vaccine before summer starts. We had Covid-19 and the hardest thing was not being really sick, but being unable to go to work or the store and dealing with the paranoia that my DH was going to die in his sleep.

A lot of people driving there are teachers because they still aren't eligible here until the 8th.

I in in very northern Virginia (at the very top, my backyard touches WV). My parents are just over about 15 minutes over the WV line, and my dad was able to schedule and receive the vaccine in Virginia. Probably helped that the same medical system runs the hospitals and clinics in both counties.
