It's called playing both ends against the middle. And McConnell knows he can get DT to do some of what he wants if he gets elected again...just like the last time...stacking the judges all over the country.

What a complete failure of his oath of office. So, what'll we do the NEXT time a group of crazies storm the Capital? The only positive thought I have in this situation is, both of them are old men...

Sorry, what part of this is shocking?
This is completely in line with what I would expect from the feckless, power hungry, amoral hacks that comprise the GOP.
The sooner people realize the GOP has no bottom, and they will always sink lower to maintain their grip on power, the better off we will all be. This is why Biden and the Democrats trying to work across the aisle and find compromises with them drives me up a wall. These are not people that can be trusted.

That has been the one driving force to Mitch M that I can identify, for his entire tenure. Other than stacking conservative judges he seems to have no aims goals or policy preferences. Even gaining GOP majorities is sought by him with the end goal in mind- more conservative federal judges.

I think Moscow Mitch is banking on Trump not running in 2024, what with his legal troubles, terrible health, and drug additions.

He said he will vote for Trump if Trump is the Republican nominee. I would expect McConnell to vote for whatever Republican secures the nomination.

It would have been interesting if they had gotten their hands on Pence. Would they have put a rope around his neck or just bluster? How would he have reacted? Would he have gone all Nathan Hale on them? Give into their demand he declare Trump President (knowing it wouldn't hold up)?

He said he will vote for Trump if Trump is the Republican nominee. I would expect McConnell to vote for whatever Republican secures the nomination. ^ This. Mitch is a scumbag, but some context is necessary before wild outrage. Based on the entirety of what he said, and the speech he gave after the impeachment vote, it's pretty apparent that he is hoping Trump won't run in '24, won't win the nomination in '24, or is banking on Trump having been taken down legally and/or criminally by '24. I think that last one is his preferred outcome. Note that Mitch is also supporting Merrick Garland’s nomination for AG, and Garland has made it pretty clear he's going to be going after Trump.

He would support a rock if it were the nominee of the party. That doesn't change how he feels about Trump. For McConnell it is all about the POP (Power Over People) party and his own agenda.

I think Moscow Mitch is banking on Trump not running in 2024, what with his legal troubles, terrible health, and drug additions. I agree, but I think he's a wishful idiot to do so. Trump will want to run, and if not him, one of the crazy Trump clan. Trying to outlast Trump is both lazy and stupid.

And booed loudly when requested to wear masks and maintain social distancing. Our governor ate it up. Because all the other states that followed the rules were losers and so envious of Florida's success battling COVID. Please. Massive unemployment due to travel restrictions, the inability of many seniors to get a vaccine via website registration, the inexcusable refusal to vaccinate front-line workers, the insistence on schools reopening with no protections in place for teachers -- yeah, he's loving this. DeSantis rules by confusion, temper tantrum and doling out favors to counties that like him and sing his praises. God help us all if he thinks he has a national political future. I hope if he's stupid enough to run for governor again next year, he loses and gets absolutely buried by the landslide.

shows what you can do? was he watching the same video as the rest of us? DJ-I know this subject irks you (and I believe billisonboard too) to no end. What’s in an Adjective? ‘Democratic Party’ Label on the RiseThe intentional misuse of “Democrat” as an adjective has caught on with Republicans and far-right elements that were energized by the Trump presidency. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Two days before the assault on the U.S. Capitol, Pennsylvania state Sen. Doug Mastriano, a Republican, said supporters of then-President Donald Trump’s claims of election fraud were basically in a “death match with the Democrat ic Party.” A day later, right-wing activist Alan Hostetter, a staunch Trump supporter known for railing against California’s virus-inspired stay-at-home orders, urged rallygoers in Washington to “put the fear of God in the cowards, the traitors, the RINOs, the communists of the Democrat ic Party.” The shared grammatical construction — incorrect use of the noun “Democrat” as an adjective — was far from the most shocking thing about the two men’s statements. But it identified them as members of the same tribe, conservatives seeking to define the opposition through demeaning language. Complete article here: link

Thanks, billisonboard. I am going to use the Strike Through function and strike through the 'IC' in Democratic in my original post. CC: moon/LauraETA: When the offending word was in-between quotation marks autocorrect did not change the word.

After watching Mosco Mitch's answer several times, I noticed he was very careful with his word choice. He answered so trumplicans would think he supports the "former guy", but Mitch didn't say trumps name.
