so - I've been ordering from whole foods for delivery lately, whole foods adds a tip of 7-10 dollars, I think that is good for delivery - or should I add more?
then today - order 3 english cucumbers - but they delivered 5.....rotteny ones. Never would have picked these would just go without, but I hate to complain, given, 2020, 2021 so far etc. oh, and they delivered to wrong house, I had to troop through the snow to get them from neighbors porch. Seems petty to complain though, cuz - yeah - thinking it must be rough. but those cucumbers, really - oh they're kind of rotten, given a few extra?
Obviously if I am getting 3 english cukes, that is suppose to last over several days, these, ugh, likely need to cut away a lot of it today - likely totally trash tomorrow or next day. irks me to pay for this at all.
but...yah....wwyd?

Politely give them a heads up as to what went wrong with the order.
They might make amends. The don't want bad press.
Might also be a food shortage. We had nine plus miserable days of cold, snow and ice which just ended several days ago. Today? Temps hit 69 degrees. So I went food shopping.
The meat section and frozen food meals section were absolutely bare. My guess is no deliveries during the extreme weather.
That bad weather may also be the reason such poor quality cucumbers were delivered to you.

I'd let them know. It may be a supply issue it may be some people need more training. They can't fix things without feedback.
When I've gotten bad produce both companies have been quick to credit my account. I know produce can be a crapshoot but moldy green beans is bad publicity.
Definitely let them know wrong address. May be nothing they can do if they contract with a third party but you can double check they have the correct address.

I have asked for a refund when stuff is broke/rotten/something I would have never picked. The weather conditions could be part of it but if something is just rotten, I would leave it.
All these issues plus the increased costs are why I do my own shopping. I know others have different comfort levels though and are in different stages of virus levels.

I would complain. I’ve been shopping for groceries and at Target online for parking lot pickup since a couple years before the pandemic. I’ve never had an issue like you describe.
Plus, it’s Whole Foods, and they aren’t the most economical place to shop. I’ve shopped there sometimes myself, so I’m not knocking you. But if I’m paying a premium for something I can get elsewhere (or similar) for a lower price, I have higher expectations. I need to feel like I bought a “better” product, had a “nicer” experience or better service, or it was extra convenient...... something. I most definitely would have an issue with a subpar product. Then again, I’d also probably complain if Kroger gave me some produce that was on a piece of its last leg.

I did it, no option to be polite. click here. click there. click this. ok - refund.
bananas were missing, not included in the 3 items they said were out of stock. So - I had to say something I think.
Hopefully, just a training issue and everything goes on as before.
Thanks everyone!! It's hard to make these decisions these days....maybe I'm just getting wishy washy...

Ok. This post is near and dear to my heart as my daughter works as a home shopper at a big retail store. She is paid very little, yelled and even sworn at by customers and bosses, even though she is actually quite conscientious and good at her job.
Please please consider the feelings of the poor shopper who is essentially risking his or her life for your convenience before you make a lot of complaints. One time my daughter was yelled at because the produce she selected was white in some areas that u can’t even see through the packaging. But yea, there was a complaint that went thru corporate and 6 weeks later, they really didn’t even know who chose the produce, but they decided to yell at my darling daughter.
Sorry — she comes home with aching feet. Logs in about 5 miles a day, is timed when she goes outside to give the customers in their Porches and fancy cars their products, is sworn at but has to bite her tongue when a particular item isn’t on the shelf, as if it is somehow her fault. Doesn’t always get tips. Yes this is a pandemic. If you are fortunate enough to get a wage-slave to shop for you, then please tip very well and thank them for risking their life for you. And rethink complaining because it may take corporate 6 weeks to yell at someone who didn’t even make the mistake. Maybe get ur own cucumbers if it’s a problem for you. My daughter comes home in tears, I wish she would quit, but she needs the money.

Wow. Do what you want to do. You were asking about whether you should complain about the cucumbers and if the tip was enough. Complain about it if you want and get a refund. Tip whatever you want, although you asked so I thought you should know to tip generously since it is a pandemic.and most of these food shoppers are paid minimum wage and are worked very hard . I was giving my perspective as the mom of someone who actually works one of these very difficult jobs. And it’s not at Whole Foods, where the employees are probably treated better. .
So do whatever you want. And I wish you good health.

There's no obligation to accept crappy service and just be quiet about it. She's paying a premium price for this service. It is possible to complain nicely and raise the issue. No one said she was going to cuss at the delivery person. If I'm paying for product to be delivered, it should be delivered to my house not just the neighbor's and I have to go find it.
Yes, I assume a lot of people are trying their best. And some aren't. If they delivered to the correct house I'd probably ignore the cucumbers. But since they can't even deliver it correctly....

and this is part of why I ended up cancelling my Misfits subscription. I am super picky about my produce, and for the prepared stuff like fresh pico de gallo I actually dig in the back of the display to get the farthest-out dates. a shopper isn't going to do that for me - proven by the first time I did produce in a Walmart pickup. the pico I ordered arrived with a sell-by date of the next day. um, thanks?
as far as complaining, it's useful feedback for the company to know that the service is not what was ordered and paid for. I'm not sure what sparked reply #7, was a post deleted somewhere? wow.

Anyone who works for Whole Paycheck should expect their customers to be pickier than most. The price point almost dictates it. Though it's not "picky" to expect not rotten produce. I would contact the company. Nobody wants produce that has to be tossed the next day. Even fresh from the garden lasts a few days.

I’ve been getting pick up for a year now I guess. I’ve gotten produce I wouldn’t have picked maybe twice? I just let it go.
I thought I had a missing item from a target order yesterday but even then I was reluctant to call because you are never sure who/if they will hold responsible. Luckily I found it, it had fallen out of the bag.

Count me in the "I would complain" club. Especially given that it was delivered to the wrong address. IMO, a company may not know that there is an issue that needs attention if nobody notifies them that there is an issue. I frequently choose who I do business with based on their customer service. If I do not feel that they care to fix an issue that I point out, than I will choose to spend my money elsewhere.
Also, this is why I do not let others shop for my meats or produce. I will do order pickup for everything else (no deliveries in the boonies), and run in to grab those items myself.

I've been doing pick up only since last March.
There was only one time I called. I received a bag with one item in it. It wasn't what I ordered. I didn't receive an item that would have fit in the same size bag. I called and was very nice. Told the manager I thought the wrong bag was put in my car. This was in the early days of the pandemic. He offered for me to come back and they would run my item to the car. I told him I didn't want to do that because I don't live in town. So he gave me a refund.
It's the only complaint I've had in about a year.

Retailers like Amazon are notorious for timing their employees on everything from stocking, picking, and packing orders. You know that when you sign up for the job. I once worked at a large distribution facility where you could easily log 15-20 miles a day. My waistline sort of misses those days.

I got home delivery a few times when the kids were little. I learned that I am particular about my produce. It made the delivery kinda useless, so i have declined to use the service again.
I have started letting my husband try to pick produce for me. But I gave him about 3 years of training. He still isn't up to my standards about some things. 😝

There is being picky and not expecting things to come covered in mold. I canceled Farmbox Direct after I recieved a package of green beans that was so rotten it had turned brown/grey was slimy and COVERED in mold.
I'm supposed to let that go? Really? When that's happened at the grocery store (looking at you Aldi) they pulled all the bad ones and tossed them out because selling them is bad business.
I get they had a huge uptick in customers and had to hire more people but you couldn't have missed that those green beans were rotten. I am betting the company would kinda like to know that happens because if enough people get produce that nasty they are going to cancel like I did and they lose money.
Could have been a training issue, could have been one employee that doesn't give a crap, could have been a simple mistake. It can't be fixed if nobody knows.
We get complaints at our business. We know which ones are Karens and which ones to address. We take it all seriously because that is good business and we fix the ones that are fixable. We want people to come back. Then there is the saying that one bad customer will tell 10 other people about their bad experience. If we can make amends that is preferable because they are much less likely to bash us to their friends.
I don't understand this idea that I have to accept crappy product/service or I am a Karen. There is a HUGE difference between being a Karen and having a legit complaint. I consider moldy produce and my stuff being delivered two houses down is a legit complaint.

My sister delivers for (I think) Instacart. Maybe you should try ordering through their website. You can get your first two weeks free. Why don't you try ordering from a different store - they have quite a few options in the Milwaukee area - Costco, Sams, Meijer, Pick&Save and a bunch of others.
My sister gets paid both by Instacart and tips. You place the order, then Instacart posts the order for their Delivery people and they choose to accept the orders. DS said last weekend if she did 10 orders she got a $50 bonus - so she did 10 orders. I don't think she is earning Poverty wages B/C she said her 1099 earnings were about equal to her regular job (I am thinking they are about $50,000 each). I had the impression she was getting about $20/hour - but she always goes for the incentives to maximize her earnings.
I will try to track her down later and get answers to your questions about how people normally handle your issues, DS and I are both at work right now, so I don't want to ask her yet.

I tip 10% for delivery. Usually at that rate the shopper texts with me throughout buying of subs and options. Not always, but 80% of the time I'd say.
I have also gotten much more detailed in my product notes. 4 mushroom caps please, not 4 pounds. 1 bunch of celery please (getting 1 stalk always confuses me, espoevially when I also get 4 pounds of mushrooms but its happened a few times). No produce bag needed on produce, etc.

Mostly I do the grocery stores own pick up and they are always very accurate although I don’t do substitutions, just not available if they are out. They aren’t allowed to accept tips 😕

Since I can no longer drive, I am ordering groceries online. Yesterday was my first order, and my only complaint was I received perfectly ripe bananas. I actually prefer them greenish, so this was my fault. I also did not receive my garam masala (wasn’t charged for it), but think I’ll order this online as I need some other spices too.
I never realized how many decisions I made for cooking by seeing what was on sale and what looked nice. Shopping this way for the next 6 weeks is really going to change my thinking.

I work in the produce department of a large retailer. Our in-store curbside pickup starts gathering at 5 AM. The Shipt and Instacart procurers start filling orders at 6 AM when the store opens. We get deliveries seven days a week but we frequently do not have the new stuff set out until 7 or 9 o'clock.
What I am trying to say here is that you may get much better produce (and meat, it comes on the same refrigerated truck) if you take steps to make sure that your order is not being fulfilled early in the morning when our shelves look like crap.

I had to go and look up the policies for the 3 stores I use to make sure it was still, no accepting of tips allowed. I have gotten some questionable produce, but I don't complain. I know my shopper was probably some inexperienced college student, who was trying to fill other orders at the same time. They are saving me from having to enter the store and most of it is right. Sometimes it is wrong in an amusing or confusing way, because I accept substitutions. I take it as a bit of a game, but I am not particular about my groceries.
