Not to us, but to Cyrus Vance, NY DA. nymag.com/intelligencer/2021/02/trump-tax-returns-court-ruling-vance-prosecutor-district-attorney.htmlTrump’s not president anymore, so he isn’t protected from prosecution, and Vance finally got the courts to let him have access to them, so he could continue his tax fraud investigation against Trump. Trump is pissed. If you go to the link in the article to his twitter statement, he says that only third world countries allow leaders to prosecute their opponents - which I find highly, highly ironically amusing, coming from Trump.

Have any of you had the pleasure of reading a statement or a defense from one of those people who defends them self in court (because they couldn't find a lawyer to defend them) and who feels they have unjustly treated by their local government or by their next door neighbor (a barking dog or who doesn't mow the lawn the "right" way)? And they've been in and out of court with their case9s)? For a decade or more (and have never won or gotten an outcome they were satisfied with? They've become old and angry (and are probably suffering from a mental illness) but gosh darn it they will get justice for all the injustices they've suffered since the local government/their next door neighbor/whoever wronged them years ago!! Literally, every single one injustice they've been dealt - which they outline in their statement -- and which have little to nothing to do with why they are actually in court - but somehow all of that is important to their case and it should be obvious to anyone who wasn't out to get them.
I have. The statements all read a lot like trump's statement.
This makes me wonder if there's an Acme "Defend yourself in Court" website that helps people who have a losing case put together a Statement and a Defense.... cause they all have the same format and same themes... it's almost a cliche.

trump's statement: that wasn't The Onion? 😳🤭 I had the same thought. It has become impossible to distinguish his actual statements from satire.
Also, referring to yourself in the third person? Such a red flag (not that we needed any more).
I am so glad he has been banned from twitter so my exposure to his inane ramblings has been greatly reduced.
The fact this idiot got elected to the highest office is the true never ending mark of shame on this country.

At least Trump didn't claim in his statement 'John Barron', 'John Miller', 'Carolin Gallego' and 'David Dennison' agreed with him.

I have had to double check comments made the last 4 years that they weren’t from The Onion. As I told TD, Andy Borowitz and The Onion really didn’t have to work those years, their articles practically wrote themselves!

No, but I should have a law degree from watching Judge Judy. So many stupid people......they all read the same way too. I don't mean to misrepresent myself. In the past, for a college course we discussed various types of legal cases (we were looking for fallacies among other things). At some point after that my city had a disgruntled citizen who had been in and out of court for various somewhat trivial things - always defending himself. The guy finally resorted to violence in an attempt to resolve the long litany of injustices he had suffered at the hands of the local government. It made the news and some of segments of his statements were published in the paper. This was back when it was easier to get info on line and my curioucity was piqued (that college course reading (a rambling rant) and this guys words were strangely similiar... ) and I went down a rabbit hole. Back then it wasn't hard to find similar cases (the guy in my town apparently wasn't alone in trying to get his long litany of "injustices" handled by the local court system. I thought it was weird that this kind of thing happens across America (for trivial stuff - a dog barking, poor parking etiquette by neighbors, a home owner having received too many fines for blight (they have trash piling up on their property and when they are offered help to clean up the trash for free - they reject it they LIKE the trash it's their right to have trash on their property! it's America! they have rights!) As time goes on the litany of 'injustices' grows each time they are in court and lose their case or denied a court time. Unfortunately these things often ended in violence (that's why it made enough news to hit a paper or some searchable thing online people blogged about it for example.). trump's statement has the same look and feel as the cases I read or read about all those years ago. (there's less important stuff available on line - you may have pay for it or it's just not available... )

Trump being investigated for fraud is fascism.
Inciting a riot to overthrow the will of the people is free speech.
Okey dokey.

I do worry about setting a precedence of legal battles for high ranking elected officials after they leave office and are replaced by the opposing party - but, if they can really prove in a court of law he did something illegal, it is better to handle it within the courts than to have never ending Bengahzi investigations in congress.
Anyone think that Trump not testifying during the last impeachment could take the punch out of some of the Congressional hearings in the future? Can someone say "I already testified the last time you investigated this and you have no new information, so, no, I will not attend your hearing." That gives the whole thing less oxygen.

You could argue, without stretching the truth, that the only reason he is in this situation AFTER leaving office is that he has successfully used the AG as his personal lawyer while in office. And the success of arguing that he could not be prosecuted while in Office.

One of the things I’m grateful for today is that I no longer have to concern myself with any of the crap that Donald Trump thinks or says.
I’ll be good if I never, ever, EVER again have reason to believe I need to know what he’s up to for my own sake, and that of this great nation (yes, I still want to believe in us as a nation) I live in. Heck, for the sake of the whole world.
It’s a huge relief to be able to read his whining about the problems he brought on himself and be entertained instead of worrying about how whatever crap he says will affect me and mine, this country and the world.
New York, have at him! Anyone else that has the power to pursue justice for any illegal or treasonous activities that he has engaged in, GO TEAM, GO!
And Mr. Trump........ Boy, bye!

Not only used the AG as his personal lawyer, sicced the DOJ on his wife’s ex-friend because she wouldn’t take the blame for the missing inauguration fund money. Which it was so eye rolling when his whine memo bitched about only third world tyrants prosecuting their opponents. He has zero self awareness.

Or it sends a message of accountability. He hid behind the office and used the DOJ as his personal attack dogs. Now he can't hide and must answer for his actions. Karma seems to be finally waking up. While I would like to see him punished for his actions in office I will take utter financial destruction to the point where he doesn't have a penny left and the rest of the rats finally desert the ship. I think not persecuting him sends a more dangerous message. That you can destroy democracy, use a public office to enrich yourself and your snot nosed brats and as long as you do it before you leave office you can get away with it all.
