He's going on vacation to Cancun in the middle of pandemic while the people he represents are freezing to death. I'm going with he just doesn't care. Stay at home and don't travel advice is only for us non politicians. But he got his vaccine (I'm assuming, I know a lot of senators did) he's good.

I thought Texas was hell I still have friends who live in TX. Not sure how badly they’ve been hit by the outages, but they’re in Austin and San Antonio. My BFF in Katy (Houston suburb) lost power for about 20 hours, but her husband is from Chicago and had them over prepared for it. They did still have a pipe burst yesterday, but no water damage to their house. They stood in line to get into a Lowe's yesterday for 4 hours, once inside, everything they needed was sold out. Their plan for today was to stand in line at a Home Depot.
My snotty cousin inside the loop in Houston never lost power because Downtown Houston never lost power for the most part. She fed her friends, but didn't let anyone stay in her house. Did lots of whining on facebook until her brother told her to stuff it up her ass.
Her sister my crazy cousin (she got ALL the crazy genetics) lost power for 48 hours & had pipes burst in the apartment above hers. She spent the first 24 hours posting selfies & whining. Then realized that her kids were in a worst situation than she was & spent the next 24 hours whining about how they should be with her while posting more selfies. For the record, they are almost never with her, she dumps them on my sweet Aunt J.
And Sweet Aunt J was without power for almost 70 hours. Luckily she had a fireplace & firewood. It did get down to 14 degrees INSIDE her house that first night when the fire went out because they were asleep. She had both of her grandkids with her & they all slept in the same bed to stay warm. Her pipes survived but her well cracked (don't know what that means exactly, but it's the only issue she said came after power came back on). Her son, my cousin who gives a shit, took 2 hours to ride a 4 wheeler to her house to make sure she & the kids were okay. He brought food & firewood & has basically told her that this was the last time she'd go thru it because he's moving her to his house or a trailer on his property, her choice.
My brother in law in Austin went to Florida last week so he has no clue what his apartment is like. He's laying on a beach going "not my problem right now".
Brother in law & family in Louisiana got snow, but no big issues or power losses.
Extended family (great aunts/uncles/2ndcousins) in Huntsville, Lufkin & Nacogdoches all checked in with some power outages, but all had fireplaces & no burst pipes when power came back on. Most of them dealt with rolling power outages unlike Houston & Dallas who just went dark for days.
Extended family in Caldwell, Bryan/College Station/Christman all fine. All had generators. There was some cattle loss & chicken losses.
My brother's in laws in Pasadena (outside of Houston) ended up in a shelter & are still there. no power & lots of water damage from broken pipes. His father in law, mother in law, sis in law, her husband, 2 kids & 3 cats are still in a shelter tonight.

If you're a member of congress from a red state, all you gotta do is back Trump and keep "owning the libs", then you can do whatever the hell you want and your political career will be safe.

It might impact his presidential ambitions, but he could be thinking of those famous words of Henry Clay , "I would rather be warm than President."

That kind of answers a question I have. How do the Republican voters living in Texas see this? Who do they think is to blame? What is their reaction to Cruz going on vacation?

My best guess is they are tying themselves up in knots trying to rationalize the hypocrisy. All politicians flout the rules, for example when Democratic Gov of CA Newsome went to a dinner at The French Laundry when you weren’t supposed to congregate. Or Dem mayor of Austin who went to Cabo when it was strongly recommended no international travel. The optics of that Ted Cruz did was crappy, but this stuff does go both ways. You’d think that they’d learn.

The snowflakes who created 10% green energy in Texas. If they hadn't done that and just accepted oil and coal as their God this wouldn't have happened. Seriously. I just read an article on my local news page about Nebraska's Governor getting on the anti-green energy bandwagon. It's nuts, WTF does what is going on in Texas have to do with you?

A number of pictures of Cruz's Cancun trip and the disaster in Texas.

Or Dem mayor of Austin who went to Cabo when it was strongly recommended no international travel (my understanding it was for a planned in advance wedding- not good optics). The optics of that Ted Cruz did was crappy, but this stuff does go both ways. He made a last minute decision to go on vacation to a foreign country, in a pandemic, while his city/state are in the midst of a climate natural DISASTER- F@CKING @sshole) You’d think that they’d learn. It's not comparing apples to apples. And Cruz was first in line (on tape no less) to call them out. I posted the awesome meme above on FB. I have a lot of repub friends in TX, but haven't checked to see if anyone responded. If they do, I am going to tell them next time they make a political contrib to Cruz to make sure their phone numbers are added to his text list so they get invited to Cancun too.

Fortunately we now have Dinesh D’Souza to make it all ok. Ted leaving Texxass has freed up valuable food, water, and heating resources for his constituents.😳

But in Newsome’s defense, he said “I screwed up, I’m sorry” while Cruz tried to pass it off as needing to escort his family to Cancun. This doesn’t help. You have AOC, a Dem. rep from NY raising f7nds for TX charities while Cruz tries to play. www.yahoo.com/news/aoc-announces-that-shes-raised-2-million-for-texas-relief-efforts-in-under-24-hours-173941755.html

Meanwhile Beto O'Rourke, who was defeated by Cruz, organized as much help for people in need as he could.
You bet your petootie I would make a good compare and contrast video clip of to use for the next few years if I were a Democrat running for office in Texas

That poor dog should be taken away and rehomed! Was anyone checking in on it to make sure it had food and water? Who the fuck just leaves their pet unattended while to travel out of the country I always put my dogs in a pet hotel, but I hope at least a neighbor or someone was coming by to check on this poor dog! Sorry, I feel bad for the people in Texas too, but they at least voted for the shitshow. Dogs can't vote. Also, I like dogs way way better than humans. Gonna go hug my dogs now!
