This summer he could not get enough of bashing CA because of the rolling blackouts due to the heat waves and how we could not even provide the basic needs like electricity for ACs. CA was proof that a liberal state = a failed state.
I feel for all Texans suffering through this horrible deep freeze without power or heat, but I really want to hear from that asshole Cruz and what he has to say for himself now!

Not sure about Cruz but the Texas governor Abbott is blaming AOC and the Green New Deal (which doesn’t exist) for the power outages. Some of their wind turbines froze (because Texas chose not to get the heated blades that they use in Canada and Sweden) but most of the outages are from thermal sources like natural gas and coal - due to Texas not bothering to fund their infrastructure adequately.

Texas keeps talking about wanting to secede.
I’m ok with that.

Cruz is still being disingenuous. A blizzard shutting Texas down is understandable, it isn't NE or the upper Midwest. This is far beyond that. This is a crisis, and people will die. That is what is unforgivable

I don’t like Cruz, he is worst possible ass kisser. However, it’s refreshing to see a politician eat some crow. That almost never happens.

We have wind farms all over NNY where temps of -30 aren’t unusual. I’ve never heard of windmills freezing. I never knew it was even a thing.

Probably because there is some kind of component or system that can be added to the turbines to prevent freezing. It is my understanding (but there is a lot of bad information out there) that TX opted to save money and not add this device/system to the turbines in TX. I guess the rationale was that subzero temps in TX are not the norm.

Everyone wants to save money, but the consequence of this decision is quite stark now, I would think. We run into this in medicine all the time. People disregard our concerns about possible low frequency complications, and they get away with it most times. When they don't, this kind of stuff happens.

But the Republican Party currently has the attitude that cutting spending is ALWAYS good. Doesn't matter what the consequences are. Hence, their tendency (at least in my state) of consistent attempts to cut school funding. Stupid adults? Doesn't matter to them. Sadly, their poor choices in Texas really doesn't surprise me.

Since Texas is controlled by republicans, it would seem that the belief that it is only poorly run democratic states that have these issues is wrong. Kind of how the Republicans in Congress have called COVID relief a blue state bailout, neglecting to mention that a number of red states have similar budgetary issues.

People disregard our concerns about possible low frequency complications, and they get away with it most times. When they don't, this kind of stuff happens. They have windmills in Sweden, too. No freezing. I buy a lot of industrial equipment. They always come with spec sheets that list the required environmental conditions for proper operation because the vendor does not want to be sued when the equipment fails. I have zero doubt the vendor pointed out to Texas that the turbines would not be able to operate in sub freezing temps and whoever was tasked with the purchase thought ‘how often does it get that cold here, really? And I can buy more if the unit cost is less.’ So they have no cause to blame the turbines or AOC or the green new deal. Just themselves.

I am kind of missing the apology for his comments about California last summer. Not good? No kidding but it does not excuse his "assholery" from last summer

I am trying to be honest with myself on what my feelings would be if Southern Arizona prioritized spending on preparing infrastructure against sub-freezing temperatures over other projects. I can't say that I would praise the decision.

Ted Cruz's Cancun trip violates the first rule of politicsIn politics, there are a few unwritten rules that every good politician adheres to. Don't compare any situation to Nazi Germany. Don't get out of step with your party base. And perhaps most importantly, when things go sideways for your constituents, don't go on vacation. EDIT: and it doesn't help that you are headed to a tropical beach resort while they are freezing.

I thought you all were joking when you said he was in Cancun, but I just saw on the news it is apparently true. Holy Cow Batman! Do you think Texas voters will remember this come election time?
