That was some damned powerful audio and video today. I don't know how anybody who watched the impeachment trial could possibly come away believing that trump should be acquitted. Just don't. How can the repub senators sit still for acquittal? How can they utter a single syllable in his defense? Why on earth would they even want to have trump on their side? Why would they think for a second that trump would have ever their backs? How could any American see that and believe that trump is somebody who should be the most powerful man on earth? If this is the direction that the United States is going to go, I'm glad I'm too old to be here to see it down the road. I fear for my kids, my grandkids, for every person in our country. After trump is acquitted, and he will be, my sincere hope is that the DOJ will bring criminal charges, that he will go to trial, be found guilty, and sentenced to prison for a good long while. They are going to hide behind "what the Loser did was very bad, but this impeachment was "unconstitutional" so I really had no choice I have yet to see the part of the Constitution they say that protects Trump from this impeachment. If the action was done while he was in office, it should be possible to be impeached over it. If its done as a citizen, no. He was in office. These cowards just came up with an excuse they can live with that allows them to ignore reality yet again.

Tuberville says he informed Trump of Pence’s evacuation before rioters reached Senate“I said ‘Mr. President, they just took the vice president out, I’ve got to go,'” Tuberville (R-Ala.) told POLITICO on Capitol Hill on Wednesday night, saying he cut the phone call short amid the chaos. ... ... Pence was evacuated from the chamber at about 2:15 p.m.... Donald Trump's reaction to the news? He tweeted: "Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, ..." Trump, what a guy.

All I can say is WOW! On Tuesday the House Managers in an hour and a half presented a coherent, compelling, convincing and easy to understand and IMHO an iron clad case. If this was a normal court case with impartial and unbiased jurors they could have rested the case and gotten a conviction. Then in complete contrast you had the totally incompetent, incoherent blathering from the scumbag's defense team. It once again shows what we have seen for about 5 years which is the idiot can only surround himself with other idiots. Birds of a feather.
Yesterday's presentation was Game, Set and Match!!! It more than proved the case against him. And after seeing the new video footage it is a true miracle that there wasn't more loss of life. They should be fervently thanking the police officers after seeing how truly close they all came to the mob and injury or death. The repugnant ReTrumplicans continue to put their head in the sand and ignore the truth and facts in front of them. I heard someone call them the Grand Ostrich Party How did any of these morons get elected let alone some of them get a law degree? I think Lindsey Graham got his degree out of a Cracker Jack box. Ah yes I keep forgetting that their base are the low intelligence, low information voters.

I really dislike though that they use his words instead of challenging every time they feel they need to be spoken. Saying they came to "Stop the Steal" makes it sound legitimate. I wish they would say something more like 'On Trump's urging they came to steal the election based on Trump's false claims he won.

Guys, you are very seriously at war here. They are going to block the impeachment and try it again. The people that back what Trump does know exactly what is going on and they are good with it. More than good with it, it fulfills their dreams. They just regret that the insurgency wasn't succesful.
As for Trump's potential legal problems, if they manage to convict him will he be able to appeal any of them up to your Supreme Court?

I just read a quote "This second impeachment trial reminds me of of whenever the KKK was on trial. Never mattered how much evidence was presented. Didn't matter if the man admitted the crime. He never got convicted because the judge and jury was clan too."

I’m sure he will drag every legal case against him all the way up as far as he can go. That’s always been his MO. Depends on if the Supremes are willing to hear it- his tax problems are pretty standard tax shittery, doubt the supreme court would waste time with that. I’m hopeful at least some of his minions have been watching the trial. I’ve seen some articles where they are beginning to feel like Trump misled and then abandoned them, so that’s good. Plus, the problem with the Aryans and Proud Boys and Bougaloo boys and the 3% types is that they don’t play well with others. If they could cooperate and organize we would be in big trouble. Hopefully they wear themselves out fighting with each other while the F BI goes back and picks up the really crazy ones.

See this is where I feel the trials will have an unintended consequence, there is a lot of time being spent convincing people he was with them all along.

The individuals who stormed the capital on his behalf? Well, at least the ones currently making their way through the court seem to be arguing that way...

This describes fairly accurately how I think the vote may go. I'd love to be proven wrong, that there actually IS courage in the GOP. But, we haven't seen nearly enough of it:

I hope senators Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee will abstain from voting when it is time for the senate to vote whether Trump is innocent or guilty. Graham, Cruz and Lee met with trump's lawyers today to discuss the laywers' Friday strategy.
Who ever heard of jurors discussing a defendent's case with the defendant's attorneys.

I think it is referencing post 132 (mine shows as post 133) with the meme of the buckets with GOP inside.

Call them what you wish. But like a jury member they will determine innocent or guilty. And their decision counts toward the total.

They aren't protecting Trump. They are protecting their own power. We are seeing the saying "Power corrupts" in live action with the Republican party. It's disgusting. This made me realize maybe Trump was right about not having a country anymore. When they ignore their responsibility as leaders, what kind of country can you have?

I'm not watching anything from now on. They won't do what they should. It will just make me angry and heartbroken. I'm logging off for two days and I'll just check on Sunday to have the results confirmed.

I didn't watch any of it yesterday and slept like a baby last night (after watching murder shows all day). Conclusion? Politics upset me more than murder and mayhem.
I'm not going to watch today, either.

Apparently Nikki Haley has thrown Trump under the bus. Article here: linkThe article also states that Haley criticized Trump's words on 1/6 and hasn't talked to him since. This is pretty remarkable. Granted, she may be playing the politician here, but at least she condemned his actions on 1/6 and has spoken up again before the Senate vote.

Did she have a change of heart? Did DT change that much since she sung his praises? Or, is she taking a calculated risk that the party will move away from Trump and she will be viable again?

She said impeachment was a waste and to leave him alone two weeks ago. She still thinks she can run in 2024.

Maybe she knows that a large part of Trump's base would never vote for a Woman for President. At least, this is what my DH thinks. So she needs to be able to attract independent and R and possibly D votes, and for part of that group - if they see are as too close to Trump, they won't vote for her.

Remember only three days ago when Trump's defense team was merely ridiculously stupid and bad in their presentation? I miss those times.
