Hard to say. Going in I would have said that the target audience was mostly Trump and Trump fans, on the assumption that the GOP senators would never vote to convict anyway. Trump's last legal team bailed because they refused to do what he wanted. Castor did more than a little bit of sucking up to the senators. Whether that was because he thought he needed to or was merely to fill up some time because he had nothing else, who knows? The performance was so bad, though, that I have no idea now. They basically invited other authorities to prosecute Trump in the courts, and did nothing to help him. It was just shockingly bad, and I have no idea what the strategy could even have been. If they managed to shift the narrative from how well the House managers did to how poorly they themselves did, I guess that's a positive for them in a weird sort of way, but hard to think that was the plan they came up with after the other side's opening. I just think they are woefully out of their league.

Contrasting Castor’s shambolic argument with the “very strong presentations” made by the House Democrats, Dershowitz continued to rail against the Trump attorney. “I have no idea what he’s doing. Maybe he'll bring it home, but right now, it does not appear to me to be effective advocacy,” he exclaimed. “He may know the senators better than I do. Maybe they want to be buttered up. Maybe they want to be told what great people they are and how he knows two senators. But it’s not the kind of argument I would have made, I have to tell you that.” www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/newsmax-cuts-away-from-trump-s-impeachment-lawyer-s-defense-just-to-trash-it/ar-BB1dxOkP?ocid=msedgntpI'm sure he knows they are not going to vote to convict him. They do not have the guts. I hope they get to spend the next fours years bending over for that maniac.

The 21 most utterly bizarre lines from Trump impeachment lawyer Bruce Castor "I'll be quite frank with you, we changed what we were going to do on account that we thought that the House manager's presentation was well done." I remember him also saying that they switched the order, that he wasn't going to go first. The broadcast I was watching stayed focused on the person speaking but I can see in my mind's eye Schoen furiously working to rewrite his presentation while Castor stalled.

I like that the Republicans are being reminded over and over and over who they chose to sell their soul too. I feel like the tapes of the riots and Trump's speeches should be played on an endless loop for as long as they are in office. Acknowledge what cowardly pieces of power hungry shit you are.
Maybe that will be their purgatory when they pass on. I can dream.

I know, so why don't they? They are charging other people accused of organizing it. Trump is a co conspirator. On-going investigations including one in Georgia where on the weekend before the Capitol building insurrection Trump called Georgia's secretary of state asking him to change the election results so he could win the state. I didn't watch day 1 but wish I had. CNN said that Lionel Hutz would have done a better job than Trump’s team. 🤣🤣
I have noticed today they are working on separating Trump from the GOP senators as much as they can in this story. They played video of Trump supporters yelling "Destroy the GOP" and reminding them of all the times Trump talked shit about them. Reminded them they were essentially RINOs if they didn't agree with everything Trump said, the death threats against Pence, how Senators were in danger during the riot and death threats against state officials. Basically reminding them over and over that Trump doesn't give a fuck about them, so why be loyal now.

I have so many different feelings about all of this. Mostly though, I'm disgusted and angry that trump won't be convicted because none of his ass-licking supporters see anything wrong with what he did. It's just so discouraging, knowing so many have lost all sense of decency.

Au contraire, moon/Laura. They know darned well there's everything wrong what trump has done, but they're more interested in being able to stay pulled up to the public trough with lifetime pensions, health care, decent paychecks, and all the perks that go along with their titles. They're all scared witless of that sorry little excuse for a man and what he might do to their chances to "age in place" in the offices to which they've been elected to serve their constituents. We remember elected office, right? It's when the person elected to the office serves the people who elected them rather than serving their own interests or the interests of a cult leader. Now..if the media and ordinary Americans would just ignore him and others of his ilk, carry on their lives as though he doesn't exist, my guess is that after the multitude of lawsuits and financial disasters fade away, he will, too. Shunning works.

It was filed in Floyd county (Atlanta) which went heavily for Biden. Will the trial be held there or will Trump be able to get it moved to one of the rural, beet red counties? What would happen if he just refused to show up? I can see him simply ignoring it. Or just raising issues with it so long he dies of natural causes before it ever goes to court.

he could get bankrupted outside of the Senate, tho.
he should be lobbying for his own defeat.

djAdvocate Target audience? It should be the repubs, but they don't give a rat's rear. The impeachment managers are pretty much preaching to the choir. Wonder why Georgia filed their lawsuit in Floyd County? Floyd County is about 50 miles north of Atlanta (Fulton County) where the state capitol is located. I can't find anything about it online.

It was Graham who first called the Georgia SoS and asked him questions about the Georgia election. When Graham denied he had called the Georgia SoS when it was reported he did, the SoS started recording phone calls from notable people including trump so they could not deny they called him. So here we are after trump's call to the SoS was released to the public because trump denied it.

That was some damned powerful audio and video today. I don't know how anybody who watched the impeachment trial could possibly come away believing that trump should be acquitted. Just don't.
How can the repub senators sit still for acquittal? How can they utter a single syllable in his defense?
Why on earth would they even want to have trump on their side?
Why would they think for a second that trump would have ever their backs?
How could any American see that and believe that trump is somebody who should be the most powerful man on earth?
If this is the direction that the United States is going to go, I'm glad I'm too old to be here to see it down the road. I fear for my kids, my grandkids, for every person in our country.
After trump is acquitted, and he will be, my sincere hope is that the DOJ will bring criminal charges, that he will go to trial, be found guilty, and sentenced to prison for a good long while.

They don't have to defend him. "Same way that I was before," Indiana Sen. Mike Braun told Raju, when asked if he was shaken. He added: "When you think the process is flawed in the first place," it's hard to vote to convict." link

May all the injured officers and the families of the deceased sue the shit out of him in civil court.
It worked to wreck OJ Simpson. Didn't get him in criminal court but they nailed him to the wall in civil court.

Republicans are cafeteria constitutionists. Pick the parts they like, ignore the ones Trump shits on because it keeps them in power.
Our founding fathers weren't perfect butnI can't imagine the current behavior of the Republicans is what they had in mind. Checks and balances were put in for a reason.

And he claimed to be the LAW AND ORDER PRESIDENT. Sit there and watch what the capitol police went through that day and not lift a finger to help. How republicans can defend that and support that man is beyond me. They deserve Donald Trump.

They aren't protecting Trump. They are protecting their own power. We are seeing the saying "Power corrupts" in live action with the Republican party. It's disgusting.

The law and order types are generally for law and order that protects their in group and binds the out group, while not protecting the out group nor binding the in group.
