Getting on the lists hasn't been helpful in MO. There are 300k+ on the list with mass clinics doing 2000 shots. And it's not clear that the lists are even being used. <snip> You might want to check for similar fb sites in your area. They are posting phone numbers and appt links. I've helped 15 different people get appts thru this site. It also seems that they are finding a loophole that if you put your name on the list more recently (ie a second time since Jan when they opened), you get picked for the clinics. This is crazy but has been reported multiple times. Yeah, that's what I'm seeing in MO. I'm seeing reports of people getting vaccinated at places where I was supposedly on their list and I was never notified. I'm on CVS' list, for example. Their corporate site shows no availability in MO yet people near me are getting vaccinated at local CVS stores. I registered at a major medical center. No word from them and yet someone on NextDoor said her husband got an appointment by calling them. God willing, I'll be vaccinated by this time tomorrow, 70 miles from home, but I won't believe it till I see the hole in my arm. I just saw an interesting tweet about Missouri: Gotta go through several of them. Anyway, I don't know if these are copying over right, or it's all true. There's a lot more. I don't know if you can follow just by clicking or you have to sign in.

Thanks for those tweets. Some of the mass events are getting closer to home; one is in N. Kansas City and there's one in Independence on March 4. One at John Knox Pavilion (a retirement home building) in my area last week had seniors waiting outside in line in the cold for an hour and then another hour in line once they got in. The one I went to in Sedalia was extremely well-organized with friendly people every step of the way and plenty of socially-distanced seating.
What still annoys me is the number of places were I signed up that promised to inform me of events and then had events but did NOT inform me. If you want people to call or keep checking back, then say so.
A friend in Iowa reports that one major grocery chain (HyVee) requires that you upload your Medicare ID card when registering. I can do that easily but I have a desktop. Doing it if you have only a smartphone and don't know how to do anything on it but use the Internet and make calls is a huge barrier. My late mother would not have been able to do it- she was a smart woman but just couldn't deal with technology.

I have been told that Hy-Vee has the person upload Medicare card or health insurance card when they register. There are 3 Hy-Vees near me but none are offering vaccines.
Walgreens took the card when I got the 1st dose.
My dad had no computer knowledge period. I would have been looking for an appointment for him before I got mine.
Supposed the state is setting up a phone number for people without a computer. They can call and leave a message and will be called back. However, an appointment will not be made at that number.
There is now a list of vaccine providers on the state dashboard, but it doesn't include Walgreens. It told me to go to Hy-Vee.

So I was right, it was indeed too good to be true. There was a misunderstanding and they only had one dose for us, not two. I got vaccinated, and we go back next Sunday for DH's appt.

For the record, I feel pretty much fine after my first AZ shot. A bit blah, but no worse. The doc who vaccinated me (and my nurse friend E) both told me to just take paracetamol for at least 24 hours, and then see. I may stretch that out to 36h just in case.

Got my first dose if the Pfizer vaccine today. I had assumed I was getting the Moderna shot, but I was mistaken. I didn't care; I was just grateful to be getting a vaccine. I got my shot at a Walgreen's quite far away from where I live (but the second shot will be at a Walgreen's close to home). Not complaining at all. There was no crowd, the pharmacy staff was very professional, efficient, and friendly. I got a good parking space near the store, and the store was practically empty. I figured out how to use the map feature on my new iPhone and have Siri read the directions to me on the way. My Apple Watch buzzed to alert me to upcoming turns or lane changes, and since I avoid the Baltimore Beltway at all costs and go everywhere on back roads whenever possible, part of the trip included areas of old-money estates that are fun to look at and sometimes there are horses. A trip to one of the mass vaccination sites would have been much less pleasant, especially since it was raining. A lot.
I really have no idea whether I'm having any kind of reaction. (ETA: Vaccine received 6 hours ago). The pre-vaccine advice from Dr. Fauci (my go-to source of vaccine information) included skipping OTC analgesics beforehand, so I didn't take my usual naproxen yesterday or this morning, so everything hurts now anyway. My arm felt rather sore on the way home, but that's my arthritic shoulder, and I was aware that I had just received a vaccine and was expecting to feel discomfort. Whether it was from the vaccine or the arthritis, I cannot say for sure. I'm very tired, but I never sleep well and didn't get my usual nap before leaving for a 45-minute drive on unfamiliar roads in pouring rain (and the same to get home), so it could very well just be because of that. No fever so far. No joint pain that cannot be attributed to arthritis pain no longer masked by analgesics. No other discomfort. I did read somewhere that older people are not experiencing the kinds of reactions to the vaccines that younger people are having. Apparently the reactions are much more significant with the second dose, so we will see what happens on 29 March when I get the second shot.
Whatever reaction might develop, I will certainly not be complaining or seeking to place blame. I'm more relieved than I can express to be receiving my vaccines and hope everyone else can get theirs very soon.

I'm hoping that Walgreens has their act together. I got the Pfizer vaccine there and my sister and BIL got Moderna.
I hope they have it together for vaccine #2. I do still have bruising at the vaccination site.

Grandma got an appt for tomorrow! I’m so excited and relieved for her! My aunt will be able to take her. This board rocks... azucena shared great contact info for getting a vaccine. I still wonder how people who aren’t connected to others online will get access 😟 I hope they are at least connected to community resources that can help.

However, her husband’s daughter managed to get appointments for both my aunt and her father, which I’m grateful about. I’m not sure how helpful I could have been beating the bush for appointments 3000 miles away from her.

Our county medical director just said that at the rate of doses we've gotten it will be another 90 days before the over 75 group who have registered will get vaccinated. That's unacceptable. Tomorrow the 65 and older are supposed to start. I want to hear what Governor Hogan has to say about how many doses Maryland is getting and how they are being distributed. This was over a month ago and I hope it's improved. In MO, for example, they'd administered 135,000 doses over the past 7 days as of late January. Today the same number for the last 7 days is 211,000. The other thing that occurred to me is that many people have signed up on multiple lists. I sure did! I doubt they have any way to count duplicates so the number registered may well be some multiple of the number of individuals who need vaccination. I didn't answer the OP's original questions- I'm 68, no health issues, got the Moderna vaccine last Saturday. Only side effect so far is a mildly sore arm.

My in-laws have an appointment tomorrow. Appointment made at a local hospital system, made through their Dr's office.
I taked to my Mom this am. She had her first shot about a week ago at a Walgreens in the city she lives in. He next shot is scheduled in 2 weeks. She said she had signed up through the health department and various places, but my niece saw on Facebook that appointments could be scheduled and was trying to schedule my Mom. The system kept crashing before she got an appointment, so she called her Dad (my brother) and he managed to get Mom Scheduled, so I guess the advice to watch the facebook groups for appointments is probably right on. My niece is a nurse, and so is her DH. My brother sells medical equipment. I guess they consider him an essential worker - Mom said the local hospital called him and told him to come in for a vaccine.

Lizard Queen - I'm in StL and following the vaccine news closely. Those tweets are true. Most of the national guard mass vaccine events are in very rural towns. One 2000 dose site has a population of 100 people. The local fb site I'm following had folks on the ground there. As of 2 pm, they had given 500 of the 2000 shots with only a few appts left in the day. They posted to the site that anyone who arrived by 5:30 could get a shot, didn't need to be in eligible tier. StL folks jumped in their cars and drove 2-2.5 hours to get there and ended up clearing the remaining 1500 shots. Meanwhile the governor reported that the remaining shots went sent back into the hospital chain. So wrong on so many levels.

Information provided to Walgreens allows them to let medical provider know, if you have one. It's already in my record at my doctor's office, so they will not be calling me.

I’m so relieved and happy, had some tears of relief when nurse injected I had the same reaction when the medical center called to set up an actual appointment after so many dead ends. And I was fully braced for something to go wrong right up to the point that I was injected- like maybe the person ahead of me got the last dose! Yesterday I got a text from another medical center where I'd signed up, heard nothing and in the meantime found that they were taking appointments if people just called! By that time I was scheduled for Medical Center #1. Now Medical Center #2 is offering to put me on a waiting list for March 4. Too late, guys. My second is already scheduled at Medical Center #1. And the local grocery chain, including a store 5 miles from my house, is vaccinating. They bombard me with e-mails for their Rewards program but did they bother to tell me about vaccinations? Nope. I'm just happy to see ow quickly the vaccination rate (measured by 7-day administered vaccination totals) is increasing in MO.

My county set up a call in line for people over 65 with no computer access. People there are helping them get appointments. In the first week, over 1000 people called for assistance.
I am glad that my county cared enough to spend the money to help these people because the state isn't willing to do so.

97 yo MIL got her second shot of Moderna on Friday and had no side effects until yesterday. Her whole body ached. My wife spent the night with her and she feels fine today.

Got my first Pfizer last Thursday and I was achy during that night. Tylenol helped a lot. Last night I was achy again .... residue? But Tylenol helped again. Haven't been able to make another appt yet but will as soon as possible for both of us.

I’m so relieved that me Jerseyguy and DIL all have had first vaccine and have appointments for second. It was sadly so very difficult snd time consuming to get these appointments. Way too complex and disorganized and I put blame for this mess on NJ government and to some degree Biden’s new administration We have an 80 yr old friend whose family couldn’t get her a vaccine appointment despite having computer literate son daughters and grandkids who spent hours trying She now has Covid We’re praying she has a mild case

France finally decided to open up the AZ vaccines to 65-74 YO. Thank goodness, because apparently 75% of the AZ vaccines are still unused here! Absolutely scandalous!!! The doc who gave me my shot has ensured us that he has DH on his schedule for next Sun. But DH's appt is not showing up on the platform, which really worries me. It doesn't necessarily mean it's not scheduled, it could just mean the doc scheduled it himself rather than on the platform. My nurse friend E told us about a local center giving vaccines in 2 weeks. DH signed up. If all goes well and DH gets his vaccine on Sun, he'll cancel that appt the minute he gets home (6 days early). I just checked, and that center is now scheduling for 27 March. So if DH cancels, his 13 March appt will be gone in seconds. And if it doesn't work out for Sunday (just like it didn't work out last Sunday) we will be very happy he has that other appt. I felt a bit meh on Sunday and Monday. I felt perfectly fine today (the vaccination site is still a bit sore.) What a small price to pay! I cried a bit too, but to be honest it was part happiness/ relief, and part disappointment at DH not getting his vaccine too. I helped a 73YO friend from my theater troupe sign up for her vaccine tonight. (I had correctly guessed that she hadn't realized that she was now eligible.) That felt good.

Ran into a friend yesterday. She is running some of the vaccination clinics in town. She said she would put me on the call list if there is excess doses.
Should I feel guilty jumping the line?

In that case thyme4change , absolutely not IMO. When they get to that point, they either use the doses as they can, or throw them out. Ideally they should have a register of ppl to call, but - they have plenty to deal with these days - not everyone eligible can drop everything at the last minute - not everyone can get themselves to/from the vaccination center at the last minute

There was a NYT article about this recently. Too lazy to look for it, but the gist was: - it's far better for anyone to get it than no one (ie to throw those doses out) - the more people we vaccinate, the better protected society is, even if the person vaccinated is not the current target of the vaccination campaign
It would be wrong to push to get it early ... but if I were offered it, I'd just say THANK YOU!
Maybe you could help a couple of older people around you to get signed up/drive them to get their vaccines/bring them a meal afterwards? (ie "pay it forward")

Oregon opened up vaccine for everyone over 65 on Monday. DH and I have appointments on Thursday. Getting a slot was easy if you were computer knowledgeable and read all the information. The county is working with the major hospital system and using the State Fairgrounds as a site. Everything is very organized. The website listed when new appointments would be released.
Then it was a lot like buying concert tickets. We could go thru our regular on line charts since we are in the health care network. Then it was a matter of logging in and promptly at noon looking for appointments and signing up for them as quickly as possible. I was really pleased that we were able to get appointments at the same time.
I think 3 days of appointments were filled in just over an hour. Right now I do not know which vaccine I am getting.

The universe heard my bitching and yelling! Desantis quietly opened up high risk people to get vaccinated at pharmacies (but not state/county sites) on Friday and on Monday after waking up 2 hours earlier than I normally do and practically falling asleep as I waited almost an hour to get in I have my appointment that's just over 13 hours away! I'm very happy. I picked up my note from the doctor's office in case I need it to get my shot. It's so early with this that there's not a whole lot of guidance.
If there's anyone in Florida that is or knows someone high risk and under 65 and wants to know how it goes tomorrow - quote or tag me. I'll update eventually but if I get a notification I'll remember to do it sooner and add more info.
Not sure which version I'm getting as they had both Moderna and Pfizer info sheets on their website. I also possibly had covid a year ago (tested negative twice for the flu but was sick as hell - almost 103 fever with tylenol in my system and I can't remember about taste as 1) it wasn't listed as a symptom the and 2) I barely ate the first several days and was just shoving stuff in my mouth while taking zinc lozenges which screws shit up anyways) so I'm a little worried about having bad side effects. Luckily the pharmacy is at a grocery store so I plan to buy some frozen meals on my way out lol

Stop the politics and blaming the Dems. They walked into a mess and will have more than 100 million people vaccinated in 100 days, and now enough vaccines for every adult by June. That is pretty kick ass!
