I am not surprised by this article, though saddened. That being said, the man's and company's issues do not knock the Baby Steps principles. For me, those still work.

Hmmm, I wonder if this of thing is why the religious right wants such conservative/religious judges on the Court.
Maybe it's to take away workers rights and protections.
I have a whole new respect for my employer.

I'm pretty sure if an employer hiring process or hand book about employer policies had anything about premarital sex (or sex) at all... I'd be having some possibly awkward conversations as part of the hiring processing.
such as a definition of "premarital sex" was heavy petting ok? oral/anal sex ok? Was it ok to self pleasure? Were there restrictions on the type of "toys" one could use? Could they be really specific about it? Maybe provide diagrams or pictures? I'm a visual learner.
Would I need to bring in my toys and other sexual paraphernalia for inspection to be sure they were ok? How does that work? Oh, wait, I can pull up pictures on my cell phone and you can ok them here and now! I might even ask the interviewer/person in charge about their sex lives. After all -- learning by example.
Yeah.
(yeah, once in a conversation at work with the men folk - I may have accidentally said something about how at the next meeting I'd be sure to bring my penis (the lifelike rubber one) so I'd have some equal footing in the meeting.)

FWIW: I usually recommend Ramsey's baby steps with the caveat that they are basic common sense ways to get a financial footing. And that they are all in one place and easy to understand. I also usually add that one eventually out grows Ramsey's advice. Kind of like math (or learning to play a sport or instrument) you start with the basics and move thru teachers and lessons as you build knowledge/skills. You don't end with the teacher you first started with and while you do still practice/use some of the skills you learned at first - you acquire a whole slew of new ones that you use more often.

He does get it right that despite what YM says finances are not purely logical.
His baby steps work on the psychological side of finances. He understands how short term rewards (pay off little debt) fmotivatws you into eventually creating life long habits
He's a brilliant showman just like a certain someone who just left office.
It's only when you scratch under the surface you see the hidden ugly. Just like any other cult.

I'm kind of "whatever" on the whole thing. It's his company and people can work there or not. He lays down all the expectations when he hires them, so it shouldn't be a big shock.

It was clear until that crap with Chris Hogan and his ex-wife. Plus the anti-masking crap, and being fired over a spouse's mild comment on facebook. That's over the line, and nothing someone could expect going into the job.

It doesn't take a lot of listening to his show to get that he's pretty extreme and it's "my way or the highway" with no gray areas at all.

I would expect people who claim to be Christian to care about the health of others enough to encourage mask usage during a pandemic that could kill them. And also, if he fires people for being unfaithful in their marriages, I would expect him to be consistent and fire Chris Hogan for it. I don't listen to his show, though.

If you got that far and kept going there is something you wanted just like any other cult. Increasingly outrageous demands are part of the deal.

Evangelical Christians are pretty far removed from what the rest of us consider to be Christianity.

I agree but if you got to the point these people in the article did you had to have been at least half way down that path. Being shocked at your termination is a bit late. Anyone who doesn't would have walked in the interview.

It's not always easy to get a decent paying job, and most of us have to put up with at least a little bullshit, if not a lot, from employers.

Surprisingly, I survived with my faith in people still intact and am not ANTI-Christian as a result, even though I don't identify as one myself anymore.

It's actually really hard to get a job with Ramsey Solutions (as evidenced by even having spousal interviews). I read somewhere the number of applications that they got for each position and it was pretty insane. I don't think most that are working there are there because it was their only option to put food on the table.

It's off-topic, but there was remarkably little said about pay in the article and some of the things that were said seemed to be hints that the pay either wasn't great or that talking about it was verboten.

What I gleaned from it was that it was a work-life balance thing. I believe someone mentioned the term "decent job" as well.

www.comparably.com/companies/359132/salariesThat looks quite high for a LCOLA, and would explain the large number of applicants.

That looks quite high for a LCOLA, and would explain the large number of applicants. They wrote that the company has a good work-life balance, which is why it is lucrative. Not sure I’d call Nashville a LCOL city, it’s more middle of the road.

I don't know what I was looking at on there, but it said customer support specialist $58k, and I was like damn, they might make $20/hr here, tops. Maybe I was looking at the wrong thing, because I don't see it looking back.
(I think the lower level pay is more telling as far as demand is concerned.)

Baby steps might be okay for paying off consumer debt, but when you get to paying off your house before investing, I start scratching my head. I believe that is a real disservice to his followers, especially with interest rates equal to inflation and stock market returns so high. I don't even think you categorically need to pay off your car before investing.
He sounds like a real dick and it is no shock that a woman would be fired for sex outside marriage, but a man would be retained. Utter bullshit.

I've listened to parts of Dave Ramsey's shows since he's moved channels on SiriusXM. He starts out OK with babysteps advice, but sometimes is too simplistic and definitely not when you get further along. I hear him give advice to some people, and its ok; but then someone else calls in and I get too irritated at his stupid advice so I need to change the channel.

I've always felt that Ramsey's target audience is the most financially stupid 10% of the population. Anyone outside that cohort can quickly pass his advice by, and DR is terrible with investing advice. Even if I were ever to have been in debt, if someone gave me that "baby steps" BS I may have punched him for disrespecting me so much that they would give me suboptimal advice thinking that I wasn't capable of understanding the truth. Not surprised at all when a cult leader becomes a terrible person.
