The house expenses so far have been for yard work. 270 spent to trim and open the canopy of an oak tree in my front yard, 700 spent on installing a drain and new bermuda sod that does better in the shade under the tree. The drain has been lovely since we have had a lot of rain and normally have a little swamp in the side yard where there is a little dip, but now the drain opens up and when it gets full and we have no more standing water. And I just spent 220 having some sort of sand and soil mixture spread over the yard to help level things out some. My next upcoming expenses will include a paint sprayer so I can redo the deck stain/sealant. This will be my third summer in the house so it is overdue. I'll probably have to replace a few boards on the deck too. I also need to get an arborist out to look at the leyland cypress trees in my back yard. I lost one during the tropical storm, and I think there is some disease. I hope to save them. I just need to figure out what I can do to fill the hole left by the one that came down. Hi all, I posted this in the "what are you doing right now" thread. No Easter cooking for me. I'm heading to the hospital to have Easter dinner with the kids (parents of my preemie grandson who is still in the NICU). One of these days, I will get to meet the little guy face to face and give him some grandma cuddles. Looking forward to that day. Happy Easter, everyone! So I expected to come home after the dinner and do the Savers smilies, but the kids surprised me! I am approved as an "other support person" who is allowed to visit, hold, and care for the baby! Needless to say, I spent the rest of the day into the evening doing exactly that. Smilies will be done as soon as I can get to them.

We finally sold the wonky studio on Friday!!! (At a loss, unfortunately.) We paid off that mortgage, plus part of the (ongoing) reno of our other rental. The reno is more expensive than planned, and it's delayed ... what a surprise! I'm splitting the rest 3 ways: house fund (the outside of our house really needs repainting), DH's savings, my savings. Some of mine will get spent since I earn little in summer. Also we plan to rent a vacation house with the kids for a week this summer. PS It took me a while to find seriousthistime 's last update for me. Sorry, this is probably not in the right format, but it's been so long since I actually posted any numbers! I'd be very happy to repost my update in the proper format. debthaven 7,551€ goal 10,000€ 75.5% (Dec 2020) Update: 16,100€ goal 15,000€ (13 April 2021)ETA: I'm SO excited!!!

Thank you Rukh O'Rorke ! It only took 14 months to close ... a record, I'm sure! The buyer (a RE professional at the agency we listed it with) got an amazing deal! But although he didn't pay us for it, he also spent a year's worth of blood/sweat/tears + money OOP, and did VAST amounts of paperwork to get the sale to close. If a RE professional hadn't purchased it, we never would have been able to sell it. Win-win.

Good news from our credit union! They have FINALLY agreed to convert the 5-year "consumer loan" we took out for the rental reno (because our banker was out sick for over a month just as the reno was starting) into a 7-year "reno loan". It will cost slightly more overall but the monthly payments will be lower, which is what we want. And it means no savings will be harmed. What a fabulous milestone azucena !!! And congrats on the cleaner, I hope they work out! Having a cleaner is indeed life-changing. The rule here when my kids were growing up was that the cleaner would only clean their rooms if they were neat. She would clean, but NOT pick up after them. My kids LOVED having the cleaner do their rooms, so they ALL respected the rule.

Hi Savers, it's the end of the month. Thank you for your patience. I haven't done the smilies for a few months. I can do a big update early next week. Can you please get your updates posted by Sunday? Grandbaby is improving but still in NICU. I go in to give him grandma cuddles a few times a week. He's very sweet, just absolutely adorable. Looks so much like my son, which brings back a lot of memories.

I'm meeting with a housecleaner on Friday. Both of these items have been on my adulting to do list forever! Azucena 4/19/2021 $19,002 out of $30,000 (63%)Another two weeks have past, another pay day update. About half of this one is tax refunds which may have part of our reduced stimulus, I've lost track as I wasn't expecting a refund at all. DH's unpaid leave pushed us down a bracket, so now I'm working the numbers to figure out if we can recreate that again in 2021 by increasing his 401k. Continuing to pull together numbers for the financial planner. Haven't heard back from the housekeeper Have an appt on Fri to get a bid for dual hvac or something to regulate our basement temperature. Will divert future savings to cover it. Will also move some of our savings into two $6k Roth deposits before May deadline. Last year we could only put in 1500 in DH's name. Again his unemployment benefited us. Talked a friend at work about deferred compensation as another way to lower our bracket. More questions for fin planner and accountant. $4,321 deposit Azucena 4/19/2021 $23,323 out of $30,000 (78%)

I had my second dose! So glad to have the most protection I can have against this virus. I find out at the end of this month if my promotion was approved departmental and college level committees. There should be a decent raise (for academia anyway) with my promotion. My savings continues to go well. I expect to meet my 403b goal with the next paycheck.

that's awesome! hope it comes through for you! I've always been curious about how people have both 403 and 457 and can do two pots of 19500. is it because you don't pay into SS or something?

Remember refunds are issued by paper checks so who knows when you will receive it. I will believe it when it is in my mailbox. Just an FYI so you don't think it will come as fast as direct deposit.

Rukh O'Rourke -- my understanding of the 403/457b is the availability of one or both in my case are based on what the employer works out to offer their employees for retirement savings options. The US government sets the contribution limits. 457b plans are offered by state and local governments and some non-profits. This is not detracting from the contributions to my SS by my employer. For the 403b supplemental retirement, I have to wait until 59.5 before I can withdraw without penalty. For the 457b, once I separate my employment, I can withdraw the money without penalty.

We used my extra paycheck and the stimulus to get C's 2021 ROTH fully funded. IRS refund came in, and most of that went into savings. My goal is going to be $500 into savings each month outside of that, at least for now. We did get a HELOC in order to do some big outdoor projects. We've got $19k in liquid savings, though $10k of that is earmarked for Pop Tart's launch fund. She is only a junior this year, but she turns 18 in August, so I need to check in with the credit union about when I lose joint access to her account and make sure the money is all there before then. (For now, it's been sitting in my high yield savings, both for better interest and so I'm responsible for the taxes.)

Why would you lose access if it's a joint account? I opened a joint checking account with my son when he was 12 or 13 and still have access to it now that he's in college. My stepdad and I still share a joint account that he opened when I was 17! (I'm 52 now). He gets a $105/month payment from the Army for getting shot in Vietnam and splits it between his 3 kids accounts every month.
