I just showed this to TD. His response....what happens if 2021 is just the second inning? How did you reply? I ask because I've been wondering, "What if the next few years are so dark they make 2020 look like the good old days?"

I just showed this to TD. His response....what happens if 2021 is just the second inning? I'm starting 2021 in a shut down so I'm thinking it's very possible. And there is already a new strain of Covid, we'll see if the vaccine works on it. But according to our flu vaccine experience they will probably say we need a new Covid vaccine every year

But according to our flu vaccine experience they will probably say we need a new Covid vaccine every year I wish people would quit saying this. The only thing they can say is that they do not know. This is not an influenza virus. All viruses mutate, but you do not need a yearly polio, MMR, or chicken pox vaccine. The vaccine is to the spike protein, which is how the virus gets into the cell. There has been a very small change there, but considering that if too many mutations are done to the spike protein, it will not allow the virus to enter the cells as easily.....which is an evolution disadvantage. As the new mutation is a 2 amino acid change out of the 1190 aa that comprise the spike protein, it is very likely there is no problem for the vaccine.

Do the traditional covid vaccines that aren't yet approved go for the spike protein too or is that just the mrna ones?

Do the traditional covid vaccines that aren't yet approved go for the spike protein too or is that just the mrna ones? The AstraZenica vaccine has a different delivery system, but the genetic material is also against the spike protein. This is the protein that they want to block, as it is the way that the virus gets into the cell. If you block this protein, it renders the virus ineffective. I don't know about the rest of the vaccines out there. Natural immunity (acquired via infection) will have a response to the spike protein, plus all of the other proteins on the viral coat. Speculating, this *could* make natural immunity less effective in preventing reinfection as most of the mutations seen are in other proteins on the virus.
