Last I heard there is still one Blockbuster in the US. And there are still a few, very few, Sears & Kmarts left too. So they may be missing from your area, but not all areas...YET!
Woolworth's Kresge's Lerner's Osco Drugs. Carson/Pierre/Scott Montgomery Ward Kinney's Shoes W.T. Grant Zayre Robert Hall Clothes Linen's & Thlings...loved that store in Ca....near the church with the really tall steeple! Casual Corner Big 'B' Drugs Rexall Eagle Foods...worked in one for awhile in Springfield, Ill....1967-68! There was a BIG dept store in Ca. too in the mid 60's that I can't remember the name...seems like it started with an 'M'..?

Woolworth, Gibsons, Montgomery Ward, Payless shoes, Kmart. Payless is coming back! I got an email from them the other day. I had almost forgotten they existed.

Woolworth's was the one I thought of. I thought they were all gone and then I went to college and saw one. It was crap.
The name lives on. It is a grocery store in Australia. We bought a grocery bag from there to use here at home. Weird, cheap souvenir. 😃

Miliken's Jacobson's Hudson's Petite Sophisticate The Picnic Basket The Cherry Bucket I had credit cards for the first four. The last two changed names thirty or forty years ago but are still called by those names when giving directions.

In my neck of the woods, Younkers. It was a department store that had the most beautiful decor for various holidays and had epic window decorations.
The boxes they gave at Christmas time were gorgeous.

Robinsons May - I hated it when Macy's acquired them. They had such good stuff and cost way less than Macys.

I remember Petite Sophisticate I used to shop there.
Gimbels Boston Store - purchased by Carson Pierre Scott and now OOB. Charlotte Russe? My DD used to work there, they went out of business, closed all their stores and then re-opened a few. I think they are gone now. Treasure Island Stein Optical Goldman's Toys R Us Kids R us

We bought a grocery bag from there to use here at home. Weird, cheap souvenir. 😃 I grew up in California and had always been accustomed to Woolworth's as a "dime store" or variety store with things like sewing notions, stationery, paper plates, cheap costume jewelry and accessories like scarves and hair ornaments, small tools, inexpensive toys, candy, stuff like that. It was the place you went when you needed some basic household thing or odd item. When I was stationed in Berlin, I was surprised to find that the Woolworth's there was a large department store with much of the same sort of things (of the sorts and by manufacturers Europeans liked) but also with many other things such as some decent mid-range household items like glassware and dishes as well as a large clothing section, furniture, and I think, appliances. It was huge, 3 stories. Later I learned that the Woolworth's stores on the East Coast were also in department-store format and had more than the West Coast Woolworth's offered.
