I like sloppy joes personally. It is just a different way to eat hamburger meat. It is much better than, say, hamburger helper or anything like that. You don't want to eat them often, but would you say that spaghetti sauce is unappealing? Same idea - just different sauce and on bread instead of pasta. When I make them, one bun = 2 servings. Open-face, in other words. It cuts down on the bread part. My daughter was craving sloppy joe's before Thanksgiving when she came home from college. So we had them. They were good. Just not what I want to eat on Christmas. But the offer to bring food was nice and I thanked my mom.

Or bbq or spaghetti. I have settled on a pot roast. I'd cook an oven roast, but I am too lazy to do that much work for me, myself, and I.

Christmas eve appetizers and shrimp, Christmas day lasagna. Only DH and me and we will deliver some to my Mother. I feel so bad for her, lonely after Dad died this Fall, in addition to minimal contact with family because of her age and Covid. Come on vaccines.

Pluggingaway - is the weather nice this time of year where you live? If it is nice and on nice on Christmas Day, you could sit outdoors (spacing rules followed) for a spell visiting your mom?

I can't decide if I want to haul myself around anywhere to pick up something after work on Thursday (half day) or just eat what I have which is mainly waffles and pasta. I am so sick of pasta.

I am so sorry. The first Christmas is really, really hard. The second Christmas is only marginally better.

Im so happy my mother lives with us after reading some of your stories. It's hard sometimes but she's here with 5 other people around her for christmas and everyday. I can't begin to imagine her life if she was alone.
We're having chinese for Christmas eve dinner. It's her favorite.

Yes Tennesseer, we will go into her home, masked, for a short visit since it is way too cold to be outside. We have worked with her all year and she has learned how to use her smart phone. She is 82 and now sends pics, texts and emojis, it has been a game changer for her!

Added by DGD for dessert on Christmas Day: Kahlua cheesecake. And I thought I was going to escape making cheesecake this year.
Added by DD for Christmas morning breakfast: monkey bread. Fine. It's easy to do (thank whoever invented Rhodes rolls).
After last evening's trip to WM to forage for food, I swore I wouldn't leave the house again before next Sunday so I just started a list of things for DD to get when she goes out...because she will.

I've decided to make a black forest cake for Christmas. Kind of excited. Hopefully I don't mess it up. The ingredients were more than the $15 cake from the bakery.

Christmas Eve dinner will be ham, coleslaw, crab cakes, green beans, asparagus, plenty of mushrooms, perogies, and home made bread.

Now DH says he wants KFC for Christmas dinner! I'd go for that. I don't like fast food but, no cooking or shopping? Just a drive through? Id be on that in a second this year!

Yes, I can ‘see’ them sitting at the table. We usually include them in a toast, a little teary but with love Before the chaos of the happy family - sadly not this year

Very nice article. It reminded me a bit of the 1996 movie 'Big Night' with Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub. Takes place in an Italian restaurant. Good movie if you can find it.

My sister asked if we could all meet the day after Christmas. Her kids and grandkids will be in town. My hubs said no to my sister. Later I suggested maybe we go to the park, and he said maybe to me. I did not contact my sister. Now we just got a group text that my niece's husband is sick with Covid. So, they aren't coming, and we are back to 'no'.

My Christmas Eve and Day menu is Mexican. I just ordered a shit-ton of food that should get me through a few hours.🤐 Pick up in about 20 minutes. That will go well with cherry pie, chocolate caramel ice cream, triple chocolate cupcakes and lemon cupcakes. Can't forget the 3 bottles of non-alcoholic bubbly.🐷

Change of plans for me. Oyster Stew and a small steak tonight. My sister sent a nice package from Omaha Steaks which included lobster skewers so that is my new menu for tomorrow. Never have cooked lobster before (middle of nowhere here) so that will be fun.

We always get Chinese food for Christmas Eve. Since it's just the two of us and I have lots of time I decided to make it myself. Shrimp fried rice, shrimp egg foo young, honey garlic ribs and egg rolls. We have Bread pudding for dessert. I'm really enjoying the prep and looking forward to eatting.

Instead of baked cod, I'm having cold shrimp with cocktail sauce and spaghetti with white clam sauce. The tomato in the cocktail sauce will be the dinner's vegetable.

change of plans here, too. was planning on Chinese or sushi takeout. ended up with a can of soup, which is entirely fine. tomorrow, though. need to figure out if my preferred spot is actually open. it is in an open mall, so idk if they have to close bc of mall guidelines. if they are open, I'll have sushi and some rice noodles, with leftovers over the weekend.

If you want steak or pork fajitas, come on up. I ordered both then shoved them in the fridge. I ate 3 tacos and churros. Just ate a lemon cupcake a little bit ago.
