did us in. Through the summer Canada got down to about 5 Covid deaths a day. We got through reopening schools in September without much increase. Then we had Thanksgiving and Halloween in October. We are up over 50 deaths a day now. Remember our population is 1/10th of yours. Up until September my area had about 20 cases and 2 deaths. We currently have 66 cases in a population under 200,000. The first cases diagnosed in October were travel related. We make a fuss about our borders being closed but they never have been really. "Essential" travel has always been permitted. So I blame you guys!!!!🤬🤬🤬

Don't look at me ... we did not participate in Halloween. And our plans for Thanksgiving are to have a local catering company deliver us food (Turkey Wellington and Honey/Harissa Sweet Potatoes) for the two of us.

Sigh. Sure, go ahead and blame the USA. It's not like Canadians have free will or anything.

DN1 and his wife and son were able to cross the border into Canada to start new jobs that are considered essential.
They quarantined for 14 days. The moving van with their household goods was quarantined at the border for 14 days. They did not contributed to the problems in Canada.
They were thrilled to get away from the US where they mostly had not left their house from March until July.
They drove 18 hours straight through because they did not want to risk a hotel.

I've heard the lumber shortage blamed on Canada. Supposedly a bunch of our building lumber comes from across the border. The drivers could come across as essential but would have to quarantine for 14 days when they return. Hard to find drivers who are interested.

Halloween? Do you think it was parties or just regular trick-or-treating?
I just put mini-candy bars in pairs (6 pairs at a time) on my Welcome mat, left the porch light on and replenished when necessary. It worked very well and no one was at risk.

In my area one party of university students produced at least 23 cases. That's the people actually at the party. This week we should start seeing the numbers for who they passed it on to.

Dayum. I wonder how much of this second wave is school-related gatherings (including athletics). I know things really got worse in our area in October and they haven't let up.
Unfortunately, parties and other large gatherings are probably the hardest to restrict unless neighbors call the police- and will the police do anything? In my town they joke that the only way you can get a cop to show up is to tell 911 that somebody has a gun. (No criticism towards the police- our department is understaffed and they have to "triage".)

I think some of it is planned gatherings and more politicians recently have been caught doing what they tell others not to do. IMO they deserve all the flack. Just recently Gavin Newsome was snapped going to a swanky restaurant and I still remember Nancy Pelosi's unforced error regarding the haircut. Stupid. Sure you want to do what you want to do, buy TV hosts are sacrificing their appearance and many of us are avoiding gatherings. I would love to go where he went, but the responsible thing might have been to have a visible 10 minute meet & greet outside the restaurant with whomever and a very visible departure. NO sneaky return for good food and political suck up opportunities.
