I bought a small smart tv for my bedroom this summer. I really should figure how to stream more than Netflix on it. Would I need a roku? You shouldn't. We use a fire stick on our only non-smart TV, but nothing extra for the others.

I have two smart tv's. One is a Roku and the other a Fire. I have no idea of how to stream on either tv.

Most smart TVs have the common apps which will let your stream a lot of different things. Is there a main menu or settings or something where you can add something?

I used to spend a TON for Directv for DH. $140 a month after a $50 a month discount. I have had Amazon Prime for years so I don't consider that when figuring my streaming cost. I have it for shipping, music, and Kindle. I do watch it sometimes, though. Some free station on there let me watch Mad Men.
I just had the house reroofed. They removed the satellite dish. The project manager said almost everyone is getting rid of them.

We currently have Hulu and Disney+ and borrow someone’s Amazon Prime. We also borrow someone’s login for some of the sports content.Total cost 1.99 plus tax We take breaks from Netflix and pick it up after it accumulates enough new interesting content to binge - like 2 months on and 4 months off.
Our deals are expiring this month so we’re going to switch to the Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ bundle for 12.99 plus tax.
Lately we found some free apps - PlutoTV and Peacock that have tons of content.

Apparently we get Peacock free with Comcast. We wanted to see the end to a Law & Order episode.
For XM I called and spoke to a person. I had to renew both cars this summer. Both times there was no messing around and they went right to offering me the deal I had last year. I got all access for both cars for $99 before tax and fees. I think it was $120 after tax.

Amazon Prime (just a lucky add on as I use it primarily for its free shipping benefits) Hulu HBO Max Apple TV (free for a year with a new I Phone purchase to replace an ancient one)
I had Netflix but I let it lapse and with the new rates I'm not sure there is enough on there to restart it. When I look at the list it seems like a lot compared to everyone else.

I am really to stupid for this subject but: we got rid of satellite in April. Now we have the internet and Hulu. I thought Hulu and Sling were the same thing. We have smart TVs on the main floor, which give us Hulu. We would have to use Roku if we used Sling, which is cheaper thank Hulu. But what is the difference? We are not streaming smart!!

1. I'm sure you aren't stupid.
2. Hulu and Sling are just different streaming services. Sort of like you might have AT&T or Sprint for a phone. Each offer different content options. Similar to different offerings for cable or satelite.
Sling, Philo, Hulu, etc... are all streaming services, but they all are the same thing, just different programs or channels offered.

thanks. I called to cancel last year and got a sorta deal, hoping for similar. good luck when you renew. I renewed at the end of August, when my last promo ended. Called to cancel, and the automated service offered me the same promo that I was using. It was super easy, though you could probably get an even better deal if you talked to a person. Getting it cheaper than $5/month was not worth the hassle for me.

I think I paid $12/mo but I got almost all of the channels, can stream via app/my tv, etc. it's not just for the car. so idk if that's a great deal or not.

We have Apple TV , AT&T TV , Netflix , Hulu ( which sucks) , ESPN plus , Disney , Sirius XM , HBO plus , and Amazon Prime .
And all all those are still a lot cheaper monthly than Directv ever was .

And I believe that earlier this year, they changed it so that ALL subscriptions can stream.

thanks, ladies. I'm going to specifically ask for that price, if presented with anything more expensive. I can deal with $75/yr.

Yes, all subscriptions can stream. I was paying for two subscriptions to get it in the house.
I don't think I had to threaten to leave this time. I just asked if I couldn't have a lower price and that was the first offer.
It's worth the phone call for me.

I'm a trendsetter; I've never paid for cable in my life. *flips hair*
We have Fios internet ($55/month) and have a Roku TV. We regularly use Hulu, Netflix, and Prime. We were using our friends' Netflix account for years but we recently started paying for it ourselves because one day I went to watch something and I was logged out and couldn't log back in. I thought they were giving us a hint, but nope, they had to change the password and forgot to give it us. 🤣 We will sometimes add on Starz or HBO to our Prime or Hulu account, usually when a specific show we're watching is back for another season (American Gods, Barry).
As far as free channels on our Roku TV, we watch PlutoTV a lot. Hubsie likes those stupid world's greatest man with a chainsaw shows, and I like to put on Slow TV when I'm feeling stressed and need the soothing sounds of a train rolling through the Norwegian countryside.

A few years ago NPR did a story about how to cut cable and not pay for streaming. They interviewed a few people in their 20's. All of their solutions were to use their parent's accounts. A few of them shared accounts with friends - so they still had to pay a little. What a dumb story. Headline "People in their 20's still find small ways to mooch of their parents". Shocking revelation. Lol.

If I didn't leave in podunk and could get local stations over the air, I would cut my satellite tv. I can't so I won't.

renewing XM rn over the phone, I was offered the "all access" package for $99 plus taxes. I specifically asked about the $75.15 you both mentioned, but was told the $99 is the only offer he had. whatever, I can live with that. ETA: this operator. he's trying to explain that my rate will automatically renew next November at whatever the current rate is for the package. I said no, I don't want automatic renewal, is there a reason why it has to be an automatic renewal? he said that's how it's always been. um, no. you guys don't have a card of mine on file. he says yes, it automatically renews at whatever the rate is, and you get billed. I'm currently on hold waiting to speak to a supervisor, to understand the damn terms of the contract before I say yes. I kept telling him that I didn't think he understood what the word 'automatic' meant, bc what he was describing is not an automatic renewal.

They always send an email before it renews so I can call and fix it. Mine is on that and it hasn't been an issue. They would charge whatever card you use today. I got the all access for $99 pre tax in both cars.

I've always been told it will automatically renew. So I call again and threaten to leave if they don't give me a good rate. It has worked every time.
That's part of the contract language all the years I've had Sirius/XM--probably since 2006
