This thread inspired me to talk to DH about T-day. I hadn't thought about it and I'm not in any shape to cook or be taken anywhere. He's going to cook. I told him he could scale down, using some of the suggestions on this thread (turkey breast in stead of full turkey, etc.) but he wants to do it.

My DF who does most of the cooking wants to purchase a honey baked ham. Since I am not a huge fan of turkey I really do not care. It will just be the 2 of us as my family will not get together at this time. I just want a baked sweet potatoe.

I like turkey and I like leftovers. So does he. But I don't think he's ever made anything as complicated as the T-day or Christmas meal. But he can prove me wrong. I'm good with that. lol.

Beth it's great that he wants to try. He may be a great cook. I'm sure he'll do fine, especially if he keeps the menu simple. I always find the hardest part of any meal is getting everything ready to serve at the same time.

Last year, we went with a dinner prepared by a local catering company and it was great. This year, we've gone back to the same company that lets us pick-and-choose what we want. Our menu this year for the two of us? Turkey Wellington, gourmet green bean casserole and harissa/honey sweet potatoes. I will probably just add a salad or another green veggie. And I've ordered a keto (sugar free) pumpkin pie from Etsy since I'm diabetic. Easy peasy.

One time I made Thanksgiving taquitos. We put sweet potatoes, cranberries and turkey inside small tortillas and fried them. They were delicious, but I really hate deep frying.
I was thinking this year I might make empanadas with left over turkey. I make a Chipotle BBQ sauce - mix that with black beans, corn and turkey and bake them.
This is assuming we are doing two types of meat for 4 or 6 people on Thanksgiving day.

Based on this thread my DH and I ordered a turkey dinner from an upscale grocery store in the area. Turkey breast with cider glaze, whipped potatoes, gravy, orange and cranberry sauce, brussels sprouts grilled with bacon, cornbread and pecan pie. All this for DH, me and DD34. There will be much leftover.
I'll actually be making pumpkin and apple pies that people have ordered from me along with cranberry-nut bread and butter rolls. THose I'll be making the day before TDay.

After I disinvited my neighbors, I made a decision to get a smoked turkey from the food truck. TD is getting 2 teeth pulled the day before, so thinking he’ll be eating mostly mashed potatoes and gravy.

I decided to buy a small ham for our Thanksgiving dinner since it will only be DH and I. I’ll have either mashed or scalloped potatoes, rolls, veggies and pumpkin pie for dessert. I looked at all the premade options, but they all had turkeys and we won’t eat that much turkey and we don’t care for white meat either, so ham it is!
