We drove to Key West once Looooong bridges I went to Key West twice with the Naval Air Reserves. You all felt safe from Cuba those 4 weeks, right? Anyway I promised my wife I'd take her there someday. When retiring in 2010 we flew to Orlando to visit her sister then drove to Key West. It was interesting along the long water route but I'd never do it again. Stayed in a hotel on a Navy base there for $55 a night. Nice retirement benefit.

And you are driving a Corolla 😱 I had 2 Corolla's in 2005. They were nice. Now I have 2 RAV4's. They are very nice. 2006 and 2015. Should replace the 2006 one soon.

DH and I were vacationing in Dandridge a few years ago, and one day we were just driving around and came upon a public fire tower road. I do not have height phobias, but holy hell, never again. The road was narrow and no guard rails. I nearly had to pry my hands off of whatever they were clutching. We visited Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge for a family vacation. I’d always said I wanted to stay in the mountains someday, so we rented a place in the mountains. I’d never considered that we’d have to drive up the mountain to get there. Or that we’d have to drive down to explore “town” and back up again to get back “home”. The roads on the mountain were too narrow for my comfort, and the steep drop offs on the side of the road (with no guard rails) wrecked my nerves. I quickly learned that I didn’t think that whole “staying in the mountains” thing through. I also declared that we had to be “home” before it got dark. I would’ve slept in the van, parked in town, before I would’ve tried to get up that mountain in the dark. When we first got there and were making our way up the mountain to get to where we would be staying, I could hear DBF’s youngest teen daughter, who was sitting right behind me, quietly saying every few minutes “this is too high. This is too high”, I agreed with her, but didn’t say anything out loud. The van we’d rented didn’t even like it, it would whine like it was struggling. Even though I wasn’t driving, I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the road long enough to enjoy the scenery when we were going up or down the mountain, but the views of the Smokey Mountains from where we were staying were breathtaking. The Eastern part of the state is beautiful, including the mountains, but I don’t ever want to drive up a mountain again. I’ve BTDT and I’m over it. I am thankful we found a place in a valley. My front porch view is a mountain on the other side of the valley. We do have a drive to get to town, but no hair raising heights. There are a lot of blind curves and the road is hilly, but two lane.

That sounds ideal to me. Living near mountains, at the base of one, or in between.

Years ago, I worked with a guy (long distance) who always called me Sunshine for some reason. I've never been a "sunny" person, as far as personality goes - and you all know it, lol. So, I went with moonbeam, which was sort of opposite. Gradually, I shortened it to just Moon, or Moonie. But then I wanted people to remember I was an actual person, so now it's a combo.

not enough retirement savings Mine is on the same theme. I joined the old MSN Money board and I consider myself a late bloomer about financial planning. Someone already had latebloomer so I added the R. I've tried other screen names on other message boards but it didn't feel like "me".

Can I say I spent more time that I care to admit here. In Panama City, FL Won't bore with details but the "name" just stuck with me and started using NNP as far back as my first email account back in the dark ages

Mine is pretty self explanatory. I am a woman that was born in Reykjavik, Iceland. I'll answer for Icey since she rarely is on this board other than Thursdays and Fridays. She has lived in the states most of her life. Currently in Colorado (visited her a few times since my younger brother lives near her) ETA: Thank you for this tread. It is fun and some of the answers are very interesting!

No, she doesn't live there anymore. She lives in my state, and we know each other personally. We've had a few board meet-ups so I've also had the pleasure of meeting the Padre and several others. The year we had people from both England and Australia was fun!
edit - lol irishpad! You beat me!

I thought you were female What's the Chive website? Dating? it's a pop culture site, huge brand thing. chive.com. I'd link it, but my work laptop blocks the site and I can't grab it that way. as far as the guy/girl thing, that's why I have a girl in the avatar. on the Chive, guys are "Chivers" and girls are "Chivettes". I say, whatever.

Thanks Padre and Moonie for responding for me!

When I first signed up, I was a big Grey's Anatomy fan and the phrase "Seriously?" was used often on that show. But the screen name Seriously was already taken. I was seriously in debt back then, so I decided on seriousthistime.
I really was serious about getting out of debt so I joined the Women in Red Racers, and started to save, too. I got out of all but mortgage debt and managed to save enough for a reasonably comfortable retirement which starts in a few months.

Irishpad will get this. Like Abram became Abraham, I was renamed Artemis. I hadn't used most of my life until I got a reminder. I use it online and for one email. Angel Bubble Kiss came from the show Ridiculousness when a woman was nearly hit by a car. Rob Dyrdek say now that's an angel bubble kiss. I have used 3044 Artemis and Artemis 3044 in the past.
