DD wanted a propane patio heater for her deck. She waited too long. She says the entire city of Portland is sold out. Everyone else had the same idea of being able to stay outside longer into the fall and winter.

I’m not surprised- I wonder if restaurants are snapping them up. When I visited Zurich on business, people would be dining outside restaurants in the dead of winter, warmed by blankets and heaters. France has already banned the practice because it’s wasting energy but I could see it becoming popular as it gets cold here in the US.

I buy Goodnites Disposable Bed Mats (for Bedwetting, 2.4 x 2.8 ft, 9 Ct). They are not for me. I have four cat litter boxes in the house and I put a pad under each litter box. On occassion one of the cats misses the box (seven cats in house).
I use them though primarily to help contain the litter from the boxes the cats frequently knock out of the box. Easier to clean up.
I used to buy a pack of nine from the store for about $9.95 per pack. The stores have now been out of them for about a month.
I thought of buying in bulk from Amazon just now but when I looked them up, Amazon is out too and not sure when they will have some in stock. I also saw Amazon is selling them for $35.00 for a single pack of nine. No thanks!
Found an inferior product of bed mats Amazon recommended (50 per package) for $35. That should last me a while.

And the of the remaining four are teenage litter mates and like most teenagers are messy by nature. Cat seven is the teenagers' mother. ETA: I forgot to mention that the two groups do not get along. So each group is locked up in a bedroom for 12 hour shifts so the other group has the run of the house for 12 hours.

Have you thought about checking medical supplies companies? These are also used in nursing homes. We used underpads in the lab. AbsorbS on top, with a plastic on back. A case of these was maybe $20?

I'm using dog pads (wee wee pads, house training pads). The XLarge size is 28 inches by 30 inches. They might have bigger ones. I never looked - this size works best for me. I got a pack of 50 for $14.99. I don't have dogs. I have an elderly sickish cat who pukes volumes. She's sequestered in a room with hardwood floors. The cat is consistent and tends to barf in 3 spots. I have the floor covered in those areas. I use the "house brand" from petsmart (Great choice?) they work great. She also tends to pee herself (and me) when I have to give her medication or trim her nails. I purrito her in a dog pad. The dog pee pads work great - hold alot (3 cups) and are very absorbent and it doesn't soak thru the backing no matter how long it's been wet. I also have another cat that likes to dig to China and then would hang his butt over the side of the box... he's also a Big Boy - so those little hooded cat boxes are a tight squeeze. I bought a plastic tote - like you would store stuff in your closet or garage. I cut a cat sized hole in one side and filled it with litter. Since my Big Boy also has a trick knee (old College Foot Ball injury) I made the hole about 3 inches off the floor (his old cat box had a 6 inch high box. Now he's got plenty of room to turn and dig and dance around to find the perfect spot (the same spot he always pees or poops in) along with easy access. There's little mess outside the box. It's not a pretty litter box, but it works.

I buy Sam's Club 23 x 24 puppy training pads, 120 ct. for $14.98. If these are big enough for you, they work great. I was there this week and they had plenty. Costco had a good suppy of their training pads this week, too.

Well, toilet paper and paper towels are not in short supply yet at Costco, but everybody (and I'm not exaggerating) seemed to have one or both in their cart today. I went with both along with napkins, spray starch, and a 12-pack case of organic sliced mushrooms.
I do foresee not wanting to get out as much this winter so I am trying to stock up some on staples. Last time I went to Costco it was organic tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Before that, it was kidney beans.

I like to use canned mushrooms in various things. My discount grocery store was carrying cans of them for $0.69. However, they haven't had any recently. I've also been trying to buy anything I might want to use to cook during the holidays. I can see people stocking up on those types of items before long.

What you did with the cheap tote sounds like how I make my cat houses. I fill them with old rugs & towels & the cats love them. They are all on the deck with the opening facing away from the normal direction of the wind. I also put an old rug over the tops of them & the cats can lay up there when it's not cold out.
