Here, when mandates are issued, the local government/law enforcement comes out immediately and say they won't be enforced here where independence reins. That's not going to change - in fact, democrats are hated enough it just might get worse. TBH, most police forces are overworked and under-funded. In my town, people joke that the only way you can get a police officer on the scene is to say someone has a gun. I'm betting a call from my local Wal-Mart about an unarmed person refusing to wear a mask would not be considered very high priority. I did my regular weekly grocery shopping this morning- not crowded, fortunately, and they had paper towels. I just started my last roll yesterday and I'm betting the 6-pack I got today (limit 1) will last me a year. So I guess I'm hoarding, too.

I paid regular price on a 8pk of mega rolls of Angel Soft w/ no coupon Walgreens or otherwise. Shopping in the local grocery store seemed intense. Most people appear to be buying for both Christmas and Thanksgiving. I was getting that feeling of panic from the shoppers like when a coastal storm is coming and you don't know if you are going to lose power, and if so, for how long.Exactly! I knew there's been something familiar about all this craziness. So far there's been no shortage of candles. LOL aw, now you're making me feel guilty for taking advantage of Yankee Candle sales while having a generator.

Agree it’s fantasy thinking that Biden will stop spread of the virus. It’s western culture as seen in Europe and the US I think we have a serious lack of science education, a lot of freedom and independence thinking, selfishness, financial instability/insecurity, along with a bit of religion thrown in. Basically, we're screwed and it doesn't matter who inhabits the White House. I've seen mention of how Biden's nationwide mask mandate will be a game changer. No, it won't. At least not in rural areas. Here, when mandates are issued, the local government/law enforcement comes out immediately and say they won't be enforced here where independence reins. That's not going to change - in fact, democrats are hated enough it just might get worse. This is where you wonder if a good statesman could work it a little better. Instead of a national mandate, could Biden find people who are leaders in that particular community and convince them to wear masks. Pair that with getting the National Republican Party onboard - have them suddenly discover their own science or specialists or whatever, and both national and state Republicans can change the narrative a little. Have conservative leaders work with conservative news outlets to change the message. If Joe is smart, that is how he will play it. Let the GOP own the message and take credit when they get their people to participate.

A friend posted a picture from a liquor store in southern Georgia the other day. A sign on the door stated the establishment didn't not consent to the mask mandate. This city was badly hit this spring and they sent CDC staff to figure out why it was so bad there. I believe we have our answer.

The issue is the state tells businesses to close, but no one enforces it. And, by actively coming out and declaring no one will be enforcing it, the businesses just don't close.

I've been wanting to go downtown and take photos of the signs on the doors of some businesses. One tells you if you want to wear a mask then shop somewhere else. There's one about how this is a free country. Yet another talks about how the bitch of a governor will never tell them how to run their business or when it will be open. The cult is strong here in the high desert. lol

They said on the news here they will enforce for any place with a food license. First violations will get a warning, next violation will be a fine, third violation the health department will shut them down.

Oh have I packed in the coffee pods.....hundreds of them in boxes on the pantry floor. I love the Starbucks Holiday Coffee and load in enough that I can have it all year long. Hoarding? maybe, but no one is going to get my holiday coffee away from me.

I think it's pretty much been established now that America is only a free country for white straight male Republican gun toting, ideally evangelical , anti-maskers.

I went in a convenience store locally today. They were not wearing masks in any of them. Today the Health Department had up a sign that said you will and the workers had them on. Our small county is out of control.

I've started buying pods from And That! (aka Christmas Tree Shops) because I've found one I really like from Victor Allen Coffee Company. A carton of 84 is about $20, and I only drink one a day so that's almost a three-month supply. Buying a carton from And That! is cheaper than buying online direct from Victor Allen.

I'm very sorry, but there isn't any of that left.....I started buying it in Sept. and haven't stopped.

Victor coffee is solid. that's what we used at my parents coffee shop back in HS. 👍 for me, I'm safe from hoarding as long as I can still get my supply from Cafe du Monde.

Anndddd.... Just like that. Yet another thread goes political. Yup - and only a mere 350 posts about toilet paper before we got there. You would think we could discuss purchasing butt wipe products for thousands upon thousands of posts.

It disrupts what is otherwise fun and/or informative conversation.

Well, we could always debate folded vs. wadded up TP and which does the most effective job.
