I am confused. If the 401K max has already been reached then why does it matter if additional bonus checks are received?

I am confused. If the 401K max has already been reached then why does it matter if additional bonus checks are received? Because you lose out on the match if the match is per paycheck. The 401K max is only on employee contributions, not employer, so if the employee maxes out what they can put in before year end they're out of luck unless there is a true up employer contribution.
