My OR friend sent a video of I5 and the dense smoke. The fire is 2 miles from her house. They are at level 2 and the next step is go evacuation.

I didn't clap back when someone posted on FB that the fires out west were a hoax. This is from someone in WA state. Blessings to all involved in this fire pandemic. Hoax? In Washington state? This morning’s AQI in Seattle is 204. Down in Portland it’s 506. Basically a ‘don’t go outside’. What’s wrong with that person? It was a rant. Not a good place for her. Someone needs to do a settling down, rethink this or mental check on her.

AQI in Boise is 174. It smells gross, but thankfully it isn't worse. Feel really bad for everyone in the path of the fires, the stories coming out of Oregon are heart wrenching. Hope some help comes soon, in some form.

Today is the first time in I don't know how long since we had actual sunshine, you know the kind with shadows and stuff. So I decided to look up the AQI and while not as bad as in WA near dondub we are still closing in in "very unhealthy" air. As I am already staying indoors most of the time due to C19 there is not much I can do about it. 2020 can shove it. I want a refund for this year and just skip to 2021 Heck no. I'm skipping ahead to 2022. If we can't get anyone sensible in government to get COVID under control, 2021 is just going to be more of the same. If so, I'm moving

I don't think they could calculate that high.

I'm a good 20 miles from the fires but the air quality is just nasty. This morning I couldn't see the houses across the street. Rain is expected to come in tomorrow night and Tuesday everyone hopes that helps to clear out the smoke.

I cannot even imagine, I would have to leave, could not breathe in that. I don't know how much whole house air cleaners would help, but I'm thinking not enough.

I've been praying for rain for the West Coast. The weather pattern there is definitely making things worse. You guys need a break!

I guess they had to try, but lost cause to talk to Trump about climate change
From the meeting with Gov. Newsom and California’s secretary of natural resources.
“We have to do a lot about forest management. Obviously forest management in California is very important, and now it extends to Washington and extends also to Oregon,” Trump said. “There has to be good, strong forest management, which I’ve been talking about for three years with this state, so hopefully they’ll start doing that.” “If we ignore that science and put our head in the sand and think it’s all about vegetation management, we’re not going to succeed at protecting Californians,” Crowfoot responded. “It’ll start getting cooler,” Trump replied. “You just watch.”
“I wish science agreed with you,” Crowfoot said. “Well, I don’t think science knows actually,” Trump retorted, laughing.

As much as I'd like to move to a different part of the country, I'm not sure I could deal with with this type of stuff. It gets cold here, but if it gets really cold, you just stay inside and don't go anywhere for a day or so until it warms up.

that's horrific. 163 here. which is bad. There is an inversion trapping all the smoke. It was supposed to be relatively clear by today but the new weather failed to make a dent. Maybe Friday will have some semblance of normal. What’s next for 2020!😳

For once he has said something that is probably true though it has nothing to do with the issue of global warming. Considering that we live in the northern hemisphere and it is mid-September chances are pretty good that it will get cooler pretty soon. Yet somehow Boston and the price of baked beans comes to mind.

I have a pregnant friend who just bought a house up near Portland. Thinking some sort of air-filter might make a good house warming gift? Any recommendations?

If I were in any of those states, I would drive east to an AirBnb, and stay until the air clears. I can't imagine it is either healthy or comfortable to be in that mess. Some airbnb's give discounts for staying more than a week. And there are some fairly inexpensive ones if you go to a place that isn't as in-demand. Make sure they have wi-fi and go virtual for everything. We already are - no need to stay home.

I have a pregnant friend who just bought a house up near Portland. Thinking some sort of air-filter might make a good house warming gift? Any recommendations? O3 generator. It will remove 100% of the smoke from the house using particle incineration at a molecular level. The secret is to match the output of the generator to the cubic feet of volume of the interior as the electron exchange eliminates both the O3 and the smoke. A bigger one (500mg/hour) will only be needed to run about 60 seconds twice a day and costs about $50. You don't want to produce more O3 than is needed. I have one that I use when controlled burns are happening in the spring in my area. I don't have my new pc set up yet, so I can't give you a link. Electronic particle precipitation also works well, used to be called 'smoke eaters' years ago.

Anyone ever watch the Frontline episode called Fire in Paradise? Speaking of Paradise, those poor people were evacuated again last week. My Aunt lives about 10 minutes down the hill from there, and she has been on standby to evacuate for weeks. I think it is getting better now. Here in Sacramento we have pretty clear air today, but last week was horrible. I have many friends that lived in Paradise, and none of them are rebuilding there. It just seems to risky now.

And that would be two days in the car thru really awful air quality.
A better bet is to hope the coast clears just a little and stay there.

I just ordered a Levoit one that won't arrive until next Friday. All the ones I was looking at were selling out or shipping in October. Wish I would have ordered a few days ago

A lot of the fires in California start on federal land (at least the ones near me that were started by lightening). The state cannot manage that land. Only Trump can so his ignorance is especially troubling 3 kids evacuated to my house again. Not sure if my sister in Santa Rosa is evacuating
