The fire season in the west is record breaking this year.
2.2 million acres burned in California alone so far this year.
Pictures of the smoke overcast are almost unbelievable.

Some of these gender reveal celebrations are getting out of hand like the one which caused the El Dorado Fire in California.

I'm in Oregon and the fires are awful at the moment. We are in a drought situation, had several fires started by lightening, followed by high winds which fanned the flames. The high winds also knocked down trees onto power lines which started more fires. One fire was started by a motorhome towing a vehicle which sent out some sparks.
Right now I have high anxiety from worrying about family members, friends, and co-workers who have had to evacuate or who have lost property. Then today the whack-a-doodles are starting to come out of the woodwork and are claiming that Antifa and the BLM protestors have started the fires. I just can't with people at the moment. I wish those people would just climb back under the rocks they slithered out from under.

So sorry you’re in the middle of this. I used to think fires moved in a fairly steady rate but after seeing the fires in Gatlinburg several years back, those winds were whipping the embers making the fires jump from one mountain side to another at an amazing speed. Terrifying. Is there any rain being forecasted at all?

The climate of the west worries me a good bit. I saw a map of fire danger projections in 20 years and it was pretty bad for our area. DH and I are going to look at land in the upper Midwest this year, just to hold for now. Idaho doesn't get many of the fires yet, but the smoke makes being outside in late summer really miserable.
ETA: DH and I being from the midwest and the east coast respectively, didn't consider fires when we moved.

It seems a bit smokier in Seattle today. Golfed yesterday and wasn’t as bad. Wednesday golfing-reminded me of my dad. Dad golfed every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday weather permitting. During the summer months at dad's country club, doctors, dentists, lawyers and others golfed on Wednesdays. Their offices closed. During the winter months it was poker in the 19th hole on Wednesdays-the hell with the New England weather.

She said she just got a "heads up" email from her son that she was going to get smoke tomorrow...the winds are changing. It is just unreal how much is burning or has already burnt.

I golf but my older brothers don't. When I couldn't find work, my H. said go to the golf course. When I was working, we'd golf several nights a week after work. That was when an annual pass was affordable. Back to the fires. I feel for the people who are in the path. We had a fire incident in WY when my brother was in his last days with cancer. It was horrid. Then we had an unauthorized entry from some thugs. They videoed that terror and turned it into something else.

Sorry for the loss of your brother and the unauthorized entry event. Dad was a pretty good golfer won a number of tournaments at his club. My mom was the ladies golf champion three or four times. Older brother and younger brother played golf when young and still play today. I played for a couple of years in my twenties. But the early start times were just not conducive to keep me interested.

I did play golf as a preteen. We got a gift membership to a camp resort that had a course. I was getting pretty good at keeping my ball out of the woods and then puberty hit. At that point I started giving "lessons" to girls. I lost the motivation to stay out of the woods.

I'm in Salem Oregon. So far we're just troubled by the thick smoke. Our air quality is considered beyond hazardous. The fires area about 20 miles away. Many business are closed just because of the air quality or employees not being able to come to work. The economic consequences of this on top of Covid will be bad. Interestingly, Red Cross is not opening shelters, but giving voucher to hotels. Most evacuation staging areas are outside. The State Fair Ground is taking in livestock. So far only 2 fatalities from our area, but I'm sure that will rise. Many people still missing. The rumors about antifa and looters are nuts. This is from my house Tuesday around noon. Now it's just smokey, not red.

In Oregon they are now saying that 500,000 people have been evacuated, about 12% of the population.

The fire in the outskirts of our little town was caused by a fallen power line combined with the heatwave. The fire in the town where we're from and most of our family still lives was caused by arson. I don't know if the arsonist anticipated over 1000 structures being completely burned, but that's what happened. Another one on the northside of the next town over the fire marshal thinks was caused from sparks from vehicles hitting dry grass and then the 100ºF day.

The Dubettes were thinking of bailing on Portland to go to a place we have near Mt. Rainier but the AQI there is just as bad. Smoke coming up from Oregon plus some that is local. So much for my trip down to do outside work for three days too.😖

In Oregon they are now saying that 500,000 people have been evacuated, about 12% of the population. This was corrected yesterday. 500,000 are under some kind of order, Level 1, 2 or 3. Only 40,000 or so have actually left their homes.

I didn't clap back when someone posted on FB that the fires out west were a hoax. This is from someone in WA state.
Blessings to all involved in this fire pandemic.

This morning’s AQI in Seattle is 204. Down in Portland it’s 506. Basically a ‘don’t go outside’. What’s wrong with that person?

Today is the first time in I don't know how long since we had actual sunshine, you know the kind with shadows and stuff. So I decided to look up the AQI and while not as bad as in WA near dondub we are still closing in in "very unhealthy" air. As I am already staying indoors most of the time due to C19 there is not much I can do about it. 2020 can shove it. I want a refund for this year and just skip to 2021

It got a little better yesterday. I hoped the fog today would help, but I think made it worse. Current AQI for my zip code : 556 The bad air now stretches from Tijuana, Mexico to Whistler, Canada and out to Yellowstone National Park

I'm skipping ahead to 2022. If we can't get anyone sensible in government to get COVID under control, 2021 is just going to be more of the same.
