At the same time Woodward was interviewing/taping trump, trump was giving press conferences about the virus. In attendance with trump were doctors Fauci and Birx. trump was saying no big deal. Doctors Fauci and Birx were saying it was a big deal and why.

Some folks decided to follow trump and his no big deal approach. Others decided to follow science.

Therefore, it would have made no difference had Woodward alerted the world right after interviewing trump.

I am hoping this will be the straw that breaks MIL's need to vote for Trump. She is part of the Christian group that has to twist herself into a pretzel to explain why God would send this guy. She has been unhappy with his response to CV. I am hoping that finding out he was gambling with her (older, diseased riddled) life will be enough for her to vote Biden. She can keep all the other R's in power- Senate. House, State, Local, etc. I know that is my Dad's plan.

I told DH last night that my Mother recently told me if Biden is elected President, Christians would not be allowed to go to church.  Biden is a Catholic and attends mass regularly.  My DH was shocked.  He asked me if I challenged that and told her it was not true.  I said yes, but she did not believe me.  I don't know if the Church is pushing nonsense like that or if she just heard it from her friends, but there is no way she will vote Democratic.  The Christian vote is knee deep in conspiracy non-sense.  They are lost.  Hopefully there are enough of the rest of us to save the country, otherwise Trump will appoint himself dictator, show his true stripes and stop allowing people to go to church, because really why should people worship anyone by him.

Tell her not to worry. The Conservative Christians have fantastic lawyers. They have saved Crosses and other religious symbols that are in government buildings and property while simultaneously removing symbols from other religions. And with the courts stuffed full of Heritage Foundation approved judges, there is no way they would lose if they challenged some law that outlawed church. I would ask her for more details on exactly how Biddn will accomplish this. And then ask her specifically about grouos that belong to the CCLO. Tell her she can make donations to them and they will fight for her right to go to church, and they will win.

I talked to my neighbors today. During an unrelated-to-politics part of the conversation, the woman told me that if Biden is elected the gay people, black people, and rapists will move here and take over. She was 100% positive of it.

Common sense tells you he is lying.  Fauci and Birk were on stage with him saying the opposite, and they chose to believe Trump.  I just can't with some of his supporters.  I have some relatives I have decided I will not go out of my way to see/interact with.  So, yeah.  I am one that dosn't think Woodward speaking up earlier would make a difference.  Trump would have called it Fake News...

In any case, Trump's minions are morons. I watched a few of them interviewed at a recent rally. One guy said he didn't believe Covid was a danger, because his god would protect him. Another said Covid didn't exist, it was just the flu. A third said 190,000 didn't die from Covid, but from something else. It's all lies.

I  have several people on facebook that post Corona is going to disappear November 3rd.   I am assuming that implies it is a democratic hoax to get Biden elected.

So let's say Biden wins and Corona does NOT go away on November 3rd?  I'd like to see how they are going to spin that because why would democrats keep up a hoax intending to get Trump out of office if they succeed?

And obviously if Trump wins and Coronoa virus does not go away that's the democrats doubling down to get him out before he finishes his second term.


I really want to know what these people smoke because it sounds like it would do a good job of getting me out of my head for awhile.

If that is true, you have to ask why there are so many people - including GOP governors and other party members, Putin, all of Europe, India, medical personnel and related corporations, etc, etc. That many people will go through that much true pain to fuck with Trump. Trump keeps telling people he's keeping the "undesirables" (aka brown people) out of (white) suburbia and if you don't vote for him then the brown people will move in and "take over" killing your property values.

Apparently, according to my mom, Biden will also raise taxes so high retired people on SS won't be able to pay them. 

It's insane. Faux should be taken off the air. They are screaming "fire" in a movie theater that's not burning...

There is unfortunately no evidence to support that it would have made a difference.  The people who support Trump are calling it Fake News now, just like they would have then if the recordings were released earlier.  It doesn't matter to them if he says it on tape - remember he convinced them the things they see and hear aren't real.

The only difference is that Woodward probably wouldn't have gotten as many interviews with the president as he ultimately ended up with.

OMG!  I just listened to a clip of those in the crowd that were in MI during tRumpy's pit stop there.  No social distancing, alarmingly few masks.  One guy said that it was covid was just a way to take down the US.  Another said that only 6000 have died, the rest is fake news and would have died anyway.

Just about every one in the crowd looked like they were at risk due to age and weight.  

THESE are the people who should be alarmed by what the president said in that tape, but are not.  There is no way this tape would have made a difference to this crowd.

They said they know the virus is real (obviously - they are in healthcare), but they believe the media has hyped the virus to help get Trump out of office. They believe that after Biden is in office that a more positive spin will start to develop. I cannot stand Trump and absolutely do not want him re-elected but, when explained to me that way, I'm not sure they are altogether wrong. The virus is definitely not going to disappear but I wouldn't be surprised if certain media outlets don't start focusing some of their efforts elsewhere.

I don't agree with this.  I don't think it would have made a difference.   

trump was saying one thing while the rest of the country (and maybe people in his administration) were saying and doing something else.   

January and February and March were confusing and chaotic.  I was at work (with international offices in Asia Pacific)  I have co-workers who have family in Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Australia.    So, I was hearing some rumbling about some additional thing - illness - besides the protests in Hong Kong and the Volcano erupting in the Philippines.   I follow the Flu, and when this illness popped up - and it wasn't SARS or MERS  it caught my interest (in January).     
 
late January, and early February will filled with alot of conflicted information.  trump was spewing one thing - and my employer and my State and my local government were saying and doing something else (taking precautions prepareing to shut down).  I was a bit bewildered because I was faced with one message/actions coming from the Federal Government (nothings wrong!) and another message/actions locally (something's wrong - we need to prepare and take action).   It was late February.  I've never seen local information so dramatically different than the national information.    At that point if civil war broke out - I was siding with my local Big City - screw the US no one in charge seemed to care and only seemed to be making things worse.   I think this is the first time in my life I ever felt I didn't want to be an American much less pretend to be one  (I'm an atheist - so I grew up with the idea that I wasn't very American and not a true citizen.) 

I'm pretty sure there were a lot of indications that what trump was saying from his podium was whooey and that it was meant to provoke division between States.   trump let the states decide what they would do - and then slammed States that took precautions or shut down.    I know I'm basing this on personal experience -- but if the 3 million plus people in my area were like "holy shit! this isn't good! We need a plan!" and the presidency was saying "ah, it's like the Flu - no need to worry or do anything"   I'm guessing A LOT of people (and business leaders) knew trump was blowing wind.   

I highly doubt that Woodward has so much power that if he had said anything things would be different.   

What was needed was a concerted push from the majority of States and millions of Americans to say "no, trump - people are dying. We are going to die.  please sit down and shut up. so the responsible adults in our country can formulate a plan"
