Everyone I knew was trying to figure out how to avoid being drafted. Different animal. So 2S student deferments and 4f for physical or mental infirmities was common
Including Trump

In addition, trump was a rich boy who used connections to get out of serving. Clinton was a poor boy who used options available to everyone else. Apparently that is too nuanced for you to understand. Unless your hatred of Clinton is blinding you to the truth. What trump did is far worse. Still can’t admit you voted for a vile human being while trying to convince yourself you are a good person. And why did you delete your post?

Clinton was a Rhodes scholar,After he played political games to keep from being drafted. Check SNOPES ....... Might be the first smart thing in a long time....
Clinton: Student deferment, reservist deferment. Ultimately turned down the deferment and reclassified 1-A. Trump: Four student deferments, fake letter from doctor about nonexistent condition two years after he had been examined and classified physically fit for duty. Hmmmm, which is worse? Which is worse? my vote ALWAYS goes to the chicken hawk. ALWAYS.

Don't worry too much what libs say, they bring 'value' to the discussion. Through a negative oblique reference most times.

I'm a little curious why Joe Biden has not released any names, or a list on who he would choose for the Supreme Court if he wins the next term. Not exactly shocking news that Ginsberg won't be in much longer. He has nothing to hide, does he ? Why should he? Trump released no names when he ran in 2016. It's not 2016 ?

Which one avoided the draft in your opinion? Both. I agree. So it is now a nonissue since a president from each party who is a draft dodger was elected.

I agree. So it is now a nonissue since a president from each party who is a draft dodger was elected. So why bandy about with the term 'rich boy using connections' vs other options, if it's a non-issue to you? Using incocome averages, doctors and their offspring easily qualify as rich boys or girls. Hard to convince anyone along those lines from your income standpoint. I sure as hell wouldn't go that route unless you're just aiming for a target audience that will just hear 'Trump bad' and consider nothing else.

Trump, like many others in his socioeconomic group, use their rich boy connections to avoid serving in Vietnam. You know it, and so does everyone else. Might as well have it out in the open. Clinton, although not rich, availed himself of all possible options to avoid serving. Maybe even helped along by “liberal” faculty members at Georgetown. Again no secret. Do you have an issue with anything I just stated? ETA: and agai, I wasn’t the one who brought up the entire subject. The person who did brought up Clinton. No need to do so. But if they had an issue with Clinton, then there should be the same issue with trump. I have no other agenda.

I guess you could call my father a shipping magnate. I still registered for the draft and was up for the next lottery as was used for the Vietnam war. The war suddenly ended a few months before my turn in the drawing. Some people just aren't from the mold that precludes kiling, I wasn't one of them. I do understand some fear death more than others, so war is terrifying to them. If people avoid the draft, they have to live with their decision. I know peace is not a natural state amongst apex predators. Peace comes from a position of strength, to think otherwise is naive.

it seems far more political to me.
You might want to ask pmd that question, as I was questioning the same thing from his post.

I have already said enough on this subject. I think it is utterly offensive for hawks to be draft dodgers. I don't hold the same enmity for peaceniks who were draft dodgers. I hope everyone understand what I mean by that, and I won't need to waste any more time on it.

I know peace is not a natural state amongst apex predators. Peace comes from a position of strength, to think otherwise is naive. I think Vietnam was such a divisive time in our history. Many people have done things to avoid service, protests, etc. I think this is the time to let all of that go. There is no value to relitigating that past now. Reason why I pointed out what I did. People in both parties have done things that may not look good in the light of day. Those who served deserve our support and respect. Many of them did not come back in the same condition they left

Since the draft has been suspended, and an all volunteer army has been our reality, it isn’t the children of the upper classes who serve. Yet our politicians seem to be willing to sacrifice those souls. If their children were on the frontline, I suspect their would be more thought as to its use. And yes, I would not have my children enlist, no need to ask. But, I also did not support most of our adventures over the last 25 years

People grow and change, I used to be far left till in my 30's. I was going to help save the world. I was pretty conservative until January 28th, 2003. I still voted Republican until 2016. I might never vote for another Republican again.

Klassy... 🤬 After watching you get banned from 3 proboards forums, 'Great escape' and 'Do you believe this' and 'TCB', you definitely know what a lib is. Haven't seen you anywhere since those three. Makes me wonder why you're over here, banned again ? All I have ever seen you do is post in an OCS and P/A style, with little to no contribution to a topic. Can you change when coming here, we'll see, I have my doubts. I've been a member of this forum since inception, and msn market talk where this one started from. You won't start that way when first coming here, but you will end up being simply divisive for that sake alone, I won't welcome you to my home. ( moon/Laura for your information.)
