I am wondering what the big rush is on opening schools...If it takes another year to pass a grade or work toward a degree if one is at that level of education, so what. I am thinking certain courses might need the need of individual instructors..thinking Math, certain sciences...where as others..government, history . literature etc less so...
I have one granddaughter who would be going into her third year at USC in LA..will be staying home..actually taking over family summer place on the VineYard with a few girl friends...taking four course on line...if to much will drop two
another going into jr year high school..two days in school..three days on line
Another going into his last year of graduate work..Music...old Miss..believe all on line classes
as I have told all..no biggie in the way of life if it takes a extra year to finish up...I personally want them as close to 100 % safe as possible
any thoughts here?

I have one going into senior year. Has been home since March. Although the schooling was not optimal, the question becomes, if not taking classes, what are they going to do? Staying home and watching TV doesn't cut it. Real jobs are scarce, and the usual "gap year" things are not available, and travel is iffy at best. So, if the choice is doing nothing, or doing classes online, why waste a year.

My choice would be on line...do the best one can...Possible spend some $ to get better on line connection..a better lap top...year does not have to be wasted...if kid is not putting out..if he's going into senior year...kids that age are serving in armed forces..holding responsible jobs...to asak a kid to put out is not out of the question...IMHO.

You are aware that a considerable number of families in this country do not have access to internet or computers? My city's school system bought like 900,000 electronic systems for students' on-line classes. Heard it on the local news. My first thought in hearing this on the news was "What if a kid breaks it or loses it?" The news answered my question: parents will be responsible for an $85 repair fee. And if the device is lost the parents must pay the full cost. If the parents decide to claim the device was stolen, they must present a police report regarding the stolen device to get a new device. Okay, I can live with that. The parents are financially responsible for the care and safety of the devices.

md ............. senior year of what? High school? College?
If he/she is 18, suggest military. If younger, check military reserves
If there is a will, there is a way.

My stepdaughter is on disability due to back issue. She has a daughter who was in her first year of college last year, having pieced together the financial means to attend a regional state school. When the campus shut down, homeward she came. Of course she had aged out of support her mother was getting to help feed her and child support was gone. She is still racking up loan charges. But what the hell, what is another year before she becomes a self supporting adult.
