A lame poster. From your unimaginative parents. Seceral of her friends made their own posters. Is that even lamer?

Before I even got to your Parks and Rec idea, I was going to suggest a show/movie/song that she likes. There are lots of Friends tributes going around the last few years with "The one where _____ graduates"
But, if you're not a Friends fan, it's not great.
There are tons of Parks and Recs references that would be apt for this moment.

Crepe paper streamers in school colors on the car.
Poster board painted with a wide paintbrush from the craft store in school colors. Crepe paper border stapled on for color.
A poster depicting any sport or hobby that she enjoys.
A poster that says "You got this!"
A poster featuring her name in big bold letters and her besties in slightly smaller letters.
Say anything that indicates who she is without it being embarrassing.
Can you consult with her? Maybe she has ideas.

We have to put holes in the sign, so they can zip-tie it to the fence. Last time I saw my hole punch was probably the 90's.

This was the part of teaching that I hated . . . stuff like door decorating. Supposedly, the kids did it, but I had seniors, most of whom went home before Advisory. So it was up to me to push the few remaining ones to at least help me with whatever idea I came up with it. I stole ideas off the internet the last few years. And my last teaching year, I simply asked if they were interested. It was a bunch of guys who said, "You can't make us." In prior years, I would have tried or simply done it myself. That last year I simply didn't. The world did not end! You may have just answered a question I've always had - "why did I and my friends get away with so much silly stuff in HS? The teachers just "looked the other way" and yelled at some other kids". OK, it wasn't really like that (but it was) - I'm pretty sure we were more "tolerated" by the teachers than other groups of kids. I think the difference was we'd cooperate enthusiastically with the stupid stuff like "door decorating" (we did like 5 doors - because one was not enough and we had some many ideas) or bake sales or school pride stuff or pretty much something we made up because it sounded fun (we did a Christmas Parade "day" - where we'd "carole" as we walked between classes and were dressed in holiday themed stuff. It helped that the majority were in choir or band. We also "wrapped" our favorite teacher's classroom doors for Christmas... it was a lot of doors. We used up all the odds and ends of gift paper our parents had and a few brown paper bags... even if it wasn't Holiday paper. The Parade nor the wrapped doors were officially 'sanctioned' by anyone - we just did it. There were 2000+ kids in my HS.) Maybe the teachers were "relieved" we weren't exactly trouble makers?

I got an 80's thing going on:
Future's so bright you gotta wear shades?
You're Going the Distance! (ok, 90's cake song that isn't really appropriate...)
Dream Big! (or something like that)
something about "don't fit in, stand out"
And here's my Punk suggestion: Rise Above!!! (Black Flag. Ah, the good old days.)

Good thing I didn't glue anything down. She hated my idea. It’s your job as a parent to embarrass her with your stupid ideas. I always strived to get at least one eye roll out of my kids. Do what ever you feel is right. If it makes you smile, even as others cringe, you’ve been successful 🙂

She didn't like it because I was going to put her friends' names on it. She wanted it to be all about her. She looked a little hurt. So, I made the change. I really appreciate everyone's help. The blue line is where her name would go - for some reason, today I want one sand grain of privacy. It started raining last night, so we went over this morning to hang it. There were a couple of beautiful signs over there. One girl, her Dad is an artist (like, actually makes a living as an artist of some sort). Her sign was amazing. Mine was probably average, but my daughter liked it.

She liked it. That's what matters.
My DD is 5 years out of HS. She still remembers and appreciates what I did for her when it was her senior year.
