I thought it would be longer to go up through Montana but I wasn't sure.
BC is starting to hand out Transit Tags for people going through to Alaska. Maybe you can get something like this for the trip through BC to Calgary.
I know TD's working again but I would recommend sooner rather then later if he can swing it. There isn't only the mountain weather. There is also the fact people are getting sloppy. Last I heard there were over 1,000 people in quarantine in BC because of possible exposure. I am hoping numbers stay relatively low but I'm not counting on it.
My dad (90) talked himself out of trying to visit his younger siblings in Alberta and Saskatchewan because of the ups and downs. He doesn't want to give it and he doesn't want to get it. It is also possible that he wouldn't be permitted to see his brother who lives in a nursing home. And his other brother drives the tourist wagon at a Heritage Farm in Alberta so he potentially has a lot of exposure. My dad's biggest fear was that we would drive all that way and not be permitted to see everyone and then my dad would be barred from returning to the Seniors Home he lives in for 14 days.
Good luck.

TD's family reunion was this weekend, where his family gathers in Salmon Arm for a few days. His relatives are scattered across Canada, from Quebec to BC and it's organized by those in BC. They have chosen to cancel it this year because of the pandemic. Many are older and just do not want to risk it.
I'm not pushing TD too much right now to make plans. I agree, sooner is better than later and who the hell knows what travel is going to be like when flu season hits. I suspect things are going to get ugly on both sides of the border. I have found that it's just easiest to plant an idea in his brain and let him come to the conclusion of what to do. But he is clearly aware of possible weather issues, and what going up to Calgary will entail.

Yes and TD is also dealing with the knowledge that his father is so ill and that is hard.
