Sadly, there are many of the boomer generation who still think this way about black folks. My parents and grandparents grew up in Oakland when it used to be a "nice place", aka predominantly Caucasian. I'd say the "N" word was very prolific in my house growing up. My mom's the only one still living and she won't even watch a TV program or movie that's comprised of predominantly black actors. We were never allowed to date anyone "not white", etc... In fact, my sister once brought home a Hispanic guy and my step-father physically removed him from our house. Today, he would have been charged with assault. Interestingly, my sister is now clean, out of prison, and married to a Mexican guy. I refused to raise my kids to be prejudice against anyone and insisted my late DH keep his own racism to himself. My kids are 100% fine with anyone. Success!

"I had no idea people would react the way they did." Anyone call the fire department to douse his pants yet? Not that they need to protect his balls as he clearly has none. If you want to throw out such racist claptrap at least have the guts to acknowledge that is what you are doing

What you mean this isn't the good old days when a mayor could make a racist comment and everyone cheers/supports him?

Wow. This is what our country has come to? No, that's what that neck of the state has been like for a long time. I used to hear quite similar stuff all the time up there.
I live downstate now. Now I just sense sentiments like that. Usually, I can sense them coming and redirect conversation quickly enough. I don't want to admit how often I have to do that.

Wow. This is what our country has come to? Apparently. This guy got elected with these views. This is what voting for a party and not a person, and extreme gerrymandering has given us

FWIW, in that area of the country voting for a Democrat in the general election can net you worse. The Democratic party is so weak in that area that they really can't control who gets on the ballot, so the Democratic candidate may be farther right than the Republican.
Pretty much every general election leads to the headline in the Record Eagle "Local Democrats Endorse Republican ..." The article then describes what the guy was convicted of and when he got out.
ETA: Sometimes the crime doesn't fit the time that they spent in prison, meaning that they did some fighting ... Do you get my drift regarding who some of these guys are?

I'm sure he knows why it's inappropriate. I'm also sure that this is a "shout out" to all the older people who still think "those people" are "taking over or stepping out of their place". A vote for Biden (a nice old white guy) will be a vote for your nice white neighborhood to be put in danger. Biden will let "those people" live where ever they want - he will HELP them with laws and regulations to live where ever they want. My dad use to rant and rave (ok, it was drunken ranting/raving but he'd still say stuff (less loudly) when sober-ish) about how the blacks were going to take over - how he would be replaced by a lazy, know nothing black man who would be paid more. how once "those people" moved into the neighborhood - it wouldn't be safe and property values would fall! and all sorts of other bad stuff. (oddly enough - it was the 2nd and 3rd generation mexicans/hispanics business owners/high paying corporate workers who moved in and took over the neighborhood.) the GOP has been releasing all sorts of stuff that takes stabs at their opponents using negative stereotypes and slurs and name calling. Such a classy way to campaign.

he tried to excuse it thusly:
1) has everyone lost their sense of humor? 2) this is an election year!
my replies:
1) yes. it was never funny, and we are no longer pretending. 2) I hope you are running.

Trump has already claimed that Biden will destroy the Bible and do away with religion! I’m assuming there will be cultists that believe that,

Not a single person I know that is born during the Boomer years feels this way, but my knowledge is slanted towards the end of the Boom and Midwest and East folks. My Mom, if she was still living, wouldn't care. Not a Boomer. Maybe my family was unusual, but not for where I grew up. We were and are pro good people are good people no matter what. My youngest sib was a champion of several gay friends in the early 70s if not earlier. I've been called the N word, but I have never used it on anyone. Sadly we only had one black family in our school system growing up, but they were well liked and considered cool. Race, gender, divorces, etc. were not big deals in my family then or now. I can't imagine not watching something based on the race of the actors. I'd have to give up lots of foreign films, Tyler Perry films, etc. Glad I did not grow up in your world.

If he selects her who will you be voting for? It’s not the time for anyone to do anything but vote for Joe, especially in those key states. So put away the picky, picky, picky and get the orange nightmare outta here.

I am older then many, I remember hearing all the racists stuff being born in 1946.
When we went to the city one time, I think DD was maybe 3 or 4. I didn't realize she had not seen people of color. We got on an elevator and there was a black lady on it too. She said mommy that lady is black, she was in awe. I was mortified. I apologized, well DD is mentally challenged and the lady was so nice, she said oh honey, that's ok, yes, I am black. She was so very gracious, I was still embarrassed to death. That's how isolated we were around here. I had a talk with DD, she just didn't know and sometimes would blurt things out as she had no filter.
Hubs didn't want to move around a city, to many drugs, just knew son would get on them. He did fine and is fine and got away from this bigoted area. He has friends from the military of all colors and nationalities. And grandson is being raised that way too, they also make sure he is aware of disabilities and handicaps because of DD. It makes me feel good about the future as many parents are raising their kids this way. I know we still have a lot that don't, but its getting better then it was when I was growing up..

My kids are 100% fine with anyone. Success! in 1989, I was taking a computer class in San Francisco. the receptionist was an attractive black lady. I asked her out on a date. when I told my dad about it, his reaction was horrifying. I never really knew he was a racist before then, but I had kinda guessed it. he used to say shit like "I have nothing against a well mannered, well dressed black person". in retrospect, that was code for "a black person who behaves like a white person".
we never got along the same after that. our relationship was more "professional". I never really saw him as a guiding force in my life again. and I started questioning everything he told me about people after that.
he was originally from Ohio, and raised in Long Beach, for those that are interested. his mom was a strict Catholic, and his dad worked for the city.

I hold quite a few investments that are opposed to my political views. I can justify that at a number of levels. and maybe the American Public is not ready for that discussion, but it is one worth having.
I find Rice to be a very measured, intelligent and capable person. I think she would make an excellent choice for VP.

“voters don’t want folks who have strong financial ties and backgrounds in corporate business running their government,”
voters need to understand the difference between "investment" and "strong business ties".
I don't see "strong business ties" when someone has 0.4-0.8% of their investments in the Keystone Pipeline. she could simply divest from these projects before assuming her role (she SHOULD do that, btw. i agree that maintaining these investments AS VP would be a conflict of interest).
this makes progressives look anti-capitalist. and if that is the case, then they really need to get their heads straight. they are never going to find ANYONE other than a hobo to run for office if that is their standard.

I can't vote for Biden if he chooses Bass...just no way. Way too far from my beliefs to have someone like her one heart-beat from being President.
I would hold my nose & vote for him if he chooses Rice. She is intelligent & has ethics IMHO, but I still don't like the investment part.

Upon this rock I will build my church! Not Martin Luther or Henry VIII. Peter... Although I must add that the Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t come around here any more. They didn’t like that I asked them why they bailed on the one true church of Jesus Christ.😎

I’m assuming there will be cultists that believe that, Many Protestants around here think Catholics aren’t really Christians. Trump is dog whistling the evangelicals. What Trump's presidency has taught me is most of the RW evangelicals aren't Christians either. Apparently these "Christians" really only care about certain judgy bits of the Old Testament. Hate gays, no sex before marriage, and apparently act like an entitled Pharisee. Lots of Christian denominations but apparently not many actually follow Christ's teachings. What Trump probably means is Biden will erode your false sense of being top dog.
