I mean the logistics of it? How would they stop teens from accessing the Tik Tok app?

I mean China does it easily so it's totally possible. Though they'd need to man handle the ISPs into complying. Probably not as hard as you'd think.

Why does Trump want to ban it? Because Tic Tok was the app that was used to get the message out for everyone to reserve tickets to his Tulsa rally. As a resort, he and his campaign thought they were looking at a crowd of a million. He got 6000. He is a vindictive bastard like that.

On his axios interview he repeats multiple times that there were 12,000. He just can’t help himself when it comes to lying about attendance.

He can ban Tik Tok but the tech savvy youth will just move onto another platform. He likes to think himself an awesome social media genius but he's really just like my grandma. Trying to ban social media sites will be like playing whack-a-mole. Even China isn't 100% effective at keeping it out of the country.

I thought the people in China just used a vpn to access the forbidden sites. I would expect our kids to do the same.

China owns/controls all the hard equipment in their country so they can catch an app that way. That isn't the case in the US. Exactly HOW would he ban an app?

For him that’s barely fudging.

Trying to ban social media sites will be like playing whack-a-mole. Even China isn't 100% effective at keeping it out of the country. My son says that the kids are already moving on to better platforms. He did not elaborate if they were better because of technical and features, or just the content is better because us oldies aren't there. There is a lot of political talk there. I have gone looking for Pro-Trump and Pro-Conservative content. I'm not finding a lot of highly followed users in the genre, but that could be my algorithm. There is a lot of funny posts making fun of Trump, supporting masks and talking about schools, LGBTQ rights, BLM, etc, so I watch those. But all the conservative stuff I have found is not very compelling. At best, it is dry. At worst, it is a middle aged fat person spouting anger and hatred, and maybe they say something funny, but I don't get the jokes. It is usually just something like "those damn liberals think this nerdy scientist can save us. This guy couldn't even lift a crow bar." Followed by uproarious laughter. Not real clever. There is a fair amount of that on the left too. Like that girl who just mouths Trump's words. Not sure why she is "hilarious". ******* More importantly.....China is certainly the best at spying on individuals, so I don't want to blow off the possibility that they could use the app for nefarious purposes. But tech magazines don't seem to have any proof, or even viable theories on what China is doing. Either it isn't happening or they are so good, we can't even imagine their crime. I am very uncomfortable with banning a platform for free expression. I am also very uncomfortable that the US President is threatening a foreign corporation to pressure them into selling themselves to a private corporation. Maybe it happens regularly - just quietly? Either way - horrendous. I feel like we are crossing all kinds of lines here. If there were some proof that China is doing something, I would be quick to believe it, as I believe the Chinese government to be untrustworthy. But I need more than vague accusations that appear politically motivated to jump on the anti-Tiktok band wagon.

That was my immediate reaction too - Like it is un-American for Government to meddle in business.

They also posted live video of the protests, and I'm sure they were favorable to the protestors and unfavorable to the feds.
