While not quite the same..there are a few of us working our rears off at work, for at best a 3% pay cut. No raises for us have been the norm for over a decade.

Chloe. I understand your frustration but your DH is a good guy.

It's incredibly frustrating and okay to vent, but it's also good to be married to someone who thinks of others right now.
I'm at a not-for-profit and though promotions are on hold for right now (personal aside: fuuuuuucccckkkkkk!) I'm still happy I am working from home for the rest of the year, I'm getting paid my full salary, and my husband is also doing fine at work. I'm pissed my promotion is being pushed back but I'd much rather the financial stability of my employer be solid so I can continue to collect my paycheck. If I really want to look all rosy at it, I technically make an extra $6 each month since I don't have to pay taxes on my transportation benefit since I'm not going anywhere, lol.
I did forgo my council stipend for the remainder of the year. It's only $150 a month (local electeds don't do it for the money!) but it just doesn't feel right to collect my stipend now. Purely a feel good measure, I know.

Having experienced the "culture of complaining" - it might ease some of your discomfort to consider that perhaps many of the complainers are doing so because they feel it's the "script" or what they MUST say without really thinking about it. There are lots and lots of people who are so use to complaining/saying something negative about something good/in their favor that they do it for everything There's a good chance many of them are thankful/grateful for their job and raise (no matter how small) in the privacy of their own head (or home). The complaining is used to keep up appearances - because it's what's expected by their peers/relatives/friends/etc. There's a reason for all those reminders to practice gratitude (to make it a habit).

Second, I thought your husband was in education like you...maybe I just made that up in my head. I'm so glad I'm not the only who thought that. I could have sworn her husband was in education as well. And also, whine away, Chloe!

Yeah, I thought her husband was a school district administrator or something like that.
