With Opening Day of the baseball season approaching, the Washington Nationals have invited to throw out the first pitch of their home opener, an honor traditionally given to presidents (and had that offer accepted)...Anthony Fauci. The tradition was begun by William Howard Taft more than 100 years ago. Donald Trump will become, assuming he loses in November, the first president since Taft to not throw out a first pitch. Not terribly surprising he wouldn't want to do it even if he had been asked. The last time he was at the ballpark, while the Nationals were winning their first World Series and the city of Washington's first since 1933, he was greeted with chants of, "Lock him up! Lock him up!"

LOL! And Trump could have made it in the baseball pros (sarcasm). He is going to hate this.
Was there a reason that he wasn't invited last year orthe previous years? Outside the obvious.
ETA: Never mind, I read your entire post again. My bad.

Scary picture. Is trump catching the baseball or throwing the baseball. Either way, he looks scared to death of it. U.S. President Donald Trump catches a ball while hosting youth baseball players at the White House, on opening day for Major League Baseball, in Washington. REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque

Fauci's pitch went pretty wild, but the man is 79 years old.

Hey, at 79 y.o., Fauci did good to get the ball that close to home plate. Especially since he isn't a regular ball player who has practiced this all their life.

I have no doubt that if President Trump does actually show up to throw the pitch he will come much closer to the strike zone and will note it. If he is "unable to attend due to ...", we will know that practice did not go well.

I saw an interview of Dr. Fauci about this pitch. He was nervous about it. The announcer said not to worry about it because no one will be in the stands for crow response. I think he did a good job other than it was off center.
Dr. Fauci deserves some nice diversions. What a thankless job.

It was clearly socially distancing itself from the catcher. Good for it!

Trump backs out of throwing first pitch at Yankees gamePresident Trump announced Sunday he wouldn't be throwing out the opening pitch for the New York Yankees next month as he had planned, citing meetings and other work related to the U.S.'s COVID-19 outbreak. In a tweet, Trump said he would plan to throw out the first pitch at a game later in the MLB season, which began last week. "Because of my strong focus on the COVID-19, including scheduled meetings on Vaccines, our economy and much else, I won’t be able to be in New York to throw out the opening pitch for the @yankees on August 15th. We will make it later in the season!" he tweeted. Article here: Trump backs out of throwing first pitch at Yankees game

I've always wondered if he was actually invited by the Yankees. Also, he has said he doesn't want players to take a knee if he throws out the first pitch.

I hope he wasn't too stressed about having to do that. I hope it was more of a break from reality for him and that he knew it was an honor.

Bitch about Obama golfing for years, then golf even more than he did, at your own clubhouse where you can grift a bunch of money from the taxpayers by overcharging the SS guys who have to protect you. Such a total asshat.

Well what do you know - the Yankees never asked him in the first place. He lied yet again about something so easily verifiable. Who wudda thunk it?
