The last 6 weeks I've had instances where I shake almost uncontrollably especially in the last 1/2 of the day. Almost collapsed because of this during a recent Mass. Have a priest friend who has Parkinson's and has tried to give some clue to the symptoms......I think there is not a test for it, but more like MS where they try to negate other possibilities. Any advice is appreciated. Have regular "wellness visit" in a couple of days

Get an MRI. Don't forget you are old and it's hot and if you have to wear robes and stuff, that makes it hotter. DH used to get hot just being. Now he's always cold! Your doctor can give you a referral to a neurologist.

I am getting essential tremor, was noted by my neurologist, I assume they will send you to one also. I hope you are not, but as we age this type of thing can happen.
My best to you.

Of course a full medical workup is in order. Parkinsons is probably one of many possible things. It may be something more benign.

Also, ask the neuro about Carbidopa-Levodopa. It helps with the spasms. Shit for brains has 4 bottles sitting at home if you need any. He's supposed to take it for his restless legs but takes the baclofen first.

This eating plan is for MS. It will probably work for any and all ailments unless a person is allergic to greens. terrywahls.com/diet/

Terry Wahls and her partner are the parents of a young man who gave a speech to the Iowa Legislature about his two moms. He is all grown up now and is a member of the State Legislature.
Terry seems to be very active from the pictures he posts of her.

I have nothing beyond 'good luck and may the good lord take a likin' to ya' as my grandfather used to say! Sorry though, medical diagnostics by elimination is depressing and exhausting. Reach out if you need support. I've been there a few times....

I am a year and a half into trying to figure out what’s wrong with me. I’ve had multiple MRIs , spinal blocks , various shots , meds , PT (3times) , etc . I have many symptoms relating to MS . Have seen 2 neurologists and all they will say at this point is - I have extreme neuropathy throughout my body . Everything else is still up in the air .
Sorry , not trying to make this about me , just know whatever it is , if it’s anything, can take a long , frustrating , and tiring time .
Good luck & God bless . Good thoughts and prayers to you sir . 😊

It helps knowing that this will likely be a process, not expect immediate answers and could be a variety of things. In the meantime, if you see a youtube post of a priest face planting at the altar, likely will be me. lol 6'4.... so as the saying goes, the bigger they are....

Keep in mind, irishpad, you have had a lot on your plate these past 12 months. You could probably use some good down time.

That had to hurt.
Rick, a good friend of my Dad's was diagnosed with Parkinson's some time ago. I want to say he had a good 10 years where it was controlled and he was fine-ish. The last couple years of his life sucked though as he couldn't drive or do much for himself. I know Dad and Mom were visiting him weekly before he passed. Dad may have been taking him to the retirees coffee meeting while they were both able to maneuver Rick around. The funeral was both awful and amazing.

So sorry, irishpad! Don't give up. It could be a LOT of different things. Probably a lot less extreme, but I had to give up coffee in my 20's, because it was giving me the shakes. I switched to beverages with less caffeine. (Hey, I gotta be able to function in the morning, as I am NOT a morning person.) The problem was solved. With all of the crazy in the world, it could just be good old fashioned stress, too. So hang in there! We're rooting for you!

The good news is that Parkinson's patients have about the same life expectancy as those who don't. All the best to you.

Have you been more tired/stressed than usual? Are you getting enough sleep? Have you had your blood sugars tested? Hypoglycemia can give you the shakes. Here's hoping it's something simple.

weltschmerz When it happened the first time about 6 weeks ago they checked my blood sugars. Felt very much like hypoclycemia but blood sugars did test normal, no diabetes in the family. On the other side, as soon as I got some juice in me that time it resolved itself. Wisconsin Beth , the face plant hasn't happened yet, but just saying it might. lol I could be a youtube star!

We play tennis with a man who has Parkinsons. It's been a long road but he is better.
I told him we should be thankful to be retired. He replied quality of life retirement.

I am also hypoglycemic, I get the shakes, test my glucose and its 104 or in the 80's. Still like you said orange juice seems to help.
I'm sure a neurologist can help you, I don't get positive answers from some of my issues, so just keep trying to find and deal with them. Hope you can get a diagnosis.

My grandmother had Parkinson's and they controlled it with meds for a very long time. She was diagnosed when she was in her 60s and died around 85, so it is something that can be managed. Most important thing is to get yourself diagnosed first, it can be a dozen different things.

So just a brief update. Will start to do some testing, starting with vertigo, may MRI later if necessary. I may have been freaking a bit since a couple of good friends have Parkinson's. Again, thanks for all the good advice and if it is Parkinson's, so be it

Dizziness can also be caused by an inner ear infection - I have fallen a couple times when I did not know that.

Vertigo can be treated multiple ways. There's meclizine and there are movements you can do to get the crystals to move. Most vertigo is caused by crystals in the ear. If you like down on your sides for a few minutes then flip over to the other side. That's what Dingleberry is supposed to do but he almost throws up if he has to lie/lay (whatever!) down.
