It's just so easy to dismiss everything as everyone is lying, but there are some telling the truth. Only problem is: figuring out who that is takes work. And it takes more work to understand the depth of their knowledge, to understand the nuance involved. That's way too much work for those who want to operate by short, snappy narratives and feels.

And you know what? It is too much work to do this for everything. But, if you find yourself saying everything and everyone sucks in some area, then it's imperative upon yourself to do that work in finding the truth there. Or not, and risk suffering the consequences.

True, but it is even more than that. Right now, it seems to be, if someone says something that i like, they are telling the truth. if I do not like t or agree with it, they are lying. We are often in the position where we need to give people news they do not like. They can chose to listen or not. But when all you want is an echo chamber, you will be lead down a bad path. Being willing to consider a contrary viewpoint is important, and n a democracy, necessary, if things are going to improve. We seem to have forgotten that

I would like to see this, fire him. Have the guts to do it. Fauci will have another position if he wants it in about 15 minutes. He will then be free to say what he really thinks, allow he has too much class to do it. Something Trump and his followers do not understand.

Trashing her for a vote that is way in the past is not the way to win converts. I thought Trump would be an awful President but in 2016, I had no idea a pandemic would emerge in the US in 2020. People who voted for Trump in 2016 and disagree with how he's handled the pandemic are likely going to be voting against their preferred interests if they are conservative. Its not going to be easy to do, so I personally do not want to make it any harder.

What I can't understand is why people can't be republicans and come right out and say trump is and has been a disaster as a president.  It's like having cockroaches--there's no shame in having them; there's shame in doing nothing about them.

I also can't understand why trump supporters insist that we all have to respect him because he's the president. No. We don't. I have all the respect in the world for the office of president. The person who is president has to earn respect. trump has not earned that respect, and anybody who insists that he has is no better than he is.

They were.  They nominated an intelligent, hard-working person who actually cares about this country AND its people.  I have said all along that she was a flawed candidate.  She was not at all an inspiring speaker or leader, but she would have been the most informed, hardest-working person in that office in a very long time, with a great deal of experience both as a senator and Secretary of State, and also as a very involved First Lady.  Her biggest flaw for progressive Democrats was that she was not Bernie.  Her biggest flaw for Republican voters is that she was married to Bill, who was himself a FAR better president than anyone the Republican Party has put up in decades.  

It is difficult to excuse those who voted for Trump in 2016.  It was obvious to anyone with their eyes open that he would be the worst president in at least a century, if not ever.  He reached that mark very early on.  It is IMPOSSIBLE to excuse anyone who still supports him.  They have to be either mind-numbingly stupid, horribly cynical hyperpartisans, racist/white supremacist, or corrupt.  Any combination of those is also possible.  No thinking person who puts this country first supports that worthless, vile, dishonest, fat-assed little f***.

I don’t excuse anyone who voted for trump. They share responsibility for the 130,000 plus deaths - many of those who died would still be alive if we’d had competent leadership.

My county, San Mateo, is doing o.k. but I still see a lot of stupid going on. I hike locally nearly every day. There are a lot of people who are not wearing masks with the highest proportion being youngish men (< 40) maskless and riding mountain bikes. I don't want them breathing on me (who wears a N95) when they blow by!

Part of the problem is the mask is "recommended" when exercising outdoors...and no enforcement. I nearly lost it when some unmasked jerk drove his mountain bike through a small group of masked hikers. He looked about 35, not some young kid. Smiling as people yelled at him.

I was talking at a national level. Because, even if your governor is responsible, the proportion of people who support the president do not believe this is an issues. So, if there was consensus, and following science, we would not be where we are today.
