What next-New Mexico? Trump mulled selling Puerto Rico, former aide saysPresident Trump mulled selling Puerto Rico as the territory struggled in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in 2017, former acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke told The New York Times. Duke, who served in the role for four months, told the Times on Friday that she was shocked when the president raised the suggestion of "divesting" or "selling" Puerto Rico. "The president's initial ideas were more of as a businessman, you know," she said. "Can we outsource the electricity? Can we ... sell the island? You know, or divest of that asset?" The newspaper noted that Duke said the idea of selling of Puerto Rico was "never seriously considered or discussed" after Trump proposed it. Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico in September 2017, leading to almost 3,000 deaths related to the storm or its aftereffects, including months-long power outages. Trump and Puerto Rican officials blamed each other amid the island's recovery, with the president faulting local officials for their management of relief funds. San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz criticized the administration for the delay in federal response to hurricane recovery, prompting the president to target Cruz in several tweets, and call her "incompetent." This is just a great example of the challenge of an individual going from a lifetime of playing by one set of rules to a role in which he has to play by different rules. It would surprise me if Eisenhower's aides didn't have to remind him a few times he couldn't just issue orders.

He could just sell off all the blue states...Emperor for Life. The blue states probably wouldn't mind. They're the ones subsidizing the red states, anyway.

Frankly I'm astonished he knew Puerto Rico was part of the US to begin with.
I guess when Congress sent them hurricane relief someone told him why

Frankly I'm astonished he knew Puerto Rico was part of the US to begin with. I guess when Congress sent them hurricane relief someone told him why trump didn't know he was the president of the U.S. Virgin Islands. In October 2017, trump said he "met with the president of the Virgin Islands."

So if Florida takes a pounding from a hurricane, does it get sold to Cuba? And where does that leave him, since he is now a legal resident of the state? Or maybe if just the Keys/Monroe and Miami-Dade counties get hit, he'll bring in the big earth moving machines and cut those counties loose from the mainland. Let them float over in a reverse Mariel flotilla. Honestly, if ever there was a humanoid representation for the phrase "dumb as a box of rocks," he would fit the bill perfectly. No words needed in the old Funk and Wagnall's, either. Just his picture would work.

Florida is ok to bail out because he needs clear roads to maralago and people there to serve him and there's enough old white people there to make him care.

Do we have an extradition agreement with Cuba? If not Floridians better start paying attention.

It’s a bitch for him that Covid has hit Florida so hard, because you are right, he can’t win without Florida, and the latest polls are showing Florida may not be happy with Trump clicking his ruby slippers together and trying to wish away the virus.

the latest polls for him there are quite literally awful.
here is the part that I would be worried about if I were him: I can't think of ANYTHING he can do about it.
he needs the state to recover economically AND get a handle on CV19 in four months, and I think that is literally an impossible straddle.

He could try taking the situation seriously and attempt to make it better. A big ask I know, but someone who was serious about winning would try that. The longer he waits, the more impossible it becomes

I think we found out today what he's going to try to do - blame Covid on Faucci. "If I had better advice from Faucci and the CDC we would have nipped this in the bud! They wanted to make me look bad!' Will say the perpetual victim in the oval office. Hopefully, that shit's gotten old for enough Americans to vote him out.

1) the CDC conveys facts that make Trump look bad. that is pretty funny. 2) the CDC doesn't WANT to make Trump look bad. he just does.

He wants to use Fauci as a scapegoat even though as the man in charge it was up to him to make or not make decisions. Which he did. He chose hope over science and reality. He chose the economy over almost everything else when he did take action.

Someone pointed out on FB that the gopers were all distressed about the Obamacare death squads killing grandma until Covid came along and grannies became a speed bump for the economy.
