Hey...........! I'm a psych nurse. And thank god people do it. I can’t. The great thing about medicine is there is a place for medicine. I could possibly give her a pass if she was a psych nurse, as it may have been a long time since she did anything with respiratory or critically ill patients. Was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. But you are all crazy, lol Ever since doing my rotation at the Douglas Hospital, I knew that psychiatry was the only thing I really wanted to do. Imagine my joy when I was accepted on an acute psychiatry floor at a major teaching hospital. It can be a thankless job...Dominic, who was doing so well, went off his meds and took an hammer to his mother. Little Freddie, a schizophrenic who was the sweetest man, making beautiful soapstone carvings to give to the staff. He was doing great until he went off his meds and went back to his village in the north. He was killed by the villagers for being possessed. Louisa, who went off her meds and drowned both her little children in the bathtub. Angels told her to do that. They always go off their meds. it takes something out of you, yanno?

Oh and the girl arguing against masks with me... is a nurse. The things she is spouting... Maybe we all deserve this. How did we allow public education to devolve to this level. I keep asking myself how we got so dang dumb. Did they all fail science?

Well today, we had someone drop off a young women in front of the ED in full cardiac arrest and took off. Who does that. I hate people. I understand entirely. We all have our trials and tribulations, no matter here we land in the field. We also have our revolving door of alcoholics and noncompliant ones, so I understand completely

I keep asking myself how we got so dang dumb. Did they all fail science? I hated science. In my classes, I did just enough to stay out of trouble for bad grades. But I’m no dummy. I’m smart enough to know that it’s probably in my best interests to listen to people who have studied science and can make sense out of things I know nothing or very little about, especially if they are knowledgeable enough to be considered experts in their fields, and especially if what they’ve studied and learned is pertinent to my life.... my health and well being.

I meant to add that I hate wearing masks, for reasons that don’t even really matter. But I wear them.
I’m not even fully convinced that the cloth and homemade masks do any good. I wear them anyway.

People who don't want to answer questions but are at least responsible enough to give a person a shot to get their life saved. Odds are it was a Covid party or a drug one. This is at least a step up from I think a 35 yr old Ohio man who stuffed a dead 21 yr old woman in a barrel. He alleges she hung herself in his basement during a party.

I don't think so... This is the sign on the local store she was telling me is 'true' ... and that masks don't do anything and any number of things like we can't get a vaccine and we need herd immunity and people only die of other causes and the numbers don't add up for coronavirus... You must live in a rural area with low population density. I think its hard for some people in areas like these to acknowledge a pandemic does exist and they have been largely protected by their location and low population density. I would stress this is not a flu, its July and its still here for one. Second, have her name one flu that America conquered by herd immunity. Ask her to explain in nursing terms why we don't have herd immunity after all this time against the common cold. Then I'd hit her in her beliefs. (Or skip the rest and just do this.) If you believe its not that bad and we need herd immunity, where are you going to be exposed to help our area get herd immunity?

I realize that, there are just some times I hate my job and people. The lack of humanity at times is incredibly depressing. In my specialty we see both the best and worst of people. Just so happens, at this point, we need to see more of the best given current circumstances. Walking into something like that is just difficult in the best of circumstances, and we are far from those.

But to have a drive by and have ayoung women who is likely to die because they didn't do the right thing, in our current circumstances as just too much yesterday. Need something positive to happen today to even it out.

I watched a documentary following a female Italian Doctor at the height of their Northern pandemic. It was relentlessly bleak....... Day after day of desperately ill people in sealed wards. Colleagues going sick. Not enough beds...choosing who gets the ventilators. If we don't know what has been happening....... We should do. Might serve to make people a bit more focussed.

Getting back to the original post ..... I wear a mask when I'm either at work or a public area. Have since the first one I received at work at the beginning of this.
Now that Trump has his picture taken with a mask on, maybe we'll see Nancy with a mask covering her mouth and nose. I've seen pictures with her mask covering her chin and neck but not her mouth and nose.

She has been wearing a mask for montyhs. Nice try, but Trump is still the problem. Since he can't fix it, now he is going after Fauci.

Trump needs accolades and a laurel wreath because he wore a mask ONCE! Everyone else has been wearing them for 4 months.

It is my understanding that the value of mask wearing it to decrease the opportunity for virus to get into the air from an infected person. With that, there is a decreasing difference in the amount of discharge when an infected person coughs, yells, sings, talks, breathes. Therefore if we can at best get some individuals to wear them over their mouths, are we not ahead in the game over them not wearing one at all?

Half a loaf is better than none? I suspect wearing it that way is a start, and is probably better than nothing. But again, would you want to be in the room at a close distance with someone wearing it that way?

There are times it feels like all you deal with are difficult people and situations in my specialty.
