I've thrown out or given away thousands of dollars of gym equipment in the past 25 years. Most of it barely used. We still have a couple of rusty weights that we use to pin down the sheet we hang when we do dive in theater.

I was very diligent over 10 years ago and lost 40 pounds running on the treadmill. I have kept 20 of it off and regained 20. I need to go down, and get serious about using it. But until the house is done which will happen this month I just don't have the leftover energy. I know always some excuse, also canning, etc.
But I will, the hard running I used to do is out, but I can walk at a steady rate safely I think. Of course you will need a big screen TV or pluto and Sirius for music. I get mine on and go for it. I wish I could leave out all the cooking I have to do. That and exercise would have me in good shape in no time.
but as our pres says, " it is what it is". No for either of us its because of inaction.

Annoyed....
When I moved out here, I had a small assortment of gym equipment. I had a set of 3, 5 and 8 lb hand weights, a ball, a balance mat, exercise cords with handles, a yoga mat and a few more things. When my PT stopped in March, I went looking for my small stash of exercise equipment, only to discover TD had given it away.
The more that I think about it, the more annoyed I get. I don’t throw out his stuff! I found my stack of Cook’s Illustrated in recycling that I needed to rescue. Luckily, I saw the, before they got hauled away.

Since our house is so small, we have been floating the idea of adding another storage building to use as a gym, (for me, doubt DH would use it). My dad can run electricity to it and do the wiring, but $3000-$5000 seems like a bit much just for that usage. If we happen to get another stimulus payment though, I might feel more comfortable.

I was able to return to the gym yesterday. Not because they are open, but because I became part owner last week so now I can go work out whenever I want. It’s still not open to the public, but they can’t prevent the owners from going in. Most of the time I will be the only one there.

We are also creating a home gym -- does anyone here have a nordictrack freestride (any model)? They are pricey, but great reviews online. I would just like to hear a review from someonone "real"

I'm really missing the elliptical at my gym (which is still closed by my governor, and I would avoid even if it were open). I'm not a runner at all, but the elliptical is easy enough on my knees, that it was helping a lot with building up my endurance.
I found a cheap elliptical on sale, but I'm afraid it's not going to work for my leggy 6-4 DH. I'm afraid I'll have to spend an arm and a leg to get something that will work for both of us. *Le sigh*

My spin bike arrived on Saturday. Well worth the cost already. I love having a cardio option at home besides either running or walking outside. And we suspended our gym memberships for the next 3 months at least so it’s nice to have a decent home option. Not a full fledged home gym, but good enough for me.

Here we go. This was the back half of our completely unfinished garage. I’ve not received the final bill yet, but I believe it’s between $15K - $20K. It’s not finished, but it’s functional. Today was day three of being able to use it. Obviously the windows still need to go in. The trim needs installed, and there are a few smaller tasks.

Just have a recumbent bike, some light weights for bicep curl and a floor pad for sit ups and push ups. Prior Covid I went to the Y 3 days a week primarily for weight lifting. Trying to stay in muscle shape through the push ups and curls but I know it is not as good. Will have to renew when Covid is over It's going to be a major pain (as in sore muscles!)

I am flabbergasted by the lack of YM judgement at spending that kind of money! I don't know if I should feel ignored or revered.

I would just like to hear a review from someonone "real" How did I not respond to this before? I'm sure you've already made a decision by now, but: Yes, see mine in the picture below. I chose to spend the extra money because I specifically wanted the freestride option. It's wonky on connecting with the internet, but that's because we didn't have internet in our garage. We were using the WiFi from the house which is about 20 yards away. We bought a tv for the "garage gym" and are having a separate cable and internet line installed there.

No judgement, it's awesome that you have the resources and can put them to good use, but I've been so proud of my slowly growing savings and this just serves as a reminder of how quickly it can be spent on house projects.

We considered this route--buying a pre-made storage building and having it put on a portion of our property. However, we didn't go that route because we couldn't find one that was tall enough. When you take into account the height of an elliptical and then put the taller of the human beings on it, we needed at least nine-foot ceilings.

Its hard to judge or flame this year. The one year where spending that kind of money on a home gym is reasonable.
I need to get some space figured out myself.

The house has a old, unfinished basement. Some storage, washer and dryer there, furnace. Space enough for that little bit of exercise equipment

I saw the post and just thought I will never understand indoor exercising people. Find trail and carry rocks. Best workout ever. Free and gives me pretty landscaping rocks. That kind of cash would buy a lot of gas or a nice, used 4WD rig. But, as long as you aren't stuffing the lobster in your Coach purse and paying with food stamps before loading it into your Cadillac, it's all YM approved.

Choices get limited when you have allergies and asthma. Plus there is this thing called winter here. I'm not trying to slip on ice. I've done plenty of walking outside since we've been home. But now I need something else as winter comes.

I have a “yoga” room. That’s it. If I ever buy dining room furniture, I won’t have a yoga room. The table and chairs in the breakfast nook are fine for now, we’re not hosting big dinners anyway, due to stupid COVID.
I would like a home gym, but have nowhere to put it right now. I like the serenity and uncluttered feel of my yoga room, and all the other rooms are currently being used for something else.

But, as long as you aren't stuffing the lobster in your Coach purse and paying with food stamps before loading it into your Cadillac, it's all YM approved. My Planet Fitness membership costs me $10/month plus a $42 annual fee. I could have the basic membership for the annual fee only, with my Medicare supplement provider picking up the $10, but I chose the $20 membership (offset by $10 from the insurance company) so I can use them wherever I am. Even when I'm home there are a few in this area that may be closer to where I'm running errands. I have a very good treadmill and used it all winter; set it at a steep angle and did a very brisk walk for an hour. By the end of the winter I had numbness in my toes- likely tarsal tunnel syndrome. It's alleviated somewhat but I really feel it when I walk barefoot on a hard surface and I hate that. I LOVE walking barefoot. So if PF closes again I'm not sure what I'll do. I don't do cold well- low body fat- and, as wvugirl pointed out, there's ice. I may buy a training stand for my bike. I have a very good bike and it would be a heck of a lot cheaper than a Peloton. As for the expense- exercise is very cheap prevention. My a1c, which was 6.0 5 years ago (ALMOST diabetic) is now down to 5.3 as of yesterday. No med or docs involved. That's priceless.

I've never been on so many hikes in my life as I have been the last 6 months, but I have to drag the kids along if my DH isn't home, and now it's getting dark by 6 pm, so it's not as feasible now. Plus, the weather took a turn to cold and windy, which I hate, nevermind the rain on my glasses. Exercising at home is just so much more convenient.

We turned 1 of our bedrooms into a home gym about 2.5 months ago. I use it in the morning before I work (most days of the week) as it’s much more convenient than going to a gym. DH will be using it too. We have a bike, elliptical, treadmill and strength training machine. The treadmill and strength training machine also have an iFit subscription that’s good for 2 years. I use the treadmill more than anything.
Also, if it’s raining outside or freezing cold or blazing hot outside, I can me in my temperature controlled home than in the elements. It works for us.

Sure, but if you work full time (and more) with normal hours it means the trails are pretty darn busy on the few daylight hours available to use them. Dh can take the kids all over during the week but I can't very well join in. I'm really trying to take a break each day so we can get in a 2nd walk but its hard enough to put off start time until 8am so we can get the first walk in, the 2nd one is closer to a pipe dream for me. Realistically if I want to stay active this winter I need something at home that can be done well after dark.

I am turning an unused BR into a gym. I FINALLY found a weight set that I'll be snatching up. I am also on the hunt for a treadmill.

I have been mulling this about for a few months. We have a room downstairs where we have a weight gym (not individual weights but attached to a system). We have a recumbent bike in the LR left over from my rehab. The room the weights is in has been used as a junk room since we painted, I’d like to see us getting the bike downstairs, clearing out the room, hanging up a TV on the wall and a place to keep the massage table up (I can’t get up off the floor, so I use it to exercise on). A few more additions, and we’d be good.
