They weren't taken in by the lies. Trump was the only one supporting white supremacy. He still is. His supporters don't really care about much else. I agree, they had 8 years of getting their gut full of a black President. I'm sorry, it took me a long time to really admit how much Trump's base despised President Obama because he was black. How else could you justify their support of a candidate like Donald Trump? They elected a loud mouth New Yorker to stick it to the liberals, they didn't care what happened to the country. I'm mean, really, Donald Trump.....never really had any policies, they changed like the wind. Oh, and his big brag about the economy....who wouldn't be having a great economy if they were spending $1T more than they were taking in? The Republican party is nothing but a bunch of lies...and liars. The party that would spend one dime when the financial system melted down because they were busy trying to make President Obama a one term president, they spent $3T due to the virus. Not realizing that Trump himself was a liberal until he decided he could get more people to love him as a conservative.

I remember some woman commenting, after trump got elected, that we would finally have a classy woman as flotus again. That’s when I realized trump’s appeal to the racists- if you can look at the arm puppet Melanie is, with her soft porn background and self centered life style, and think she is classier than Michelle Obama, with her education, work history and philanthropy , you’re looking through white supremist glasses.

When you think ‘God chose him’ ... you can’t give up without serious introspection... of which many of them are not capable... Cognitive dissonance hurts! Like, really hurts! I read some accounts from people who left their various high-demand religions and for some of them, it was as if their lives shattered, they lost their footing and worldview along with their families/spouses/parent/children who renounced them. That hurts and you would be hard pressed to find a lot of people who would want to go through that pain.

But likely - they would be mean if you tried to 'leave the fold' as it were.

I remember the exact moment I realized it. it was when THIS study came out:
www.asc.upenn.edu/news-events/news/fear-losing-status-not-economic-hardship-drove-voters-2016-presidential-election
after I read that study, everything made sense. all of that crazy, irrational behavior, and the knowing smiles while the leadership and rank and file lied about it- it is all tied to this one thing. you can even read it on this board. when people complain about welfare queens, that is what motivates it.
it is sad that we got to this point, but when a limb becomes infected enough there is really only one way to save the rest of the body- amputation.

Jeff Sessions sums it up, they were not taken in by lies, this is what they want. The yearning for order, and for ordering minorities, in particular, courses throughout Sessions’s worldview.
The yearning for a strongman doesn’t necessarily end with religious issues. Sessions also mused on his childhood in Camden, Alabama. “It was an idyllic period,” he said. “Sort of a window. End of an age.” His memory is that things were “ordered and disciplined,” Plott writes.
Of course, the idyll depends on who is living it, as does the judgment of whether the dying age was good or bad; some people get to enjoy order, while others bear the brunt of discipline. Sessions’s childhood came during the waning days of Jim Crow, in a deeply segregated community where African Americans were starving, disenfranchised, and physically threatened. For this minority, a group that experienced genuine, rather than merely perceived, discrimination, there was neither freedom nor democracy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/06/why-christians-support-trump/613669/

it is not hard to see the nostalgia that Sessions pines over for what it is.

I'm sure there are, based on posts on this board I've seen, people who just want to watch the world descend into anarchy rather than have a federal government. Trump was a sure fire way to achieve that.

the question then becomes, what kind of a system do they propose?
and I think an oligarchy is what they have in mind.

Has anyone listened to Slate's podcast about David Duke? There are so many parallels between David Duke and Trump. They both advocate clearly racist policies. They both talk about how they are the victims of others and the media.
The Trump's racism is a feature to his fans, not a bug. They like the racism. And to be honest, like David Duke (who also got the labeled as being telling it like it is), Trump has just embraced parts of the republican party that has been present for for the last 50 years. Republicans have pushed a lot of racist policies. Trump just says the unspoken stuff out loud. I mean if you support the party because you like the racism, then you weren't taken in by lies.

I don't think that most racists recognize their racism tho. but when their leaders say clearly racist things, they feel better. THAT they know.

When one starts a conversation or a reply with "I am not a racist", you are probably a racist.

tried to do my part this morning. challenged my mother on "need to reopen for the economy" and the virus not being that serious, low death rate, etc. When she slips political or conspiracy theories into the conversation, it's just "conversation". When I counter with facts, I'm being political and let's not talk politics.
