because there's no need for this sort of work, not like they were already behind in a backlog or anything.

Does anyone see a problem with Idiot claiming Covid is nothing while using it as an excuse to stop any immigration? Actually he stated Covid is over, it is a done deal. Have not spoken to any of his health officials (including Dr Fauci) in over 2.5 weeks per their official statements The President thinks Covid is human: if I ignore it; it will get the memo and go away. Covid standing around the corner: think again biatch!!! Same way he thinks it is a political opponent so if I offend it by calling or “Kung Fu” then I would have won. www.google.com/amp/s/www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles/2020-06-23/fauci-says-u-s-plans-to-step-up-testing-as-virus-cases-rise

Before this is over, a lot of federal employees will be furloughed. I didn't realize Immigration was funded by what it earns.
Nephew and niece-in-law are on hold for their move to Toronto because baby's passport has not arrived and they were told there will be no email notification when it is sent and there is no way to track where it is in the process. All they know is the application was received.

You think his followers are smart enough to recognize the contradiction? They just like he is hurting brown people and keeping Merica white No I know he appeals to white supremacists. I am counting on 2 things; that anti racists out number them and that anti racists are motivated to actually work at stopping them. I'm still worried about voting booth fraud, and/or mail in voter fraud letting him steal the presidency again.

However, they have cleverly made large swaths of the non-white population unable to vote, so white-white people still own politics. And unfortunately, even people who may not be racists are still locked in for that whole abortion thing.

The point I am focused on is that he's using it as an excuse to block immigration... Because he's a racist and will use anything as an excuse to block immigration. It's what his whole campaign was centered on.

It's what his whole campaign was centered on. Exactly. And his fans love that about him. The racism is a feature to them, not a bug. But, I feel bad for those people who are doing international adoptions, because any furloughs will delay that process even more, especially as so many adoptions have basically stood still while countries have shut down to slow the spread.

Since there are lots of Americans at all skill levels who are out of work, it makes sense not to bring in more people. And yes, they have made exceptions for medical professionals. I know you don’t like trump, but this really shouldn’t be that controversial.

He has no desire to fix the issue, but to pander to his racist base. That's why it is controversial. Also, he is either trying to change the subject from what he should be focusing on(and what he has screwed up royally), or sneak it under the radar.

So again, if Obama had done this without fixing everything that was wrong with the immigration system, you would be totally on board with it. And since when does protecting Americans from long-term unemployment make someone a racist? I work in a town that has a huge tech sector, and had a red heart economy before coronavirus hit Right now, plenty of people are out of work, because the companies they used to work for aren’t making enough money to keep them. And you want to keep them out of work longer, so these companies can bring in the H1B visa’s and get away with treating them like trash. When I was repeatedly brutally abused and worked to death at a job, I could leave, but my brilliant coworker on an h1-b visa couldn’t for years. Who the hell do you think that dysfunctional cesspool of a company is going to wanna hire now? I’m old enough to remember when suggesting anybody could lose their welfare benefits for any reason would get you accused of racism. Then a charismatic Democrat sign the welfare reform law and you guys were mostly OK with it. The hypocrisy is astounding.

But if Obama had done the same thing under the same circumstances, you wouldn’t have a problem with it at all. How many of your own countrymen do you plan on screwing over because you don’t like the president? I know plenty of good smart people who have lost their jobs due to the Covid recession, and if we keep bringing in H1B visa’s like nothing ever happened, they’re going to stay unemployed for a good long time. And it won’t be because they don’t have the skills. It’ll be because companies can’t get away with giving H1B visa holders lower pay and abusive working conditions.

And do you really think a Republican Congress was going to pass any sort of immigration reform? Come on now

And the republicans followed suit. McConnell has no interest in bailing out the blue states remember? Interesting to see what happens when the pandemic blows a hole in state budgets in the south

People like you are the reason Trump is in the White House. I know a lot of good, smart, hard-working people who have lost their jobs due to the Covid recession. Tech people work in every industry imaginable. So if one section of the economy grinds to a halt, they get the boot, like everybody else who worked there. I’m sure they’re quite relieved that the president isn’t going to make it even harder for them to get a new job by bringing in a bunch of H1B visa’s that we don’t need right now.

The president is a racist, plain and simple. You think he cares about any of the people you are talking about? He only cares about himself. He is doing this because when all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail. He is doing this to rile up his base, plain and simple. Look at all the tech companies that immigrants have started in this country. Trump just shut off that pipeline, and he will do long term damage to innovation in this country. Immigrants will look elsewhere and start these companies elsewhere, further degrading our technological edge. The strength of this country was having people from all over willing to take a risk to get here and make a better life. But continue to tell yourself that trump cares. He then enriches himself while you are fooled

It didn't happen under Obama and never will happen under Obama. So stop with that ridiculous argument. The out of work IT programmer picking tomatoes is not going to pay the bills. All sorts of bad financial things are going to happen to the IT guy and his family including and most likely losing his home as he tries to make a living picking vegetables. The out of work IT guy probably won't last more than two weeks working in the fields too. The same holds true probably for most Americans. Demanding physical work in outdoor, hot and humid conditions is beyond what most Americans are capable of tolerating, especially older Americans. We as a country (Democrats, Republicahs, Independents) have always closed one eye and relied on legal (and illegal) immigrants to do the jobs Americans simply won't do. That is the reality.

I’m not here to defend everything that Trump or the Republicans do, because a lot of it is stupid and mean. But to scream racism over something that would be considered common sense if anybody else did it is silly. Does the fact that Trump flashes his brown poop also make him racist? Trump is doing something that will keep my fellow tech workers from being impoverished and will increase my prospects long-term, and you’re saying he’s evil for doing this. And you expect me to believe that you, and people like you, give a shit about what happens to me or my children? Clearly you don’t. This is why Trump is in the White House.

And you have been sold a bunch of crap. You and your fellow republicans voted for a con man and a narcissist. If you don’t think him thinks of all his voters with anything other than derision is beyond me. I am the last group of people he is going to hurt. The republicans feed you all this crap, and enact policies that are against your net rest. Trump did this to gain points, plain and simple. He has no true beliefs. He is flailing and looking for something to help him.
And again, the solution to the problem you cite is to improve the economy. That requires controlling the virus. It will not improve until the pandemic is controlled. Plain and simple. And if he can Ed about it anyone but himself, that is what he would do. Blanket bans on anything is usually a poir policy. And isn’t it republicans who say if you are out of work you should take any available job. So what right do they have to those jobs you cite. I guarantee the businesses that support republicans do not think this is a good idea

If tech companies have to let their H1B visa workers go they aren't going to hire back Americans, they will offshore the work. You can get developers for 25k a year in eastern europe. That is even a lot cheaper than the immigrant contractors that come to the US to work. The middle management at my old company is really worried about this. If they lose their workers there is no way the company will pay twice as much to keep things going. They will set up shop in Lithuania and come out way ahead in salary costs. And the middle managers over here will just be out of work too.

What makes you think that companies forced to hire Americans by shutting down immigration is going to be a good thing for those American workers? They’re going to be treated like crap, too. A company that wants cheap labor and will import it if it can will still want cheap labor. I also suspect it will just ship the jobs overseas where it can still access cheap labor. Closing down immigration is not going to magically improve the job market or working conditions for Americans. They really aren’t related at all in the minds of companies who want cheap labor. ETA: just read the full thread and noticed that Bobosensei beat me to it.

So your solution is for that unemployed IT person to stay unemployed lfor years Because the company he worked for had to lay people off due to the Covid recession, and because Trump shouldn’t Be allowed to reduce the number of H1B visa‘s coming into this country when there are plenty of qualified Americans who can do those jobs. News flash - American companies already treat workers like crap.

I cannot picture the laid off IT programmer picking tomatoes or bell peppers at a farm two hours from his/her home. Or the industrial engineer eviscerating chickens at a poultry processing center. I just cannot. The ones I know in these fields won't do the manual assembly work that I do, let alone manual labor working in fields. I feel sorry for them but that's how some brains work. They don't have jobs and are whining about it. Again, what about republicans hypocrisy. They seem to be making a “my body, my choice” argument about masks. Where have I heard that before.Give me a break md. There are jackasses on both sides and I have yet to see Pelosi in a face mask. There are a lot of people in the 'no one is gonna tell me what to do' club and they are called LIBERALS .......... and both parties have them. Around here it's mostly the macho 40s-50s males. The ones that buy the racy sports cars when they hit their mid-life crises ...............

She is requiring them in committee meetings. Guess who is complaining about that requirement. Look at which states are not requiring a mask. They are overwhelming led by republicans. You try to act like you are reasonable, but you are not. Have fun in Arizona. Next month is going to be ugly, especially if you don’t put in more restrictions.
