My gym has reopened the pool. So far I have completely avoided the gym. I don't want to share equipment or work out in a room full of people. But I'm trying to assess the risk of going and swimming laps. The locker room might be the greatest risk, but I could even avoid that it I wanted and just go straight from home and back.
Any thoughts? FYI: an indoor pool

I'd go in a sparsely used indoor pool, and not use the locker room .

I’m swimming in lake most days but I won’t go back to my gym pool. I’ll really miss it this winter

I'd go in a sparsely used indoor pool, and not use the locker room . Sparsely used in the main concern. They are only allowing one person per lane and only 6 lanes. I don't want to be standing around waiting, although it should be easy to stay 6 feet apart. Especially if they open up the outside deck. I'm going to drop by next week and just see how busy they are.

You're not going to get it from the water, chlorine will kill anything. So, it's just the social distance thing you need to worry about. The Y started up summer swim team and I was all like "YAY!, something for Carrot again!", but they're limiting to the 7th grade on up.

If there are 6 people or less, you will be fine. I would avoid the locker room if you can. Bring an extra towel, drive home wer and use your own shower.

I finally ventured to the gym yesterday- well-ventilated and sparsely-populated as usual. Stayed out of the locker room and showered at home.

Our local Y requires signing up for swimming or classes. It limits the number. The people are socially distanced.
Can you swim outside?

Most public pools are 75% chlorine - the virus can't survive that.

If you skinnydip you could have pool to self. Seriously clorine kills about every thing, can not isolate for every, just choose were you interact

Outdoor 50m pool opened today. Had 3 in a lane. Pretty much stayed away from each other.
Locker room was empty when I was finished so i showered and left.

I went back to swimming when the pools here reopened in May. The social distancing enforcement was spotty -- in my county, one pool did it very well, with lots of visible cleaning, people entering lanes on opposite sides of the pool, face masks, and limited entry by sign up and reservation system, etc. A different pool, same county did a terrible job -- no control over people coming in and out of the facility, no visible cleaning that I saw and no real attempt at social distancing. Of the two pools I use in the next county north, one did reopen; practice is at 5 a.m. and the pool has 22 lanes, plus a second training pool, so social distancing not an issue. The other is located on a high school property, and it has not opened yet.

I just stopped by the gym to take a look. Not a single swimmer in the lap pool. 2 in the warm pool and none in the locker room. I think I'll trying swimming tomorrow.

My dad has been swimming three times a week for years, so COVID has really thrown off his routine.
He went to an outdoor pool yesterday - said it was a little cool but it is in the high 80s here in PA so he said the sun warmed him up fairly quickly.
Not sure when he will go back to the YMCA for indoor swim.

So I finally went and swam today. I wanted to sooner, but we were involved in some serious yard work. It felt great and I felt safe. There was only one other swimmer in the lanes and an empty lane between us. The warm pool got busier the longer I was there. From 6 to about 12 people. But still plenty far apart unless in family groups. And its a huge space with 20+ ft ceilings.
I only swam about 20 mins since it's been 6 months. Everything felt great except a twinge in my right upper arm. Probably a little rotator cuff impingement from awhile ago that I have to watch. I'll start some of my PT exercises again just to be careful. I'd like to get up to 30 mins or more and almost every day if I can.

The gyms in my area have opened up the pools, but the locker rooms are roped off. Do you guys have open locker rooms in your area?

I went to the pool this morning for the first time. In my town, the lap swim is by reservation only. The reservations are for an hour, then they close for half an hour to clean and then another set of reservations. There were 5 lanes in the pool, and it was 4 men and one woman (me). I did use the locker room, and I was the only person in it the whole time (that was weird!). They had most of the lockers closed with cable ties, but a few open lockers at intervals to keep people apart. Every other shower was roped off also. This was an indoor pool, but I have a reservation to try an outdoor pool on Friday.

I swam for the 2nd time today. Still only 1 or 2 people in the lap pool. But the other, warmer pool was much busier. Maybe 20 people, a lot of kids and a group of 4 women in the hot tub. I think it might be quieter on the weekends, but I only have 2 days to compare. The biggest issue was getting around people on the pool deck to get to the lap pool. I'm going to have to give up the shower that is next to the warm pool and just go in dry. And yes, our locker rooms and showers are open. I'm choosing not to use them, although they seem very empty.
