What kind of masks do you have and wear - handmade (describe it!), disposable paper (where did you get them), something else (describe it!) Where do you get your masks? Have you seen someone wearing a mask that made you smile? cringe? inflamed some jealousy/envy? Describe it! I've been collecting cloth masks since March. I like wearing the Pink with White polka dots or a White with blue Polka dots. I have a solid red one, a solid bright yellow one, too. I have a dark army green one (looks serious). And a solid dark grey one (for when I'm channeling my inner Kunoichi (female ninja)). All of those were hand made by a friend of a friend and are tightly woven cotton fabric. I bought some "t-shirt material" ones that give me a cute cat nose, smiling mouth and whiskers, a lion's nose and smile, a rabbit nose with buck teeth smile or a teddy bear nose and smile -- from Threadless. I accept and encourage my inner 5 year old. I like it when the guys sport a homemade "sports team logo" mask. They look so "cute" - I mean that in a really nice way. Best experience - I was wearing the buck tooth rabbit mask at the grocery - I came around an end cap and nearly bumped into a woman wearing a scary toothy alien "mouth" mask. In the middle of both of us apologizing and stepping back we started laughing at each other's mask. and complimented the other's mask choice I've also seen masks with rhinestones or designer logos on women wearing flashy/designer clothes - which I thougth was kind of cool (even if not my style). So, what kind of mask "fashion" are you all sporting and seeing??

I have two masks I got from headcovers.com back in April. I like them well enough
I have some disposable ones I got from BJs and Costco had some too when I was in there the other day.
I'm debating whether to buy more cloth ones or not and where from. The cloth ones I have aren't the pleated ones more the straight form one. With no nose metal they fog up my glasses which is kind of a pain for wearing longer term. While they have a design on them one's pink and one's blue so not really outfit coordinating.
My county currently requires masks in public spaces since our numbers are getting crazy. So another reason why I might buy more. Currently looking at either eshatki (they have a lot of pretty fabrics and some are reasonable prices) but the fabric isn't water repellent. The other place I'm looking at is wearmandala.com/ which is a place that started selling scrubs, has PM 2.5 filters and the masks are antimicrobial and fluid resistant. Both have a nose wire, pocket for filters, adjustable ears and are 100% cotton. The mandala ones are a few bucks more ($9.99 vs $4.95/6.95) and while they have color choices it's all plain fabric and one design where eshataki has pleated and shaped masks. I can get 6 at eshataki for about the same price as 3 from mandala - though the mandala ones come with 3 filters so that's a chunk of the cost.
Open for other options for cloth ones if you have it.

We have some cloth ones that we got from a tailor down the street. We wanted to give them any income we could. They appear to be using scraps, which is great, but the materials of the 4 we have purchased are different. The one I got is almost upholstery-ish. It is very hot. I had been wearing it when we went to the grocery store, but now that we have hit 110, and we are supposed to wear them in all public spaces, I have been struggling with it. The rest of the family got a variety of heavy poly-cotton, I think. All of them wash up nicely - I throw them in with my laundry.
I bought some lighter cloth ones that have paw prints on them. I am not sure they will last very long. I will not be putting those in the washer.
I grabbed a couple of disposable ones from work, to see if we liked them. They have the metal thing that goes on your nose. I will probably buy a few hundred of those, as I think that is what my son would prefer to wear when/if they return to school. I've also been liking it because of the less sweaty nature.

I have some masks from eshakti because I like their clothes, and they make pretty masks that are reasonably priced. I also have a couple of shaped masks in a lovely purple shade that will accommodate a filter, should I ever find myself in a situation where I feel a filter is necessary. I prefer the shaped masks to the pleated ones as they seem to fit my face better.
I have a few disposable masks I had left over from volunteering in the ER (they are not letting volunteers work in the ER at present) which I am keeping in the car in case I or someone else needs a mask and lacks one.
What I really want is a mask with a friendly-looking dog muzzle picture, but I have not yet found just the right one.

I got two from a local source, one with a purple deep space look and one a earth tone southwest pattern that worked okay with my solid color winter/early spring wardrobe. But my summer shirts are more colorful so I ordered three new ones that are black with a small color strip on each (blue, yellow, red). When I go back to work, I will need to get a couple more to go with more outfits. Definitely orange and green. Perhaps a solid black for a just in case. Clashing is not acceptable.

I have eight cloth masks, all purchased online. The first two I got from different crafters on Etsy. One has a pretty yellow and blue floral print, but the elastic goes around my head instead of just my ears, and it really pushes my nose down. I want to replace the elastic and make ear loops.
A couple seem to be polyester, and they are hotter than the cotton ones. One is a nebula print, and the other is a Hawaiian floral.
One is a nice black and white print, from a company that normally makes table linens.
All in all, four prints and four plain white ones. All of them get washed with general laundry.
I also bought a box of 50 disposables at Walgreens, but haven't used any yet.

I have a Celtic patterned fabric one ( given to me by local politician ) , a flower pattern one , 2 Stephen King bandana style ones ( bought at ka-tet19) , a Mickey fabric one ( made by friend) , and disposable paper ones . For the most part , I wear the disposable because I just feel like I can’t breathe well after a short time wearing the fabric ones . I only wear the fabric ones for very short time periods .

I've been making masks. So I just let everyone pick fabric (flowers, rainbows, cats, coffee beans, etc.). I vary the interfacing though. 1 layer for people who are older or wearing them for an 8 hour shift. 2 layers for younger or people who are just wearing them out and about. The 2 layers are better but harder to breath through.

I sew masks. My favorite material is a beautiful batik. I plan to make myself a new one from it. My current favorite is a seashell print. I’ve made three for DH. He likes the kind with ties. His favorite is a deep blue with stars and comets.
I sew three styles, pleated contoured and one called 3D. It’s kind of a hybrid. It’s my favorite I also like the bendable metal that fits across the nose.

My job had a drive by for us to pick up a bag of masks. They're solid blue, with our small logo on it. Because we are just that cool. I still wear mine with a coffee filter inside it, because I am just that cool. Lol. I imagine when we return to the office, I'll see lots of fancy masks. I'm still holding out hope that this is all temporary.

I got some cotton pleated ones from Etsy but they aren't well made and I don't like the elastic ear loops. I got other pleated ones from a local seamstress with ties that are much better. I have a summer floral, an Americana print, and a leopard print for me, and a couple of abstract prints and a official college logo for DH. I want to get some of the contour ones and need to shop for them soon. Most local vendors are requiring bulk purchases on the contour ones, and I'm not trusting Etsy vendors very much b/c the last one tried to screw me bigtime. I want some plain neutrals, and a couple of darker solids for winter.

I just use a bandana. A white one from Hog's Breath Saloon in Key West. I also don't really go out so I don't mind. I tie it bank robber style and tuck the bottom into my shirt. DH hasn't left the house in almost a friggin' year but if he ever does, his will be a bandana as well. My work ordered some clear ones but I still haven't been called back in so I don't have one yet. I don't pay enough attention to them to really notice. I've seen entirely too many Patriot ones of which I could give 2 shits. Maybe I'll look for a cat face. Then I can freak my cats out.

I have several masks. My favorite is the American flag one because it goes over my head and not around my ears. It can't be worn for things like getting my hair cut. I wore the cat one that goes over my ears for that.
I also wear a face shield.

Actually, they look really nice. Yes, I've been waiting for the "mass marketing" of masks as a fashion accessory to start. I am not a big SportsBall fan so I don't have a favorite team to support. I don't really have an Alma Mater so I can't sport a University/college colors. (I might go with the colors of Ravenclaw if I was forced to pick some "school colors") I'm hoping my employer provides masks with a logo... so I too can be "that cool". Do HS still do fund raisers by selling school logo stuff? (I helped sell coffee cups with a lid - before drinking coffee in the car was popular, we sold pins, shirts, bumper stickers and all sorts of stuff for "school spirit") I suspect maybe schools with have themed masks? I imagine we will be wearing masks thru next spring (and possibly beyond). I also expect there to be a hoopla about some kid wearing an inappropriate mask to school... Will masks become the new "tie" - for men and women (I wore a "bow tie" thing with my business suit/skirt in the 80's)

Thanks!!

Normally in summer, we have dress down Fridays, and people have to be reminded it's a place of business.

I found the thick metal ties like the ones you find on coffee bags work the best. And you get used to where the mask needs to sit so your glasses don't fog. I wear glasses. It took a few times to get it right but my glasses rarely fog now. My HD, who rarely goes anywhere that needs a mask, still needs to practice with his.

The bottom of my glasses rests just below the top of the mask, sort of adding to the compression provided by the nose wire. It seems to work well with my glasses and my face. 2) I haven't worn the mask in conditions of high heat or humidity, so I can't say how it would perform under those conditions. They make masks out of several different types of fabrics, so probably something that is all cotton with fewer layers might be more comfortable in hot, humid conditions.

I was planning to stick with cotton for the reasons you state, though the *really* pretty ones they make of course aren't cotton. They're also like $15+ so I'm ok with saving money too!

For comfort, I find the N95 masks with the exhaust vent are nice. Especially if you need to be masked for several hours at a time, or if you are doing something strenuous where you are breathing harder than normal.

I just saw some people said the nose wire didn't really work and some that didn't. Figured I'd ask someone that I'm pretty sure is real that has the masks. BTW - from all I've read masks with a vent do not protect others from you. ie your droplets could still get out the vent. Not sure if that applies to the N95 with a vent but I'm guessing it might since the medical field does not use those version of the masks. Personally, if I see someone wearing a mask with a vent I treat them the same as if they weren't wearing it at all when it comes to keeping my distance.

Yeah, I’m not sure about how the valves on N95 masks I’ve used work. I bought them pre-covid19 to use while sanding drywall, so I wasn’t concerned whether or not vapor from my breath was released to the environment. Even so, a vented N95 mask is better than no mask, and it may be nearly as effective as a mask that billows and allows your breath to escape around the edges of the mask.

I was lucky enough that a neighbor, one I didn't even know, was making masks for people when all this started. She gave me two. It has an insert, t-shirt ties, and pleats. It is fine. I'd like one that loops over the ears just so I can get my hair cut, but I am not going to order from Etsy. I am sure you have to pay shipping as well. I haven't seen them for sell elsewhere, but I don't really shop these days. I tried making one . . . major Pinterest fail. I didn't understand the directions. I still have enough to make another one if I need to now that I understand what they are supposed to look like. I actually keep this one in the car in case I need one and didn't bring one with me. It works, but it isn't that pretty. Having only 2 and keeping them washed is a major pain. Picture only having 2 pairs of underwear. They said in the beginning that they should be made out of cotton. Have they changed that?

Um, I think you need to rethink the N95 with an exhaust vent.... you aren't breathing in other people's air - but everyone else is breathing in YOUR air. I thought the idea of masks was to limit the "cloud" of exhaled air. If I'm not wearing an N95 mask and I'm in vicinity - I get to breathe in your exhaust/exhaled air. No thank you, Please.

I imagine we will be wearing masks thru next spring (and possibly beyond). I also expect there to be a hoopla about some kid wearing an inappropriate mask to school... Will masks become the new "tie" - for men and women (I wore a "bow tie" thing with my business suit/skirt in the 80's) YES to all of the above! This will be the new "thing" from school fundraisers to inappropriate masks for school. And definitely the new "tie" thing.

Susanna If you’ll PM me your address I’ll make you a couple that loop over the ears
