I hope the democrats pull the same stunt the Republicans did with Merrick if another spot comes up on the bench. Notice the ones they put in place were the dissenters. They are just waiting for RBG to kick the bucket.

I wonder if this ruling will have any effect on this proposed trump policy. From last year: New Rule May Allow Some Federal Contractors to Not Hire LGBT WorkersThe Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) announced a proposed rule Aug. 14 that would grant religious organizations under contract with the federal government the right to make employment decisions consistent with their religious beliefs. Advocates for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals criticized the proposal as an attempt to permit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Proposed Rule Seeks to Protect Religious Institutions Officials from the Department of Labor (DOL) said religious institutions such as Christian colleges had not been seeking government contracts out of fear that they would violate federal requirements. "When we talked to stakeholders, we were informed that many religious organizations were not participating in the procurement process because of concerns that OFCCP would not fairly or correctly enforce the law related to the religious employer exemption," a DOL official said. But American Civil Liberties Union Senior Legislative Counsel Ian Thompson said, "Once again, the Trump administration is shamefully working to license taxpayer-funded discrimination in the name of religion. … We will work to stop this rule that seeks to undermine our civil rights protections and encourages discrimination in the workplace." New Rule May Allow Some Federal Contractors to Not Hire LGBT Workers

Especially for rural businesses where there's not so much of an employee pool. And not much competition between employers for employees.

Christian colleges who want to discriminate based on religion should not get government contracts. It's called separation of church and state. You want to operate on church doctrine then you better hope you got enough donors to keep you afloat. You want government money then you run as a secular college.
Ain't nobody interfering with your right to pray the gay away or whatever you want to do in your own home/church. So stuff it with your cries of "religious intolerance".
Cannot wait for the day when Muslim or Jewish institution/business refuses to serve evangelical Christians in the name of "religious freedom". The Satanists have managed to be a decent thorn in the side of evangelicals, I'd like to see other religions step up and call out their shit.

So what I don't get is that Trump came from the NYC social scene, which includes artists, theater people, designers, etc. He never mentioned a problem with them until he needed to pander to the evangelicals. Don't they see they are being played?

Don't they see they are being played? Well the claim is Trump repented and found Jesus. In reality I think they really do not give two shits what Trump actually believes so long as he does what they say. Apparently they choose to ignore the part of the Bible that warns against worshiping false idols.

There were still 3 in that 6-3 decision. Should be 0. Alito and Thomas were like, "ew, gays, ick." Kavanaugh said this is a matter to be addressed by congress, so it was more like 6-2-1.

Part of finding jesus is actually living like a Christian, you know like turning the other cheek, treating others as you wish to be treated, and other platitudes. Do not see much of that happening. They are incredibly critical of others behavior, but jot him. So, do you think if I misbehave, but claim to be a Christian, I get a pass too?

I just logged into my employee account and changed some of the voluntary personal information.
I'm high as a kite. I'd hadn't even been following this case because I was so certain that it would end badly and just could not take any more bad news.

Does this change how employers handle benefits? What happens when a gay employee wants to add their "spouse" to their employers insurance? Must all non binary humans be forced into celibacy and singleton lives? That's gonna make some employers squirm.
And how was you can't fire some because you don't like who they might have sex with not obvious? <-- assuming everyone involved is a consenting adult. If you can't fire a single woman for getting pregnant (a Big Sin) or fire someone for getting a divorce (sometimes it's a sin) or you can't fire someone for marrying someone with a different skin tone or a different religion... why would you think you could fire someone because you might not approve of who they may or may not have sex with? Am I missing something?

New York Times article so behind a paywall. Am copying the entire article and PMing myself with it. If anyone wants the full article via PM let me know. Gorsuch Leads Way on Landmark L.G.B.T. Rights DecisionWASHINGTON — Justice Neil M. Gorsuch is a profoundly conservative jurist and one of two appointments President Trump has made to the Supreme Court that Republicans expected would fundamentally shape it to their liking for a generation. But on Monday, Justice Gorsuch, 52, led the way on one of the most sweeping gay rights rulings in the court’s history, protecting gay and transgender people from workplace discrimination and confounding those who thought he would be a reliable bulwark against such positions. Justice Gorsuch took the place of Justice Antonin Scalia, who died in February 2016 but whose seat was kept open by Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader, until President Barack Obama had left the White House. Mr. Trump then made Justice Gorsuch his first appointment to the court less than two weeks after his inauguration. Justice Scalia left a legacy as one of the court’s most fiercely conservative members, and while more courteous and mild mannered than his predecessor, Justice Gorsuch has largely echoed his legal philosophy from the bench. Until now. Justice Gorsuch led a 6-to-3 majority in declaring that gay and transgender workers are protected by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, religion, national origin and sex. His ruling was joined not by his usual conservative allies, but by the court’s four liberals and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. “In Title VII, Congress adopted broad language making it illegal for an employer to rely on an employee’s sex when deciding to fire that employee,” Justice Gorsuch wrote for the majority. “We do not hesitate to recognize today a necessary consequence of that legislative choice: An employer who fires an individual merely for being gay or transgender defies the law.” Complete article here: Gorsuch Leads Way on Landmark L.G.B.T. Rights Decision
