I may find out just how well social distancing works. One of my employees just called and here is the situation... On june 6th an irresponsible person goes to a boat party where apparently there was a COVID positive person. On june 13th my employee and her husband (who has stated repeatedly to me that they have gone nowhere and seen no one outside of their household) have irresponsible boat dude and his girlfriend over for a pool party/cookout, along with another one of my employees and her husband. Today, june 16th, irresponsible boat dude test positive for COVID so now both of my employees were possibly exposed this past Saturday. I was in the office with one of these employees all day today. Luckily, we were the only 2 people there. We both had hot items that we needed to be in the office to complete. We never came in close contact. We did eat lunch together but were at least 6-8 feet apart. Geez...thank you irresponsible people. So now both employees are getting tested tomorrow. I'm waiting it out. I don't think I have been exposed but don't want to risk anyone's health so here i sit for the next 14 days playing the waiting game. ETA: if boat dude is sick today then my guess is he was definitely carrying the virus on Saturday. I'm guessing at least one of my employees is going to test positive I'd be concerned that they test negative tomorrow, but may be positive after 5-10 more days. Yes, my guess is they are going to have to get tested again if they come back negative tomorrow.

FREAK OUT do da do da do. I have 2 granddaughters that work in a nursing home and a daughter who is an EMT. They live 3 hours away. Their county was one of 17 that had zero cornonavirus. Slowly these rural counties started to have one. DD said she was exposed with a transfer and was to be tested. The nursing home had tests done and said there were 20. My DS had been to their town to help put up a fence. Unknown to him after the positives in the nursing home. He told everyone he might be exposed. The next weekend, everyone was tested. Out of 344 tests, only one came back positive. A person who lived outside the county. We didn't know. The next day was Father's Day. We went to my DS's for a meal where he said something. His grandson is just 2.5 mos. old. He distanced from us. How relieved we were to find out the others tests were false positives. Our family members were clear. Oooommmm peace has returned. ?? Father's Day? We celebrate Father's Day on on June 21st. Is it earlier in the USA? Memorial Day. I got mixed up today also. I didn't read the article on why I don't know what day it is.

My MIL was experiencing aggression, they upped her dosage of meds again and it calmed her down. Maybe if you can get your doc to that will help your mom. If she is getting that bad you dad may need to place her. I know not visiting is bad, but at 81 can he continue to keep her safe? Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and do it..
I'm sorry you are having that issue.

Don't worry about it. I often stop strangers on the street to ask what day it is. I'd be concerned that they test negative tomorrow, but may be positive after 5-10 more days. Yes, my guess is they are going to have to get tested again if they come back negative tomorrow. People are typically infectious for 2-3 days prior to showing symptoms, and it takes at least two days for the virus to establish itself after exposure. It’s possible but not super likely that your employee was infectious...also it sounds like their exposure was outdoors, which may have helped. I think you’re still stuck quarantining and fuming though since there are always outliers. I’m sorry your employees have a crappy friend and lied to you about seeing him.

I woke up this AM from what was undoubtedly a COVID-based nightmare. I was working on the Annual Statement for my company (which I left in 1995) and the portion I always did involved multiple runs to allocate some numbers in a reasonable way, which involved a lot of tweaking, re-running, adjusting... all under statutory deadlines. I woke as I was screaming in anguish (in the dream) because I'd gone to the parking garage and found that I was being assessed a $70 fine because my car had been parked on the edge of a Fire Zone. The rest of my life is really good right now. It had to be COVID-19. Things in my area are stable (I'm tracking the numbers) but there are certainly areas loaded with bars and restaurants and social animals wanting to get back to them. Then there are places like Party Cove in the Ozarks, a popular vacation spot for locals. And then, since I worry well ahead of time, I wonder about when colder weather hits. I've been able to avoid the gym because I can do long bike rides, and gathering outdoors with appropriate social distancing seems somewhat safe. Some friends from church and I did this a couple of weeks ago- bring your own chair, bring your own beverages, no sharing of anything, stay 6 feet apart. Some restaurants are also allowing dine-in on outdoor terraces. When it gets cold out and these options are no longer available, I wonder how many people will move indoors and what the results will be.

I'm tired of my small-town cousins who live in a 95% white town thinking that racism is being overblown and that all cops are awesome because the three in their town have never hurt or killed anyone. I'm tired of the same people who bitch that nobody is wearing a mask are the same ones that are up in arms because racist images and idols are being removed. These are the same people who preach, literally, that you don't need to have a statue of jesus to pray to him. Well, Karen, you don't need a statue of some treasonous general to remember their atrocities.
Three weeks and two days to go.

A few years back, I was getting my exercise by walking at the local indoor mall, because Winter here is just too cold to walk outdoors for very long. I ended up getting double pneumonia, and the doctor told me I probably got it from the "mall air". Can you even imagine how quickly COVID could spread in a large shopping mall? I don't know how I'll get my exercise this Winter, as I'm avoiding the health clubs. (By the way, the type of pneumonia I had is also called "walking pneumonia".)

Around here “walking pneumonia” is called that because you are sick but not so sick that you can’t function, hence you walk around hacking up a lung. 😆

Besides taking some strong meds, it took weeks before I got my energy back. I can't remember a time when I slept so much. It wasn't coughing that brought me into the doctor's office. It was that I just plain felt like carp. Even the doctor was a bit surprised by my x-rays, because I really wasn't coughing much at all.

Get ready for the rant...
So in the last few hours I have found out that my "very cautious" employee that was SO concerned that she wasn't sure she was ready to come back to the office has engaged in the following:
*2 pool parties at her house *rented a pontoon boat with 4 other couples *had her hair cut and highlighted *got a mani/pedi *has gone to Costco once a week for the last 3 months *purchased a new car *went to a restaurant with other couples twice
On a different note, several minorities have been found hanging in the Houston area and they have been ruled as suicide. I'm not into conspiracy theories but something is not right here...
I am done with the world at this point...i have always been an optimistic person and I know we will get past all this. I do have hope for the future but I just can't deal right now...

I can understand the Costco trips. And maybe the hair if it was done recently once things started reopening (well, depends on the state).
But everything else - ya, she is definitely not super cautious.

I'm beginning to realize that this is almost like relocating to a place that's not a reasonable driving distance from your old place. Everything you did before has to be re-thought. There are some things you can't do at all. There are some things you can do but with different businesses and service providers (dentists, doctors, hair stylists). You need to find what works and what doesn't and you have failures and have to do something else. It all takes emotional energy. My dentist is AWOL. I had a regular checkup scheduled for April 9 and that got cancelled. Now the number is no longer in service. I looked him up on the Internet and found another dentist with the same address- so maybe he sold the practice? Except that the number for the second dentist is not in service, either. I sent an e-mail to my dentist's wife- we all used to attend the same church. No reply yet. I REALLY like this guy- he's a good problem-solver and I trust him. He also works very well with my oral surgeon. I've got 5 implants, a bridge and probably a crown or two, I forget. I really need a good dentist and I'm paranoid of going to one who recommends 3 crown replacements, a root canal and a deep cleaning on the first visit. Rich people's problems, I know.

I agree that something is not right, and I personally feel that the "not right" is the lack of adequate mental health resources coupled with the stigma of mental health issues, especially in minority communities. Houston is intensely multi-cultural, and many of our local residents come from cultures highly critical of issues like depression, gender identity, etc. Add unemployment, cramped living quarters and a few more things going along with Covid-19, and you have a terrible recipe for suicide. This is NOT to say that lynching's can't and don't occur in many areas, including ours.

I have a lot of dental work. I find a dentist that isn't trying to fleece me and stick with them. I drive 45 minutes one way to keep going to the dentist I found when I moved back to Georgia. I don't know what I'll do when I have to find someone else.

thanks for the reminder that I got a voicemail from my hygienist the other day and I hadn't called back. I had a cleaning scheduled for 4/2 that obviously didn't happen. the next available appointment isn't until September now. wow!

Company stated work from home until mid-Sept and likely rest of 2020. I knew it was coming, but it's still a mental blow to get official word.

I had an end of March appointment for the dentist. They reopened a month ago. I got a call informing me the rescheduled date was 9/28. I figured it would be ugly. They don't work on Friday. The schedule is always packed and you get pushed back several months if you need to reschedule.
I had a video visit with my pulmonary specialist yesterday for a regular check in. He said he was reasonably confident in low spread outdoors with proper spacing. He did not recommend indoor stuff and absolutely not in regards to the gym. He said the virus is still out there and not going away even as all of this stuff re-opens. He cited a parade in 1918 in Philadelphia to celebrate the return of soldiers home from WW1 as a super spreader and an example of pushing too fast, too soon.
While I know it's still out there and it's deadly, I felt better after my appointment. The conversation reassured me that I was not crazy and that I need to keep on as I have been.
ETA: we have been told through at least August. It will take that long to procure cleaning supplies, masks and hand sanitizer for our 81 offices. I saw the FAQs for my building. It is run by a different agency than the one I work for. I have zero desire to return to work in the office under those conditions.

DH's company is thinking of making work from home permenant. He said it's probably just a rumor but I guess they are really pleased with how well this is working and it probably saves them money in overhead costs not having people in the office every day.
He isn't sure how he feels about it. He's going a little crazy being cooped up in the house all day with just the kids.

Our telework policy is going to be greatly expanded. They sent out a survey. There is pressure coming from the very top that we have too many offices. I never thought I would like full time but it hasn't been that bad. People have been forced to adapt to this way of doing things and it's working out. We've personally saved a ton of money and time by not commuting. DH has actually finished a bunch of projects without the drain of a commute.

So it just keeps getting better...Of course, this is all what my employee is telling me so no first hand knowledge here...employee asked irresponsible boat dude if he has been able to trace his contacts over the last several days prior to testing positive and said "where all have you been the last 10-14 days." His response "where haven't I been."
On the work from home issue...I will have a relaxed policy from now on (kind of did before this). I like having an office to go to and seeing people but also like the freedom of flexibility. I guess that is more what I am looking for...just flexibility...I don't want to work from home all the time. I like the flexibility of working some from home and some at the office.

I would extend this to say, in non-pandemic times, I also enjoy the flexibility of working at a coffee shop or the library as well. It's how I've always made everything work, in terms of working and volunteering in the kids school. I actually miss working at a coffee shop way more than I thought I would.

My accountant used to work from a coffee shop most mornings. Traffic here is bad (or was bad) so he would stop off at Starbucks and work for a couple of hours before heading into the office. I think a lot of people are missing being able to work from a coffee shop or other venue. I used to like to work some from Panera Bread.

I guess that is more what I am looking for...just flexibility...I don't want to work from all the time.
When we met, you were working at a coffee shop.

my first day under my employer's WFH directive, I waited out my home inspection from the village coffee shop. just watched the cameras to see when the driveway was clear so I could go home. I think that once things are safe to open up again and people are going and working from places like that, then we won't feel so cooped up. like you said, flexibility and options.

I was already a hermit homebody before the pandemic hit so my life hasn't changed all that much I just have a better excuse for being that way. But yes I am so mentally tired of what is going on in this country.
