As a white woman of a certain age I have to admit I am surprised by how many white women pull this stuff. I'm not surprised at being bossy and miserable, but playing the superior race card so much really shocks me.

I'm not surprised at being bossy and miserable, but playing the superior race card so much really shocks me. Reading White Fragility and a couple other books on the topic the authors pointed out that playing the "superior race" card is the only card some people have and it prevents them from examining the issues that come with being a part of a disinfranchised group in other areas of their lives. They can convince themselves that they too have a seat at the table and the powers that be toss just enough crumbs to keep up the charade and maintain the status quo. They will continue to act and vote in ways that are against their own best interests so long as the illusion that they are at least better than "those" people is maintained. Tribalism would be fascinating if it wasn't so dangerous from a societal standpoint.

I've recognised this phenomenon from a young age. I'm not sure how I learned about it. But I think one of the reasons we are having so much unrest these days is that the powers that be don't know they need to sprinkle the crumbs about and it is harder for people to pretend they have a seat at the table. It's kind of a good thing as it forces change.

I think they are still trying to sprinkle hence Trump's continued attempts to stoke xenophobia and promises to protect confederate statues. What they aren't aware of is that there are enough of us now who have decided we're sick of crumbs, we're sick of others not even getting so much as a crumb and we're coming for the whole dang pie. And we out number them, especially the younger generations who are coming of age to vote.
While I am worried, tired and stress I still have hope that those younger than me will change the world and do better.

Does the woman urinate on the floors of her home when she doesn't get her way too?
Charge her to the max. Shoplifted goods found in her possession too. A little jail time too.

It is not a hard concept to understand that when you have nothing left to lose, you might be willing to do some radical stuff. That is why BLM is getting aggressive. What are you going to do - arrest them and jail them, you already have, shoot them, you already have, keep them down economically, you already have. Why not come after those in power? They already suffered the punishment. The GOP is counting on white people having some stuff, a bunch of debt, and a place to live is enough to keep them placated. The election of Trump might have been a signal that it is not. They were trying for change. They got behind the wrong guy, but they tried.
